Sooner Magic! Down 17-10 with a little over 2 minutes left, the Sooners led by Barry Switzer, Jamelle Holloway, Keith Jackson, Spencer Tillman & Brian Bosworth conjure up some ol' Sooner Magic to defeat Tom Osborne's Cornhuskers 20-17 in Lincoln. OU tight end Keith Jackson supplies the game's highlight: a one-handed sideline tight-rope catch to set up kicker Tim Lashar's game-winning field goal to send OU to the Orange Bowl.

OU fan who grew up about 50 miles from Lincoln and I was there for this game with 3 Husker fan buddies. Saw alot of games in Memorial Stadium but after Keith Jackson caught that pass it was so quiet it was unbelievable. Great day remember it fondly.

I was there and you were exactly right! I remember how quiet it was too, even at the final gun. Weird thing was OU came back to Lincoln the next year. Not sure why 2 years in a row in Lincoln but I enjoyed being at that game too. I remember sitting in the south end zone when #3 for OU came into the game as a tailback in the wishbone and knew something was up. He had a great block for Patrick Collins long TD run. Saw it all in the binoculars.

My brother and I were sitting in the north end zone for this game. The guy in front of us had a brand new Sony Watchmen (A hand sized TV). He was so proud of it and excited that he was able to tune in the game. We were able to watch the ABC replays (this was WAY before HuskerVision). When Keith Jackson made that one handed catch at the end, the dude snapped and launched that Watchman 50 rows, right onto the field. What a loss! GBR!

I'm a young Brazilian looking to play football in college in the US and I love watching games from that time and the 70's, Keith Jackson became my second favorite TE after Gronk

Broderick Thomas tricked the game off when Keith Jackson ran by him and caught that tipped pass. That play was a heart breaking and unforgettable.Alot of us Husker fans cried about it.🏈😥☝️

The Big Eight had changed the schedule in 86 and 87 to ensure that the other 6 six schools didn't have to play OU and NU on the road in the same year

When OSU came into the Big 7 in 1957, it messed up the conference scheduling. This was the conference's plan to reconcile that. Why they waited until the late 80s to do it, who knows? Oddly, Nebraska never played twice in a row in Norman. Who knows? OU also played at Iowa State in 86 and 87, and OSU came to Norman both years.

Amazing how bad of a play call that was for the last play! LOL! I know it is a 0.1% chance to score with a hail mary but man! An "I" formation with a tight end up top for the last play! LOL! ONLY THE 80'S! Miss those days! Loved the Sooners!

Oh, man, this was a great game! I'm a Husker fan, and there's nothing like NU-OU. Unfortunately, no more. Both the Skers and Sooners deserve blame for that. I always say, things even up. The facemask on the 4th and 1 early in the 94 yd drive cost NU. Same way that the facemask on Crouch before the reverse pass cost OU in 2001.

@theroncon I understand full well the history of the Big 12 as I am a 1972 Kansas State grad. It seemed OU played at Nebraska 2 years in a row. If that was the case, I was wondering why?

When the Big 7 added Oklahoma State in 1957, it skewed the existing conference schedule. This was part of the conference's plan to reconcile that. What they waited until the late 80s is unknown Interestly, Nebraska had never had to play in Norman in back to back games. OU also played at Iowa State in 86 and 87, and OSU came to Norman both years.
