I just started taking creatine to help with muscle loss and hopefully improve my skeletal structure. It was amazing to hear so much in-depth research and all the questions I had were answered. Thanks for another outstanding episode.

Simon, my husband and I started taking creatine after watching your last video about it. We started at a low dose and kept it that way. We both had problems with constipation even though we were drinking a lot more water and it completely changed the nature of our stools to be very sticky and tarry with a very bad smell. We both quit taking it and it took about a month before my digestion felt like it was back to normal. I really wanted to take creatine because the research on it is so compelling but I sure don't want to try again!

Just to add..a decade or so ago much of the creatine available was found with a process that introduced contaminants. The industry says this is all fixed now and some fitness experts on you tube, but I only trust crea pure, a originally german sourced manufacturing process of creatine. But with crea pure I think they may have bought the patent. Used to be back in the day creatine would automatically bloat you with water. The reason was found the contaminants not the creatine itself. I think in this cheap is not best. For years you had to search out the german manufacturing process now crepure it is pretty easily found.

Very basic question: If this is so essential for human health and only exists in animal based diet (meat, fish, dairy, eggs) how come a vegan claim plant based diet is optimal for humans? Could being dependent on synthetic vitamins and minerals for the rest of your life be an optimal diet? Can someone make his/her health better by going against a 1 million years+ evolutionary diet and eat foods that didn’t exist 99.99999999% of their existence on earth and use synthetic supplements to compensate the lack of essential nutrients? Would be great if you can answer these questions in your next sessions, but please invite someone that disagrees with you such as Prof Benjamin Bikman, Dr. Paul Mason, Dr. Georgia Ede, Zoe Harcombe PhD etc. If you only interview with vegans/vegetarians you’re basically in your echo chamber.

Question about its effect on the immune system: Ever since I went fully vegan eight years ago I never ever got sick. Except every time in the last two years I started to take creatine, one week into it I get ill. I tried it six times and at every single try I got the flu. When I stop taking it and after some time of recovery I once again don’t get sick until the next try of starting creatine. I am convinced by it’s benefits but at the same time getting sick (something really unusual for me) doesn’t seem like a positive effect. Of course this is just my experience, it might be totally random, but then again: Every single time! Are there any studies about creatines effect on the immune system? Do other people experience something similar?

My preumptive guess is it has a to do with any contaminants that may be in the creatine not the creatine itself. Some of the manufacturers may produce things not overtly hazardous but with contaminatnts that may do things.+ So I would buy a better quality one not the cheapest out there, perhaps with third party tesinng or some equal. I get sick (a cold)when ever I take a certain neutrooic herb, so if that were contaminated in creatine it will not hurt you the herb, but I would get sick. You never do know what things absent third party testing . or some equal, a very reputable manufacturer perhaps.

@@ronhumphreys3762 thanks for your reply! Contaminants are probably a issue for a lot of supplements. In this specific case I actually did take a tested and pure creatine (Creapure, from a supplier that does third party testing multiple times with every charge) and I still experience those effects. First I thought it can’t be from the creatine? I went to the doctor I was told my ears are infected, took antibiotics for 5 days, headache and vertigo didn’t go away. I stopped taking creatine for 2 days my headache disappeared and vertigo started to go away. It was possibly due to dehydration, even though I drank a lot of water! Some people are not receptive to creatine and some are. In study vegetarians and particularly vegans are. It should not play out that way in theory as our bodies make it but it does in observational study. For many it works. I find a much greater than 2% boost when I first took it years ago. Since then I have been mostly on it and it takes a bit to drain out of the system after taking it. So not so noticeable now. But it is way cheap as supplements go. If exercising particularly resistance training I suggest trying it then not buying it again if you are a non responder, Heavy meat eaters tend to be the non responders.

Or instead of supplementing with synthetic creatine, you can eat Meat, Fish, Dairy, Eggs which will completely eliminate the need for supplementation. It’s always hilarious to watch a vegan youtuber to promote an essential nutrient that only exists in animal based diet. These type of nutrients is the strongest proof that humans have evolved to eat a primarily meat based diet and we can’t survive on a vegan diet unless you’re dependent on synthetic vitamins and minerals. Go on Simon, it’s fun to watch these contradictions in your nutrition philosophy with human evolution.
