@@DanDiMaggio A rig that fits with you and with your gear and with less flex especially with LC pedals, irritation causes distraction and you are not focused. Try to store second hand and not invest a lot right away, take time to get used to your gear. Try to avoid all distractions and practice with a car that fits you, right on track with brute force will work against you, take the time to learn techniques right instead of unlearning bad ones. As a child you took small steps to learn to walk, do the same with racing, don't want to ride with the top right in the beginning. Racing with the AI? Start at the back of the field and cruise nicely through the field without damage or brutal actions, become consistent and build up racecraft, above all be patient. A saying “If it's in you you don't need the most expensive and best gear.”

@DanDiMaggio every sim is a game, and every racing game is some sort of sim....someone's interpretation using 1s and 0s. Keep that in mind , you'll have fun....

I am 60 now and got into sim racing a few years ago and the first years offline, with a T300 and fanatec CSL elite pedals and all that with a homemade cockpit which became more and more fragile. I just didn't build racecraft or couldn't do laps in a row the same times or practice trailbraking properly. Last year I bought a Moza R5 and this year built a solid cockpit out of wood without hardly any flex, I finally started riding consistent times without a less more crashes or off track accidents. I bought a larger diameter wheel and am only now making progress in improving times, better racecraft and really gained a huge amount of fun with sim racing, because now I am no longer distracted by a wobbling and noisy cockpit and other distractions, pure concentration and fun. Race with the simulator game you like and feels natural for you, I rather choose AMS2 and 1 above ACC or AC because it feels natural and realistic to me what is most important for me because I want to have fun with racing.

Great advice. Been Sim Racing since 99, and iRacing 16+ yrs. I've always been in the camp as you said put the FOV where you like it. I run triples and I have different FOVs, seat heights, horizons etc for almost every car. I think it's easy to forget to have fun too. I was banned from the forums about 4 months ago and honestly it has made iRacing more enjoyable to not be in their having popularity contests constantly. I get as much info from Twitter, Reddit, FB, IG, content creators such as yourself and Sim Sites as I did in the forum. I digress. Cheers. Matthew Wise

I started in 2016 with a new T500 and a GT Omega Pro cockpit. I quickly upgraded to an all Fanatec Club Sport set up. I was really happy with that. Then I got VR when PC2 came out and that set me on a ridiculous path of chasing immersion. Now in 2024 I have a ridiculously high end immersive setup with SimUCube 2 Pro, HPP JBV pedals, Pro Sim H pattern, NLR V3 motion platform, 4 Buttkickers, multiple button boxes and the list goes on. I haven’t used it in over a year. The year before I probably only used it half a dozen times. Yes some of that is burnout from covid, some of it’s being unhappy with a lack of content I like from first party devs. Most of all it’s because how complex my setup became. All the software that constantly needed launching and tuning. Things not feeling good because I didn’t spend two hours tuning the SimUCube, V3 motion platform and 4 Buttkickers for every car and track combo. Stupid VR headset needing all kinds of extra software and tuning to perform decently even with the best PC hardware money could buy. It’s just a headache. Then throw in trying to keep up with AC and all of its mods and new versions. Trying to figure out mods for AMS2. If I was one of those sim racers who only plays one title, one car and a set of tracks it wouldn’t be as bad I suppose. However I like a bunch of different cars, lots of tracks and unfortunately it’s spread across multiple games. The whole thing is ridiculous really.

this is precisely what I'm talking about. While I definitely haven't gone as deep as you, I have gone deep enough on several occasions that racing just became annoying. I've been pretty happy and content racing with simple setups for a while now! I hope you get the racing bug back soon! Maybe downgrading a bit might help!

I still play with an ancient G25 on a desk 😂 Imo the best way to spend your money; 1) VR 2) upgrading your PC

I have few friends who change something in their rigs every month spending thousands yearly, they literally do more engineering work than driving at this point I would also say - test all platforms urself to find which is the most fun one to u even if it will cost some $ at first, because most popular doesn't mean the best in simracing we are in vicious circle since market is very niche (more people like free roams than racing and that's fact looking at popularity of AC mods but also things like ETS which is more popular than any simracing title ever been, maybe even more popular than all titles combined at this point lmao) so people jumping into most popular brands like iR or if they don't want to spend as much ACC or soon probably ACE instead which makes games that are better at this point imo at least "feeling" wise like Raceroom, LMU or AMS2 suffer a bit - so don't be a sheep
