I saw that you were watching a video about Kintsukuroi. I was a potter for years until a back surgery left me with nerve damage. One of the reasons why I have moved on to classical guitar is because of the upright posture, whereas in wheel thrown pottery one must lean over the wheel. I will always find a new art form. I’m 49 now and started oil painting at age seven. I was more or less raised to be an artist by my grandmother. She started me out oil painting. We skipped the finger painting and water colors. I still have her painting kit and easel, so I’ll be painting again soon. Wish me luck! Your videos are very insightful. Thanks for taking the time.

I would also suggest studying music theory and how to apply it to the guitar fret board. How to analyze harmony and the piece you are playing. This kind of knowledge aids memory and avoids relying only on muscles to remember. It improves your confidence when you know what you are doing and greatly improved your site reading skills.

You asked about our hobbies, and thank you for the reminder that hobbies are so important! Mine are my dog (Názár, a Hungarian Vizsla), things medieval (including food and clothes), and writing. Then of course music: harp, recorders and guitar (I began in January with guitar). I am making myself begin at the beginning and trying to be sure I have reached a degree of skill before I let myself go on to the next step. It is difficult to decide what exactly that level is, but it seems to be few mistakes. Of course I still make mistakes. But I am not bored with what I am doing so I am happy doing it. One of the most important things you said was don't take pieces that are too difficult. So very true! And I really loved the quotes.

I‘ve started playing again after three years of abstinence. Zeroing in isolating difficulties and working on them is what I try to learn now…..Not always easy, but it helps.

Very informative video! Your 3 solutions are also awesome ways to master all sorts of difficulties in life... "until the day YOU DIE!". I somehow expected you saying: "A very wise old man once introduced me to the sacred ways of the 3-Why method.", but "I recently have learned the 3-Why method." is also fine.

yes they work as general advices really well. And yeah I wish I could say it was a wise old man but I just can't recall who told me about this. Probably it wasn't a remarkable meeting. Or the guy was boring, idk ❤️

Haha thanks, this means a lot! Well actually I want to go with being motivating by acting, not by saying. Antoine de St. Exupery (1900-1944) who wrote: “if you want to build a ship, don't drum up the men to gather wood, divide the work and give orders. I'm an engineer and usually bring parts of the methodology of math and computational physics into my practice sessions (2-3 hours). The difficult part for me is that I get stuck, solving bio-mechanical problems related my fingers movement and accuracy, learning new movements and this results in making endless exercises to improve my muscular memory. After 2 hours of exercising my fingers on both hands, and solving problems of different pieces, generating music gets very hard. I need to have a better balance between playing and solving problems. Do you have any tips on that? Thanks

For me help if i put away guitar for one, two, three or more weeks and when i start to play again, then i realise how good am i : ) Then i see where is still to place to more progres and how to do it. I dont do it on purpose, only when i have enough off practice and i see that there is no more progres.

Dear Beatrix, To learn the proper pronunciation of the word curious, break the word into four separate parts: k you ree us. Give each part the same weight in the beginning, keeping them separate. When you have it, blend the ‘k’ and ‘you’ sounds into one dominant syllable followed with blended ‘ree’, and ‘us’. Et voilà, you have reached the light at the end of the tunnel!
