Replacement arrived!By the way, I did forget to mention that the original lure did have a decent strike however as most anglers will attest you can get a hit kzbin.infoUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 and fish will hang on and release lure. I used the replacement lure yesterday and ran thru a Shimano Waxwing, Kastmaster, Bobber (set to sink). I found the does run deep (I casting on the flats 3.5'). Make sure you adjust your rate of retrieve and rod tip angle (up) to prevent getting snagged on bottom. Used it a couple of times and action was very lifelike (looked like local bait fish for trevally), craftsmanship very good....however eyeball fell out. I asked for replacement and it is on it's way! It was very easy to change out treble to single inline hook.
@jimbo46125 жыл бұрын
One trick most anglers don't use and it works exceptionally well is adding a thumb nail weight inside the Fluke itself. This makes the lure fall in several patterns depending on where you insert the thumbnail weight. it also allows you to keep the more natural presentation without a lead head

Flukes are my go to bait for bass. I use them a little different than what is shown here. I rig the same way, but with a 1/0 hook and no weight. I retrieve them super slow. let it sink for 10-20 seconds, twitch it a bit then let it sink again. Works great when the bass aren't being aggressive. They will suck up the bait and just sit there with it in their mouth.
@mattnash51596 жыл бұрын
Chris this is how i have to fish them at my local pond. Rarely are they aggressive but some days in the summer with the green pumpkin fluke i can catch quite a few.

THANK GOD I’m not the only guy who fishes these “backwards” like this. Every once in a while I’ll have a moment of doubt...awww, maybe it has better action the other way, maybe its better if the hook is concealed in the bait, etc. It’s really nice to see there are other guys out there rigging them like this.
@robertbrandywine5 жыл бұрын
I'll have to try it that way. It seems like it would be weedless that way, too, without having to keep resinking the hook tip in the plastic.
@manifestgtr5 жыл бұрын
Robert Brandywine Yeah man...it’s actually really weedless that way. The hook point just kind of hangs out in the split and you can drag the whole thing through some pretty dense cover

Having fished multiple s in different sizes and colors, kzbin.infoUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 this is by far my favorite. One thing to be aware of is the sided willow blade. One side is silver and the other is the green/orange shown. This is not bad, just unconventional. In terms of fishing, I have found the lure works just fine without a tail like a craw or shad. That addition is up to you. Also, the hook part where you attach the swivel snap or tie the line is a problem on baits these days, since it's able to slide up and down. However this lure seems to be tight enough that that doesn't happen often, and you can solve it by putting a thin slice of medical tube over the hook before attaching the line. Like others have said, it's really magic on a good windy day.

I usually rig it with a 1/16 weighted twistlock with the hook out of the back and forgo the skin hook and it is still very weedless and hookup ratio is phenomenal. I use it for speckled trout as well and don’t have to set the hook no harder than I twitch the bait.

Typically I’ll go with a 5/0 Owner twistLOCK hook, I get a few more catches per bait using that style. Sometimes I will throw them rigged upside down as he did, the hookups are still very good. I like the bigger hook and have no trouble catching bass even barely twice as long as the bait. Ham Bone and Green Pumpkin Magic are my two go-to colors as of right now. In the past I’ve done well with Baby Bass and Albino.. If you throw it with braid on spinning gear you’ll need a swivel between your leader and mainline, they are a real line twister with that setup.. I’ve not noticed much line twist on casting gear with 15+lb straight fluorocarbon.

Thank you man. Iv never used a fluke before. Yesterday went and bought a 3$ pack of white flukes and ended up landing 3 large mouths and 1 big small mouth in the span of 30 mins. They were tearing it up. But after 30 mins they just quit biting. Not sure if the scent wore off, the sun got lower.. I thought they just moved but about 15 mins of nothing my little brother caught another large mouth on a worm so they were still around. Did the bass learn my bait and stopped attacking? Do i switch baits after that or just move spots?
@meef16104 жыл бұрын
Sometimes a switch in bait is nice. Move around a bit and then come back to the same spot. Work mini areas within your general Area. Maybe multiple piles with contrasting setups. Give fluke break them come back

If you want to catch more than a couple fish per fluke, try Mann's Hardnose and just nose hook it with a finesse hook. It works great in open water, gives a great action because you don't have a hook through half the body and those Mann's baits will last a very long time.

I love fishing the fluke but I have trouble with getting a good hook up on it for some reason any tips?
@Wired2Fish7 жыл бұрын
This can be a challenge based on the single hook. Bass need to "eat" it in order to consistently get hooks with the 4/0. If we're not hooking up, we'll often let the fish "eat" it a little longer. They'll mouth the plastic pretty good, often getting the entire fluke in their mouth, then quickly reel down until you feel weight and give the bass a solid sweep set. You can also try sliding a treble hook onto the shank of the offset hook, then insert one of the trebles loosely into the underside of the fluke (down by hook bend). This will give you 2 additional sticky treble hook points for those annoying nip bites.
@DrZiggyzoo17 жыл бұрын
I didn't see in your video, but do you prefer to use a swivel or no swivel? Sometimes I get really bad line twist with a fluke, so lately I've been using a swivel.
@ChrisVZ776 жыл бұрын
Let them start swimming off with it before setting the hook. In my experience, the initial strike is them grabbing it, and as they start to swim off, they will pull it completely into their mouth.

Can these be used when fish aren't schooling and if so, when?
@Wired2Fish7 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. Speaking as a northern states angler, a fluke rigged like this is deadly in anytime fish are shallow and feeding on minnows, which is pretty much always. We'll fish in lieu of a jerkbait, and we'll use in shallow cover like bullrushes with mixed weed instead of hollow body frogs, spinnerbaits or bladed jigs. Excellent rigged on a jig and fished on a cast in deeper water, or vertical on top of fish or on a Carolina Rig. Super versatile and almost always money.
