Me too. I myself can relate more to those who admit their difficulties and fails. Since about a year I have discovered several times that some of the artists on social media "admit" fails that obviously haven't really happened. I'm sure they also fail sometimes just like everybody does, so I wonder why they don't admit their true fails. It makes me wander off and unsubscribe if I catch a creator doing this a second time, because I crave honesty.

I think something to note with starting a KZbin Channel is it takes a long time for it to be a place of revenue. I have made over 50 videos covering Speedpaints, studio vlogs and tips and I’m definitely no where near being able to make it a place of revenue but instead it’s such a fantastic creative outlet and I’m addicted to making videos almost as much as art 😅❤️🙌 I guess it all comes back to following what you love 😊🥰 and no matter what you are doing it always takes time and patience 🙌 Love your videos! Also really excited for you to share your experience once your bubs arrives! My lil man is almost 7 weeks old and I’m finding it hard to reintroduce art but just taking each day as it comes atm ❤️

There are SO many options for setting up your booth. A lot of people like to use grid walls to maximize their hanging space but that's a serious investment 🤑. It also depends on how much space you have and on precisely what you are selling. Best 3 tips. 1) Make your space reflect who you are 2) Make sure you have at least some pieces at eye level and 3)Make sure you have plenty of light.

I greatly dislike doing economic stuff, so I am hoping that one of my sons will take over this work, as two of them are internet professionals, who right now are setting up their own new businesses. I also don't like social media and I am only on KZbin since several years, but without my own content. I write, paint and handicraft, but currently I earn the most from translating text and books from English to German when for example authors ask me to do the translation. I truly have difficulties advertising myself, so I only show my art in my town and to those whom I know or get to know. Suffering from cPTSD, I hardly socialize. I would say, I am doing everything but improving my art sells. I used to be freelance journalist and as such also covered press and PR for more than 30 years. So I of course know what I would tell myself if I were my PR assistant. Yet living socially distanced and having had to retire from my former beloved profession, also is part of my authentic me. Thus I'm aiming at another, more authentic manner of handling the situation. I thought of starting a channel with creative tutorials, but there already are so many out there. The best are those who are authentic *and* also have the guts to show themselves in public. I was thinking of real life art classes, but people are so focused on online services, that I don't really believe this to be a good decision, unless it's a renown artist. Do you have an idea for unknown artists on how to sell art without going public online?

Very interesting, thank you. At the moment the only place I really sell is Local Art Society Exhibitions but there's not too many of them and they have a practical price limit of up to £400 I've seen much higher but they never sell plus I don't make it easy for myself as my paintings take around 10-20 hours work so the hourly rate is poor. I sell prints through Fine art America but total sales are 2 prints after 1.5 years! Thinking about Etsy but can you realistically sell at highish prices? I'm less than useless at the social side of the business (Autism diagnosis) so that doesn't help to say the least. Anyway, I've rambled on for too long thanks again for the great video.

My other question is about pricing. I have no idea how much to price my art. I've searched for similar art to mine at Etsy and it goes from around $500.00 into to the thousands. thank you so much... you are so lovely. I hope your little family is doing very well. I have begun to paint again since August of 2018 when I painted a large 48" x 36" for my son's 18th birthday. I made a painting of his favorite summer place in Sonoma California near the Russian River. I had never seen him freak out so much. I had not painted in 20 years. He did not know I had once painted. I have a BA in Photography, and Graphic Arts. I have 2 minors in Fine Art and Interior Design. But since I had him, Interior Design is what I have done for 20 years. He begged me to paint from now on and retire from working so hard and having issues with safety during this Corona Virus era. You have been very inspiring. I appreciate all your work and your honesty. I am now going to paint full time.... or the best of what can be considered full time. lol. 80% perspiration and 20% inspiration! My question is regarding originals vs prints. What is the ratio of your sales of one vs the other? What to look for and whom to use to make your prints? Also, keeping your own rights and protecting your original artwork when using photography on the internet, when printing prints, when selling originals etc. Can you elaborate or make a video when possible about the subject? I am currently painting with acrylics, mostly landscapes, some portraits of our son (he is so handsome...lol... he will kill me!), to allow for some technique testing. I need to get out of my head and plan for my next 20 years. I don't want to retire. What for? So creating another business it is! I have always been quite successful with my creativity... but this time it feels more raw... more of my soul and emotions are flowing. I know you understand. Anyway, if you can, you may reply or do whatever makes you comfortable regarding these subjects. I admire all of your work and what makes you lovely is your soul and human essence. Thank you and always take care of you and your family before you take care of others such as your followers. When mama is happy we all are happy. Blessings to you.... and hello from Sunny California.... well, as soon as all the fires die down... hoping for clear skies. Stay safe. Rose Aurora.

I want to know when did you decide that you are ready for selling your artwork? Because people around me tell that sell my artwork but I don't think that I am ready

Hi Katie. I’d particularly like your take on Etsy. I’ve tried them to no avail and have many watercolours available are there any tricks or tips to using this site.

i'd like to approach art as a career instead of a hobby. (a very expensive one also) but sadly -i am in chronic pain- last year i stopped walking and my hands can't even open a tube of paint on some days. so it kinda sets me off course. It would be great and appreciated if you have any advise for cases like mine. Thank you in advance and have an awesome day! :]

I find it difficult to get people to see my work on my Instagram or Facebook page 🙄 can you please share your experience about how you built that initial crowd?

I wonder if maybe the Etsy fees are causing you to loose out on money. Can you give more info on how you crafted and how you adjust your business plan?

That is so useful!! Thank you for being so honest! It's really encouraging to see how you deal with "failure-or-learning opportunity" - you're right, it's not the end of the world, just another piece in the jigsaw puzzle. I'd really like to know more about your take on two things: 1) materials: I can paint with few pigments, so I can buy some better quality ones, but I cannot afford good canvasses. But I feel if I were to sell something, people could expect decent supports that last. How have you dealt with this problem before you became successful enough to buy good stuff? 2) For sending paintings in the post, apart from packaging them well (I know you're made some videos about that), how do you find a good carrier? I see Royal Mail excludes art work from compensation, and the carriers that specifically transport art work charge more than I would for the work. Thank you for making this series, great idea! :)

Hi I have a question I created a series Little Blessings and have them on a site that prints and sells and ships I get 10 % on everything I sell wondering if I should mark up prices or leave it all the prices they suggest and start selling. Thank you

I am so glad you are doing these series! Yay! I plan to start selling my art and recently also started my art KZbin Channel. These videos would be very helpful. Katie, whats the best thing to paint on with acrylics - can I use very thick cardboard, wooden canvas (it's cheaper for me) or should I definitely use canvas on a frame? I am looking for budget friendly options.

Hi Katie, First of all I would like to say that I absolutely love to watch your videos. They always motivate me to create and try and fail of course as this is absolutely part of the journal. I've been wondering how to set up something for myself. I've seen so much great tips and ideas but as I'm living in the Netherlands there might be different organizations to use when you want to sell prints for example. Do you know anything about that? Or do you know a Dutch artist that is open to contact and a conversation? Thank you so much for putting yourself out there. Keep strong and be happy xx
