I saved $50K on a new car purchase earlier this year ... I walked out of the dealership.

What about special interest rates from manufacturers? My new Subaru rate was 1.9%, credit union was 5.7% and bank 6.9%.

Easy to save big at the dealer, 1. Do not trade in to the dealer, sell your old car yourself. 2. Do not buy any addons or pay any fake fees. 3. Do NOT finance through the dealer, if they can finance you then you qualify to get a loan directly from the bank yourself, the dealer is just going to get the loan from the bank for you and act as a middle man and add on a few percentage points for himself to the Intrest rate.

Spoken like a true car salesman. Always go look at the car first. Always. Especially for a used car. And take it to get checked out by an independent mechanic before you sign anything. Mike still gives advice to make it easiest on the salesperson.
@LCJammer3 ай бұрын
depends on the dealership most won't let you take that used car off the lot to get it checked. carmax and carvana have 7-10 day return policy which you can take it to indie shop to get inspected and if you do find issues you can have them fix it under the limited warranty.

You can go to the dealer to test drive. You just do not ever negotiate at the car dealership.

But Mike, what about test drives? It's nice to see the vehicle you're scoping out in person first. Just don't entertain working a deal that day unless they make the deal too good to refuse I suppose.

This right here... buying something that costs several months of salary sight unseen allows dealerships to hide a lot.

One last question, Do we absolutely have to get the timing belt done at 100K? Can we go over it at all? The dealership said it would take about 4 hours to change my timing belt. I just don't want a backyard mechanic doing it. At least if i go to Honda to change my timing belt i assume it has a warranty and they do them all the time and shouldn't have any issues i would think. Thank you. Enjoy your channel.

Don't go much over, I change it before the deadline since, if it breaks, it typically means a new engine. Also, you don't have to go to the dealer, a good independent specialist can easily do it. Use review sites (Yelp, Google reviews) and brand specific forums to find a decent independent - or friends & family. And, just so you know, most mechanics at dealerships aren't that good - once they gain experience, they typically leave or start their own business.

The above comment is pretty dead on. I would not go past 10 years or 100k Mies. To much risk of a very expensive repair. If you find someone who does timing belts a lot you’re good. A dealership is going to cost 1500-3000. A independent shop under 2k.

I’ve been watching Tomi work deals on KZbin, a lot of dealers won’t even give a price over the phone, much less negotiate.

Most will be calling you back soon...if you show any interest, they will follow up and likely deal over the phone. If the dealer is smart in today's market , you will hear from them begging to serve you.

Please I'm dead serious I have been wanting to get that ceramic coating on my pickup. It's a goat but only because I was dead set on a 2dr and the only gm's I could find were work trucks. Been a gm guy my entire life. It broke my heart but when you are old like me you need those options. But ya I'm serious do you know of any good places up here? In the Toronto area?👍🇨🇦🔧

Back before Covid, every Honda Accord i bought i got it at 18 percent off the sticker out the door. This dealership is in Virginia and used to have football fields of cars. I alwys got .09 percent for 5 years everytime. I would hate to go and buy a new car now. I will never ever pay sticker and above. I have 78K on my Honda Accord Coupe and i will drive it till it wont run again. Never to have car payments again. I also learned never deal with the Internet Salespeople. They dont seem as flexible as a regular salesperson. Just my experience.

I have a question. When a dealer shows us the invoice, is that exactly how much they paid? I have always heard there are more than 1 invoice. Also when negotiating, would you start at say $500 above invoice? You know they will always says thats too aggressive and not a fair price. I believe in making a profit but not gouging people. I hate i mean hate going to buy a new car. Not saying you but others will look you inthe eyes and some will say we are losing money on this sale. I always respond i bet you are losing Money. Look at how nice the dealership is. So is there 1 invoice if so, where would you start your negotiation? Thanks 🙏
