Judo clearly is about the ability of your opponent to control his own bodyweight versus your Judo techniques to wrest that control from him (while he uses the same to keep control or to wrest it from you) and merge it firmly into your own bodyweight for a brief second or two. If you can win this battle and merge your bodyweights, the throw or fall itself is just a foregone conclusion. Hence the Senseis´ emphasis on first getting control of the opponents bodyweight, then merging it with your own followed immediately by the foregone conclusion: the throw itself. It is very nice to see. I have appreciated it tremendously. And no, I have never done Judo before.

The reason the white belt was going backwards after the throw was because his feet were in a "V" (toes out), in Seoi Nage the feet should be parallel or toes pointed in - this keep the throwers balance forward. I wish the camera had shown more foot work, but the Sensi's feet being parallel (at 7:58 and 10:20) is critical to a successful throw. We also train our kids to "read the watch" (raising the arm, looking at the back of the hand) with the right arm to make space for the throw (like demonstrated at 9:49). Good video.

this entry style was extremely helpful, I am having the same struggle with my forward entry as the green belt where I feel like I don't have space to turn my hips

Good to see Russell doing ippon seoi nage. He is getting good at it. (I remember working with him in Japan on it until his rotation got smooth)I disagree with Nakano sensei. You should never get too deep when doing a front throw.

My biggest challenge with this throw is my Height. My trainer always tells me to go down while stepping in but I always feel like that takes away a bit of my balance while turning

How long does it usually take to get a yellow belt in Judo or the second belt? I'm guessing yellow is the second one.
