I've been painting 12 years and I still feel like some of my work isn't worthy to be seen by others. It really is a process and you will still create duds, even as a professional. I've learned to just go with the flow. Excellent video Katie.

Thank you! You are right! Drawing is what I need to do more of to help in the success of my watercolor paintings. My plan is to take a sketch book out with me for the next week or so (hopefully more) and just draw little drawings here and there. I know the more I draw the better I get. Thanks for this reminder!

Hi Katie, thanks for another great video. I think that's the best advice I've ever heard from an artist is to have patience. We are so conditioned to having everything now and people around us expecting us to succeed overnight or we are classed as failures. So it can be really hard to keep going despite art being our passion. Thank you for your encouragement Katie, you're helping me to keep on going for my dreams. xx

Betty Edwards...I knew the author sounded familiar. When I was young, early 20s, I read her book drawing on the right side of the brain. It helped improve my drawing skills tremendously and helped me understand how the brain works while drawing. I have not read her color book, I will have read that one. Fast forward 20 years, I have mastered drawing, life happened and got out of art for awhile. I got back into it about 7-8 years ago and now, because of health issues, I decided to set up my home studio and become a full time artist. I do portrait drawing for commission but want to create paintings that I can sell as prints for consistent income. I feel I am still looking for my painting style, love watercolors, exploring acrylic. As artists, we are always learning.

Hi Katie, what do you do with failed paintings? Destroy and dump or white over and re-use the canvass? If you keep failed paintings do they bring bad karma into the studio?

Your paints must be faulty. Get paints that are better pigmented. Or try mixing a good deal of white.

Let's be honest here. If artists want to sell their work maybe they shouldn't price it like they are Leonardo. Artists today are a dime a dozen. If you want to sell your work price or reasonably. Cost of materials, canvas 16 x 20 $20.00. Paint $5.00. Medium $5.00. Time $15.00 - $20.00 an hour. Don't include drying time. We aren't working on the peice during drying time. Two hours painting time, $40.00. Add wear and tear on vehicle, gas & oil, if you actually took the time to go buy materials as apposed to having them delivered include another $5.00. Double that for the p&l mark-up for the grand total of, $180.00. Anything more is uncivilized. If the artist features the work on KZbin or any social media platform then no more than $20.00. Even that is really too much to pay for an original featured on social media. Why? Because that peice has already paid for itself 100 fold, AND will continue to pay for itself for the rest of time!

Stephan Baumann on KZbin reckons $2 per inch, in European £1.85 per 25 per square cm. Otherwise you attract "the Wallmart crowd".
@phillipstroll7385
@phillipstroll7385 3 жыл бұрын
@@Road38910 Walmart crowd? I would guess Walmart got to be the largest department store on earth by realizing their money was as good as anyone else's. If they didn't make a shit ton of money they wouldn't be able to lobby congress. I guess it all comes down to, do you want to eat or don't you. Especially in today's market. Back in the day we had to hustle. Get out there make contacts, beat the streets, etc. Today all we have to do is make a KZbin channel and put it on insta. Big difference. Most of us aren't even selling originals. Just prints. Which are pretty much valueless. I'm not knocking the profession. Not by any means. Just saying times have changed. Time to change with them or get left behind.

ES RIDICULO Y MUY MAL INTENCIONADO TOMAR POR SEPARADO UNA PALABRA Y TERGIVERSARLA PARA HACER CREER A LOS INCAUTOS ALGO DIFERENTE A LA INTENCION DE UNA ORACION. ESO ES MALVADO Y ESCONDE PERVERSOS INTERESES.
