I acctualy began noticing this, took me a while to work out wat it was, the first time I really worked it out was with bullet drop on low velocity guns and when i pulled some serious manuvers in a yak on a desert map.

1:45 the reason certain planes can't drop bombs while exceeding mach is because the pressure can cause the bombs to actually get sucked up behind the wing and they'll take out the tail which is less than useful. This is why all true deltas aren't affected by this.

I use this tactic when engaging modern jets in custom matches, I use my J29 and mount the AP rockets to decoy A-10 missiles and a couple ground to air missiles too.

The partial afterburner should be an actual feature that can be taught through some tutorial. It made my experience in top tier that much more enjoyable. Too bad it can get a little funky now and then. You can get to 101-2% without engaging an afterburner for example. Furthermore, I hope they won't patch this out, since technically WEP is just a disguised % and works the same even with propellers I think. But it's a game-changer, man.

What are your benefits with it? I use F-4E and tried the Su-22M3 a few times before the air spawn changes for attackers. I am totally fine with 20 Min of fuel and full burner on the normal RB maps. Just for Vietnam and Afghanistan I choose max fuel load. I cut burner just when diving and being to fast or in a dogfight, to let people overshoot and eat 20 mm rounds. I am near MiG-27M and it would be great if you can tell me what are the benefits? Because every pound of fuel is bad for your performance - and because air RB is quick I don't what a fuel tank when in a merge. But perhaps I made a mistake with this assumption?

@@majo3488 Some planes benefit greatly from this when cruising, either with their team to not be the first one to die or just finding the perfect balance for it---> You are not as slow as without WEP but you are fast enough. Epecialy those that can rip themselves apart with their own engines like the Mig-21. But the biggest benefit by far is that you can carry low fuel and still keep that 1/2 of full afterburner speed. Then when you enter combat you'll have quite some extra fuel to burn and stay. Different engines have different consumption though, so you gotta experiment a little to find the best strat.

Would also be nice to implement on the lightning F6 since the afterburner on that plane is actually just part of the throttle and will engage past 90% throttle. (you have between 90% and 100% to throttle the afterburner)

For the ability to vary the strength of reheat, I would say that this is just a side effect of WEP being essentially 110% throttle. You can adjust WEP almost the same way as you would with regular throttle percentages, though it’s one-way.

^^^ this is exactly it. In fact, sometimes if you tap into WEP lightly enough the game glitches and it displays “101%” despite the fact you’re in afterburner. So it’s basically a spectrum from 100-110% that you can stay in the low range of to save fuel.

I've not decoyed flares, but I've had the reverse happen. Enemy Su-7 turned off their engine so I couldn't lock them as a Sea Vixen but when they fired a rocket volley at a base it gave the seeker something to target and they got caught in the blast.

Back in the day of the mig29s, I used rockets as flares and did evade many missiles with them. Although you do have to throttle all the way down for it to work.

I usually decoy the R-60MKs from my Mi-24P with rockets so they can lock on helicopters easily, it's actually pretty effective if you can predict the path the missile takes to try to catch the rocket and make it lock on the heli after the missile changes heat lock

I regulary used the 2 x R60 and 2 S-24B loadout on the Yak-38. You can use the S-24B very effective as a bjg flare. It can block least two missiles.

I have found that I can shoot down other missiles with air-to-air missiles in a mig-23 pretty useful for me as I have saved myself from frontal missile attacks many times before

The scroll wheel thing is a feature as it temporarily increases thrust to web past 100% throttle. If I'm mistaken, it's always done this and idk about twin stage ab's. That sounds cool, though xd

The viggen is a bad example as it doesn't have flaps at all. The entire wing edge, which acts as ailerons and elevator is trimmed up or down. So you basically just change the rest position of your elevator. You actually physically change the position of your flight stick. No flaps, no takeoff position. Just nose up trim depending on load on takeoff and the just trim her to be stable. No flaps.

Interesting, I had figured out that scroll wep thing when they added EC maps to Air RB, I noticed constantly spamming it off and on make you consume fuel as if WEP was off, but still gain the massive boosting effects of A/B it's definitely a bug. This is nice at maintaining high speeds at 30,000 ft etc where your acceleration is meh, while also saving fuel but it's so niche especially with EC maps now gone..

2:16 Yes, someone managed to did that to me. I launched an aim 9j at max distance against an enemy. When the missile was about to approach the target, the enemy also fired a missile against another friendly. Since he fired the missile, my AIM 9j got momentarily distracted by the launched missile and due to that, it lost energy to reach the enemy.

Partial afterburner is most likely intentional as some jets such as the british Meteor use it; you can only use up to 109%, but having it between 100 and 109 have different grades of performance as well. Great video as always, love the packed format!

You are not far of with your afterburner claim. Several aircraft IRL have different levels/stages of afterburner. In fact, if I recall correctly, the Viggen has 3 afterburner stages that are dependent on the throttle position. The F-15 has different nozzle positions for different afterburner stages. Also afterburner is not something that you just engage and leave as-is for the rest of your usage. You can change the throttle setting while in afterburner to manage thrust and fuel consumption. However, at fuel consumption rates that high it is not very likely to get more miles from your jet engine :P
