Thanks for this great share and all of your wealth of great knowledge Steve! Another super useful tip for most of these is that you can use a combination wrench on the hex shaped head. Helpful for getting to plugs on motobikes with limited space! Cheers and merry Christmas to y'all! P.s. uncle Bob and aunt Fred said howdy😉

Awesome tool,thanks for sharing Steve.There are so many times i have used a drill to start an engine and luckily never got injured..i'm getting one of these.

I have used a ratcheting adapter to start my Stihl brushcutter for about a year. It works very well, but there is an important safety consideration not mentioned here. When these adapters spin, the centrifugal force can force the ratchet adapter directional control adapter to move so that the direction reverses, thus raising the possibility of severe injury. This is a known issue, and some people use duct tape to hold the direction ring in place, some go for a permanent direction lock using super glue. I roughed up the surfaces, then applied JB Weld to immobilize the direction selector, which has worked very well. Obviously, I now have a unit that can only be used for clockwise rotation, but it is worth it to me.

GREAT POINT!

Absolutely a great safety precaution. The reversing switch is the same as on any ratchet wrench (craftsman, snap-on,etc), simply a dog to flip directions. MAJOR hand and wrist injuries will occur.

I beat you to the punch on this one Steve, found out about it and purchased in Canada in June 2024 for $30.62, Well worth it and my main purpose was to use on outboard motor with no pull cord.

I've got 2 of those and use one of them exactly as you've shown, starting my generator and chipper/shredder, the other in my vehicle with a breaker bar for lug nuts. When using these to start power equipment make sure that the ratchet it set for the correct direction EVERY time you go to use it. It is very easy to accidentally switch, even when the machine backlashes sometimes. They work great as Steve says.

Have used one of these ratchets for years, but not until recently, when I had shoulder surgery and could not pull a starting cord, did this devise really save the day.

Great video Steve! This would be really helpful on a cordless ratchet. Save you from getting everything jammed up when backing out a bolt into part of the body and then you can’t change the direction because the switch is on the top of the ratchet. I haven’t done that myself, but was warned by someone who has. I’ll get one just for that reason!

I've broken the pawls on mine using a breaker bar back in the 80s it was a tight spot about the 8th time I used it. Used previously with my short 1/2" bar no issues but the breaker bar lived up to its name😂 just saying be aware

I have a 1950s/60s version of that ratchet adapter made by Herbrand tools only it's a 1/2 drive it was amongst a bunch of old tools I got when I bought an anvil at a garage sale and I have to say it has been useful on my breaker bar on a couple of occasions.

I see it also has a hex on the end so you can use a wrench instead of a breaker bar if you have limited space. Looks like a handy tool to have.
@abkfishingshootingdiaries713036 минут бұрын
Which way do you set it for generator starting as shown. Lefty Lucy or right tighter
@Cacheola4 минут бұрын
Some ppl don't know how to pullstart something... yank on it like a baboon, a foot later it catches, eventually destroying the pauls/rope. Those are the spring loaded pauls ratcheting btw, not ball bearings. Pull the drill/socket off the flywheel nut when the engine fires, boom done. No gimmicky ratchet adapter required, you can buy more Lucky

Steve, when I find it necessary to use a breaker bar, I usually have about a 8 foot length of pipe installed over the bar. I’m not sure that little gadget’s gonna hold up. 😂😂

I have one for weedeaters and one for mowers. It saves your arm when working on an uncooperative motor or you want to run a motor with the recoil off 👍
@kenbrown28082 сағат бұрын
my old generator wore through two pull cords. it still starts, okay, but it surges, and cleaning the jet didn't fix it. but it was an electric start crapsman mower that I started starting with a cordless drill, because it was cheaper than replacing the battery every year.
@mgomez56063 сағат бұрын
I just replace the rope. Do not try to start unit. Then they ask me if it starts and tell them I don’t know because you brought it for broken rope.

One other thing make sure you're spinning the engine in the correct direction !

The point of a breaker bar is to generate more torque than a ratchet can take without breaking.
