The sound is fine. I thought I heard them say in that video that the tow trucks were also owned by their fire department specifically for this sort of event? I can't see them endangering members of the public with such a procedure, so it'd make sense that it's all in house for the tow trucks and drivers.

Manufacturers are not liable for damages that their products cause after purchase, unless gross negligence can be proven. NO, Tesla/porsche/chevy/etc are not going to pay for your burned down house. Please open your eyes to the truth through research about the reality of electric cars. Then spread that truth. We don’t need the governments spending their citizens money to force the production of dangerous, ineffective “environmental” transportation.

@DHW256
@DHW256 11 ай бұрын
@@Y2Kvids I've experienced many ICE car fires because I work on/restore very old, worn-out cars. I keep extinguishers in all my cars, including three new ICE cars, the older daily driver ICE car, and the two 100 year-old ICE cars. I've never had to call a fire department to help me with any car fire, and no ICE car fire has lasted more than a few seconds. Only once did one of those fires require a rated extinguisher, and it required a squirt lasting about 1/4 second. It's almost infinitely easier to extinguish an ICE fire than it is an EV fire, because agents have almost immediate access to ICE car fire fuels. Sadly, firefighters typically have ZERO access to fuel sources in EVs, so the dominate methodology for dealing with EV fires is to "let them burn themselves out." In other words, comparing ICE car fires to EV car fires is like comparing apples to buffalo turds. This problem has been widely known for many decades now. Seeing how Ford was forced to recall about 15 million ICE cars due to an electrical problem that _could_ cause a fire, I think it's time to recall the EVs that carry the inherent risk of fire due to faulty design. Oh, wait, that would require all EVs and their battery components to be recalled!, and there's no fix for them!

As opposed to exhaust fumes from the numerous other vehicles? While covered in the fire blanket and moving, the fumes are probably barely, if at all, making it into your vehicle. The initial fire did more harm, fume wise, to the neighborhood and it's residents than traffic along its route. Fumes aside, moving it while thermal runaway is a possibility, is very risky.

The tow truck would not be picking the vehicle up unless the insurance company has already seen the car and completed their paperwork. If the tow truck were to get in an accident with a burned out vehicle, the insurance would still pay for the burned car as it was more than likely already totaled by the insurance company. The one thing nobody seems to talk about is fumes from the EV fires. It has all the same issues that a normal car has with fumes plus the batteries fumes. The fumes from the batteries is so much more toxic than normal car fires that it needs to be dealt with instead of humans breathing it not know how bad the fumes are for them. Then in years or decades they have breathing issues from this toxic brew. I like the idea of EV's but we are so far from doing it right. It kills me that we are pushing so hard when we do not have the batteries or infrastructure to handle EV's. Its almost like the politicians have mone in the EV companies and are pushing them at all cost! ;(

I searched the internet recently for any legislation pending or already enacted, concerning the charging of EVs in multi-family buildings. I live in southern California, an area where Teslas are very popular and the state government is "all in" for making EVs the only ride in town. So, I guess I shouldn't have been too surprised that nobody in our legislative houses has even considered the danger. Instead, I found legislation written, or passed, demanding the existing apartment complexes, and such, provide community charges somewhere in the public parking areas and any new construction will have it incorporate charging facilities into the overall plan. I live in an HOA and we do have several homeowners that charge in their garages at night. Our buildings are 8 units each with shared walls. We have a lot of couples starting their families, five or six babies born recently. Scheduled for tonight's HOA meeting is a discussion on proposed amendments to the CCR concerning EVs and the charging issues. A preview of what that involves includes increased insurance liability for homeowners insurance (at their expense) if they park and charge inside the garage. The state may be AWOL on the issue but HOAs and insurance companies are not.

The lesson here is to think very carefully before buying an EV. Be aware of the risks of garaging and charging in your home and make sure your smoke alarms are properly installed and working. Then ask yourself this question … is buying an EV a good idea and worth the risk? The probability of your EV destroying itself in a toxic volcano is low , but the consequences are potentially catrostrophic.

(first fire) I understand that the blanket was left on to protect other exposures. Judging by the snow on the ground, I think if I could safety remove the blanket I would ASAP. It will help cool down everything instead of "acting like a blanket" and holding the heat in the battery. I realize than the blanket does nothing for the chemical reaction. I am looking forward to more experience on what the best thing to do. I also think that batteries fire responses will be different under different weather conditions too. Another thing to remember is that road salt and water is highly conductive and may make EV likely to short out faster than on a dry summer day if evolve in a car accident. Is there a site with a database examining the conditions of EV fires and what worked best or best practices so far?

@@jdgvee9313 Think about that for a second. I agree for the first day or two. But how is everything else going to catch on fire again if it is allowed to cool down removing one leg of the old fire triangle? The batteries are going to flare up with or without the blanket. Once the car is put in a safe place does it matter if the batteries cause "everything" to finish burning? Maybe the response should be to bring a liquid oxygen truck and turn the fire into a pretty blue flame to ensure complete combustion and be done with in an hour or two.

Problem with EV is everyone thinks "EV, Go Green" but they don't understand the battery technology or electrical knowledge. This means that owners are driving spontaneous fires on wheels without even knowing amp ratings for extension cords, load on outlets, not to charge their cars in garages, or even how to escape their cars in case of total electrical failure (locks are electrical).

Oh, and believe me, as a handyman, I see so many code issues/violations in garages where someone has modified the existing outlets, lights, etc. I have seen inside a neighbor's garage where, to reach some additional attic space, someone removed a large swath of the fire rated drywall. Scary stuff, and consider too, the blowtorch created by some of these EV fires essentially negates the hour burn through originally expected with thicker fire proof drywall.

The firefighters did a great job. In terms of damage to the houses, it looks similar to an ICE car fire probably because they were able to get the HV battery out of the garage. Definitely bad to use a long high gauge extension cord mangled with a bunch of other wires. Use a GFI on the circuit for 120V. Regardless of ICE or BEV, there is a risk with a car in an attached garage but a BEV is less likely to catch fire.

So of these 3 examples, one was a known defective car, and the other two were bad wiring unrelated to the car. If charging, you have continuous draw, which means you should only run 80% of the capacity of the circuit. I hardwired a 48A charger on a 60A circuit. Very simple.

I really do not understand how people can use cheap no-name extension cords that sometimes even have a lower power rating than the fuse behind the outlet. Duh that will burn. My extension cords, i use many, never any of those got warm on high load. But i make sure the capacity is correct and check regularly for damage. And replace them when they get really old (rubber/plastic degrades over time).
@BriBCG
@BriBCG 11 ай бұрын
Extension cords that can't handle the full capability of the rest of the system and don't even have a fuse to prevent overheating shouldn't be legal. So many people buy them because they're the cheaper option without understanding the risks. Instead the solution has been to plaster warnings 'do not use this device with an extension cord' over everything instead of actually fixing the root problem.

When you get an error like this, only audio on the left side, it is usually because microphones are mono and the video is stereo. So the KZbinrs have to copy the mono track into both left and right of the stereo channel, failing that it goes mono on KZbin. Just wish KZbin would have had a fix to force that mono channel to stereo per video.

This channel can potentially become a powerful resource for fire/EV safety. There are a lot of EV car fan channels out there, but many hesitate to address the safety/ danger factors. When they do, most try to downplay it or shift the blame. Safety rules are written in blood, as we say in the industry I am part of. My next car will likely be an EV, and I've made this channel and John Cadogan's two of my sources of information in making my decisions on a path forward.

If it hasn't already happened, you can bet insurance companies soon won't provide coverage if tow companies retrieve a burned EV or maybe even ALL EV's due to the risk of spontaneous fires. Same goes with junkyards and storage facilities. Not only will the have to isolate junked EV's due to possible spontaneous combustion, the batteries are consider toxic, hazardous waste and have highly-expensive, intricate EPA disposal requirements. No junkyard will want any EV's.
