I've often told ppl, especially ladies, don't hold your keys so that the key is poking out between your knuckles and the top is in the palm of your hand. One solid punch and your hand is likely out of commission. Hold it like a Kobo so the key is showing out the bottom of your fist and strick with hammer fists to the same spots you mentioned, including the back of the hand. Great video. Thanks.

Thanks Soke! I love the carry-ability of the koppo. It is with you, mostly if not totally invisible, and powerful. I could carry this in my hand as I walk my dog and no one would notice.

Great techniques, I will have to look into your online instruction. Where can one buy online a kubotan?

@SokeAnshu Happy New Year. Again, really great content. The eda koppo stick way back originally (back in the 1500's) did not have any string in the middle. It was held at times between the pinky finger and thumb in regards to hand, wrist and arm locks. They were also longer as well. The modern versions of wood and metal (like you are showing) are made of metal and wood have the rope in the middle for securing the fingers. I also like to stress the point that I love you showing your students the hand, wrist and arm locks using the eda koppo stick, this is one thing the practice a lot as it is a great defensive techniques against people who are undisciplined BJJ/MMA fighters that love to grapple and ground fight.

It’s called a kuboton after attack Kubota who made the key chain version popular. It’s real name is Ton-bo hence kuboton

Tak Kubota, not attack…lol

Tonbo is a dragonfly in Japanese.

Believe it or not you can do all of that with a magic marker including using it for grappling. It’s a matter of knowing how to palm an object. Transferable skill. Which is what I love about older martial arts systems.
