It's truly awesome to see you branching out with other pantheons, especially Hindu and Egyptian. Some more info on Hathor: the more "proper" pronunciation of her name is something like Heret. The name we know more commonly was a Greek pronunciation and I think we all know who to thank for that...Alexander. She has been known as the wife of a few different fellas of the Egyptian pantheon depending on your source of worshippers or dynasty. Among them is the great Horus, or Heru, and their children are also big deals in ancient Egyptian worship. Love learning about this pantheon and can't wait to hear more!

So I was so shooked that you covered parvati today! especially coming from my most favourite youtuber, I'm still in shock. One correction: Kamadu was not sent by Parvati to wake Shiva up from the meditation. It was Indra, king of the gods. The reason for this was a prophecy that Shiva and Paravatis child would one day defeat a great demon terrorizing the world whom the gods especially Indra feared, meaning they absolutely needed this union to work. Parvati was attempting to handle the challenges herself, but was interfered by the God's. Shiva in rage that someone disturbed him opened his third eye and burnt Kamadu to ashes. For anyone curious about Shivas sseclusion, Parvati was actually the reincarnation of Shivas first wife Sathi, who had burnt herself, after her father who was against their marraige heavily insulted her and her husband (this is an entirely different story with its own causes that lead of up to it). Shiva was grief stricken and absolutely enraged about this. His seclusion was him going into meditation to control his anger.

Also some other authors compare Łada to Leda, mother or Kastor and Pollux, who are usually associated with Slavic Lel and Polel, therefore making Łada their mother

What you said about Lada possibly being a "phantom goddess" reminded me of an excerpt from a historical novel wherein an elderly priest sermonized against the immoral "laced dress." A young queen and her ladies were at once curious to know what such a horrific garment could be and asked the priest if he had a picture of same so that they could show their friends and be sure to avoid wearing it! You can guess what happened. A young gentleman who was talented at drawing copied the illustration (except for the face -- it had a devil's head), and soon all the ladies of the court, including the queen, were wearing that shocking style! The silly old priest should have kept his mouth shut and minded his own business!

What I find most interesting is when Ra turned the river into blood coloured alcohol it reminds me of the 10 plagues of egypt, I’d love to hear what you have to say about that event, whether it happened or if there’s any other recountings of it apart from in the bible, or generally see the Egyptian side of certain accounts in the bible and how they viewed them if they did happen
@hannajung7512 Жыл бұрын
I am pretty certain it did not happen in a real sense. But there are certain natural events that can cause body of water to turn red. These could have inspired these stories to some degree. But we should never forget that people back then were storytellers just like we are today, and only because we have several stories about unicorns, elves, orcs, dragons, zombies etc. doesn't mean anyone ever met one of those. And that ancient egyptian myths might have inspired storytellers of the Isrealite tribes is not only likely but to be expected, since they spent quite some time either living in egypt, or trading with egypt.

In Finland, the god of love is Lempo (also known as Lempi, Lemmetär and Lemmätär), in the Christian era it was compared to a demon or a devil who possessed people due to its mischievous and powerful nature, but its earlier form has been restored as well as possible. The reconstructed Lempo was still an unwanted character because before the modern concept of love and romance, they were considered an unpredictable, foreign and dangerous possession. It was believed that love drove people lose their minds and behave brainlessly like frenzy cats during their mating time. And to prevent this from happening, the wise sage or healer was asked to drive Lempo away with runic spell so that the people affected by Lempo could eat and sleep again and stop howling. From appearance, Lempo was a young woman who had feathers and could fly with wings. But not much else is known about this Lempo.

I've forgotten quite a few actually and need to get back into it, since a lot more information has come to fruition. And I agree. No one should push their religious beliefs on anyone else. You do you. Unless you can call science a religion, then you can push that all you want (j/k that science is simply a belief system). Anyway, awesome video, as always!

Interesting how Hathor is both nurturer as well as the destroyer (Sekmet) in her mythology. Kind of like Shiva and Parvati almost. From destruction comes life and from life comes destruction? Idk, either or, I wonder what Lada would have been like if she did exist and her stories survived to today.

Iirc, some versions of the Sekhmet/Hathor mythos is that Sekhmet was born from the right eye of Ra. When she dozed from being drunk, Ra was able to convince her under Thoth's tutelage that she was being given the greatest control over mankind that anyone could ask for: the power of Love. And thus her drunken mind allowed him to change her to Hathor.

You: "Three love gods you've never heard of." Me: "TRY me." Mother Parvati? Yes, but I majored in Eastern Philosophy. Lada? No. Got me on that one. Hathor? I said it before you did. I know my Egyptian mythology because of a shortish-lived obsession when I was a kid. The way you describe her, though, she sounds like a mix of Parvati and Mother Kali, who, to be fair, ARE different aspects of the Mahadevi, so they're all one Goddess in the end. Mythology flowed between cultures along trade routes, of course: I wonder if the Vedic Hindus had any trade connections with Egypt? Also the blood-drinking thing. Mother Kali did that, too. Not out of a river, though: there was a demon named Ruktabija, which literally translates to "Drop of Blood", who, every time one of his drops of blood hit he ground, would sprout a double of himself. The gods were having a time getting rid of him, so they called Parvati to help. She had a time, got ticked off, the warrior goddess Durgha burst out of her third eye, but Durgha had a time, so SHE got pissed off, and when Durgha gets pissed off...oh baby, here comes Mom. So, Mother Kali comes out, strangles Ruktabija, but, for good measure, stabs him with a spear and drinks every last drop of his blood. Problem was, She started to go on a killing spree, and, when Shiva saw this, he threw himself under Her feet to prevent Her rampage. That's why you'll see depictions of him laying prone underneath Her. But since--even though She's in a different attitude here--he's technically Her husband, She did stop, so that worked yay.

There's a very symbolic meaning behind Shiva burning kama dev As Shiva was in meditation state it's symbolises how meditation can help you controlling emotions and desires and the third eye resembles the wisdom or enlightenment And afterwards Shiva casually walked towards kama Deva and took his ashes and wiped on his body which resembles his win win over lust Then parvathi explained that everyone livin body have some kind of materialistic desires and attachment towards something and you just can't killed someone emotions As the emotion between a mother and child , husband and wife , the owner to their pets , and even animal's emotions Therefore Shiva revived kama dev but he said that kama dev won't have any kind of physical body Which actually symbolises attachment towards even non livin things and their is no form of love
