For booting in safe mode easier, when in black screen, press control+alt+del and then in the lower right corner you should have the restart button option. While holding shift, press the restart....you can release shift 2 sec after, it will take you to the blue screen with troubleshoot option and you chose to restard in safe mode there like in the video.

Why do you think he went through the trouble of telling you how to create recovery media? Booting into safe mode with Windows 8/10 is different than it was with previous operating systems. Just pay careful attention to the video and if you can't follow, then have someone more tech savvy take a look.

None of these fixes worked for me. But this did, so I thought I'd share in case you are in the same situation as I was. Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc and go to File -> Run New Task, then type services.msc. Scroll down until you find 'App Readiness' from the list and 'Disable' . Then Restart your computer and hopefully all will return back to normal. This worked for me :)

#2 has a simpler way. If your screen is black get a flash drive with nothing in it (any will do I've tried multiple) connect it to the laptop (Dont know if this works on PC) then on the startup press F12 and wait for the screen to load. Options will pop up. Click on the option with the name of the flash drive and wait for it to load. It might not work the first time but just try another time or 2 more times (Turn off the computer and repeat the steps F12, options, and wait for it to load) Then you have the blue screen with those options like continue, troubleshoot, and turn off your PC. Then you can follow the rest of the steps. It worked for me.

Thanks. The multiple cold shut downs worked for me. On the third time (or 4th) widows recovery mode came up and after following the steppes I could choose safe mode with networking. Opened device manager like you said and forced an update on one of my GeForce cards. When I rebooted windows loaded correctly on one of my two screens. ***This next part is fore people with multiple screens like me. If you can only get 1 of your screens to work and you are using SLI open up you NVIDIA control panel choose the "configure SLI, surround, PhysX" option under the 3D settings tab then in the section that opens up choose the 'activate all displays' check box. For some reason nvidia will some times uncheck this option when you have update your graphics drivers.

If you have a cursor on the black screen, restart the computer and click ESC once every second. Press restart once it comes up, and then press the button that corresponds to "Safe Mode.". Log in, and then restart the computer and it should be working again. Nothing worked on these KZbin videos until I went to the HP website. I'm sure this works for HP gaming desktops, but it might be worth a try on other laptops. :)

Sometimes the black screen problem can be caused by too much power going to the monitor. If too much power goes to the monitor it will go black. The same thing happened on my cell phone. To correct the problem go into open settings> system> display> adjust brightness level. Cut the level back to around half. And see what happens!

I used the second option after booting into safe mode. There was no update available but i restarted my computer and my desktop was working. It didn't work immediately so I tried the third option which then may have actually made it work. I am not sure which one did work but after trying all three at once, it worked.

Hi Handy Andy. Need your help urgently. I'm up to my wits end with this. My case is: Lenovo Z51-70. Windows 10 Black screen of death with cursor after signing-in. Then I pressed CTRL+ALT+DEL, Lock, Switch User, Logout and Task Mgr options pop-up. I selected Task Mgr, and this is where the problem starts, I get the Black Screen of Death all over again. It doesn't enter into the actual Task Mgr box. Therefore I can't get into Device Mgr to disable those Graphic Card problem thingy. I've done all the suggestions below but they don't work either. Safe Mode with Networking (Restarts and returns to black screen) Windows+P, chooses duplicate screen. (Returns to black screen) Run chkdsk f/, scanned sectors and repaired. (Returns to black screen upon restarting) Done a reset (reformat), and still no joy. Black screen. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

The Win P option actually works. But there's a little catch. Be careful while pressing. Just press Win P and see what happens. Cycle through this way through the four option. It works for me and it prevented me from buying a new graphics card :)

I have AMD Radeon R9 290X GDDR5 4GB (512bit) video card (there are 2 cards actually, but this one is primary). I like to play video games and most of the time, they run smoothly on high settings. When Forza Horizon 4 came out, I bought the game. When I tried to launch it, the table popped up saying that I need to update my AMD drivers. When I did it, the game started and it runs smoothly now. But every time I restart or turn off my PC, Windows does not load. I get the black screen and nothing else happens. I cannot login to my account. So I have to use safe mode to load the Windows and then uninstall the drivers. I used Win10 64Bit Radeon Software Adrenalin Edition 18.9.3 Sept26. I tried many things (including DDU tool, some other apps, suggestions from various posts and many forums) concerning these and some previous driver versions, but nothing helps. I also tried custom install, express install, but those steps also do not help. So it means that in order to play Forza Horizon 4, I have to install the latest AMD drivers and after finishing to play it, uninstall it. Otherwise, I will not load my Windows because this black screen appears. So my question is, what do I have to do in order to play the games without every time reinstalling the drivers? BTW, some older games were running with AMD 17.7.2 drivers and I didn't have any problems. I tried launching Forza Horizon 4 with this version, but the game does not load (after long waiting I get the game menu settings, but after pressing 'play' I see a constant loading screen...

Or maybe instead of a new version of graphic card nvidia maybe you need to roll back to previous version.So right click on my computer, go to manage, navigate to device manager (left pane), open display adapters (right pane), now right click on your nVidia device and open properties, go to driver tab, the third button there is "roll back driver". if you can't roll back, then uninstall the driver from control panel, restart your computer, and install the older version of your graphics driver.
