Here's the next episode of Three-For-All with 3 John Norum Licks From 1994-2013.
I've had a lot of requests to feature John over the last several months and I've finally found time to put this one together. I've also noticed John popping up a lot in clip and bootleg videos all over the Internet, so I also wanted to share a few short clips featuring a few random places you can catch John strutting his stuff candidly online.
Aside from the edited clips featuring John in various places and situations with a guitar in hand, this lesson features a number of cool ideas that came from a backstage video featuring John warming up from 2004 along with a live bootleg of a guitar solo he performed in Milan, Italy in 2011.
The licks and ideas shared here include a number of biting blues-rock phrases that bring players such as Gary Moore and Michael Schenker to mind, but he's also channeling players such as Eddie Van Halen and George Lynch with these ideas as well, so there should be something for just about everyone in this lesson.
Give this episode a view, leave some comments and feedback, and please subscribe to Late Night Lessons - THANK YOU!

Strange to think that such a guitar giant could come from my tiny hometown up in frosty Northern Norway, but I'm glad he made it big. John's blend of melodic hard rock and heavy blues, akin to Schenker and Moore, is just the ultimate rock guitar sound in my ears. Europe sure got lucky to have not just him, but later Kee Marcello. Too bad Kee didn't rejoin the band, thus giving them two lead guitarists. Now THAT would have been amazing.

Jon ( is this his original first name?) is a top class act for sure, I first hear him when he played The Final Countdown solo, but to me his finest hour came when he played on Don Dokken's album. Beautiful licks and tone akin to the Blackmore, Moore and Schenker tradition.

@@fernandes5986 I think on that album John went more shreddy than soulful tbh. But the word soulful goes along with John, he was more soulful on his solo albums and during his Europe era imo. My favorite guitarist along with Jason Becker ,Gary Moore and Richie Sambora.

That Les Paul through that amp sounds fab and I can't get over how superbly you nail Norum's tone and licks. I thought it was Norum. I want that tone. One of the most authentic Les Paul tones I've heard. That A chord sounds lush. Subscribed.

I know I'm late but I just wanted to say that I was at the Gods Of Metal festival in 2011 and Mr.Big played just before Europe, that's why Paul Gilbert was there checking out Norum. I also remember the drummer Ian Haugland checking out Epica from the very same spot. LOL Great video, by the way! Norum was the reason I started playing the guitar back in the 80's.

Great video, I love John Norum, and he has a super duper solo record that came out many years ago called Total Control. It's also fun to see him jam with Michael Schenker through a Roland Micro Cube. I have one of those and they're terrific practice amps. Keep on rock'in and roll'in.

Great video! Norum playing Eruption and jamming Lights Out with Schenker is just priceless!! At 4:30 yes that is Paul Gilbert imho, a guy next to him can be seen briefly, he's looking like a dwarf but Paul is like 6 ft 5" tall, see the difference? Another thing: what's that symbol you used at the beginning of the video, the circle with the text that this is recorded a half step down? I have seen something like that before but I never knew what it's from or it's meaning. Keep em coming!

Excellent video. Thank you for showcasing and bringing awareness to John NORUM. Having discovered EUROPE via 'The Final Countdown' videoclip in early 1987, John NORUM became of one of my favourite guitarists and musicians. His melodic guitar solos on 'The Final Countdown' spoke to me. Love John NORUM's solo material as well and EUROPE's studio albums post 2003. John NORUM; and Kee MARCELLO are amazing musicians; and EUROPE are as talented as JOURNEY and TOTO.

Caught him performing with Don Dokken in '91, I think it was, at a small venue, Baity's Backstreet, Winston Salem, NC and the Lynch Mob performed at the same club the following weekend. (A good couple of weeks as I recall.) Norum was married to the late Michelle Meldrum of Phantom Blue (Shrapnel Records & Geffen) and her solo band, Meldrum. Norum played solo on the 'Better Off Dead' track of Phantom Blue's 2nd album, 'Built To Perform.' Good song, good album; the gals also had Marty Friedman on one track and as well as do a good cover of Thin Lizzy's 'Bad Reputation.' If you've never checked out Michelle's work, if nothing else I'd recommend the 2nd Phantom Blue & the Meldrum albums. John Norum played on some of the Meldrum tracks if I'm not mistaken. To be honest I lost touch with Europe after Norum departed and never reconnected after his return to the band upon their reunion. And was surprised to see how many albums they've made since then. Guess I need to check some of their post reunion work, now.🤔
