My favourite emotional moment in OFAH is Del explaining why he doesn’t show emotion and why he has to play the tough guy after grandad died. Especially when he says: bloody families I’m finished with ‘em, what do they do? Hold you back, bring you down and then they break your blood heart.

Such a sad misstep with Del ignoring Albert's melancholy, one of the rare occasions in this masterpiece series of some bad writing there.

I don’t agree. Del feels he needs to make a joke of things. Probably because he’s not sure how to react, but also because that’s what he is, the joker, the man who makes people laugh. That’s how he sees himself. Whereas his inner self is a caring, sensitive sole who deeply cares for his brother and uncle. He just doesn’t always know how to show it. Seen many guys like this. There are many times in the series when his real sensitive side does come out though.
