thanks miss Lee , it made my whole bow so much more stable and the shakiness went away after using the weight of my arm

I love your anthology of "channeling"- a much more fluid description of arm weight. Relaxed, dead arm weight needs to be employed, but the actual amount used during the bow stroke varies. If I'm understanding, lifting the elbow at the tip adds weight with slight rotation of forearm transferring the needed weight to the index finger. Lifting the elbow again at the frog isn't to add weight, but to be able to lift the wrist slightly and then and turn the stick to use more of the bow edge (?). Trying to understand how the same action of raising the elbow adds weight to the tip but reduces weight at the frog. Thanks for an informative video!

Dear P, You're most welcome and thank you also. Very good question you brought it up. You are correct. With raised right elbow near the tip we can make the bow heavier and with raised right elbow near the frog we can make the bow lighter, because they have different right wrist and right shoulder conditions. Near the tip, with raised right elbow, raised right shoulder and lowered right wrist, we can carry the arm weight into the bow, hence making the bow heavier. Near the frog, with raised right elbow, lowered shoulder and raised wrist, we can take the weight off the bow with raised wrist, but can not carry the arm weight onto the bow, because the channel of entire right arm, elbow and wrist is not straight enough. I hope this answers your question. Happy practising!

Hi Mrs joy,I have some question pls,when pulling a bow some people say that the bow should rest on the violin and our hand is just control ít move back and forward,is that true? Or i should imagine the bow is grabbing the string and my hand fully control it
@JoyLeeViolin
@JoyLeeViolin 2 жыл бұрын
Dear Hum, there are bow strokes which we need to hold the bow more actively such as multiple down bow strokes or spiccato among others. But when you are playing long beautiful sustaining notes (legato), it would be better to let the bow sit on the string, and your would guide the bow with some adjustment on RH. Happy practising!
