These children are full of an inflated ego, which is why they feel they have the right to take whatever they want from others without consequences, so “poor self esteem” is not the problem here. It’s unbelievable that you actually think it is, since these teenagers are raging narcissists. They have plenty of “self-love”, but they don’t care about their fellow humans at all. If these teenagers had been raised in stable, disciplined homes, by parents who taught them right from wrong, and allowed them to endure the negative consequences of doing wrong as they grew up, society wouldn’t be having teenage crimes skyrocketing. If there were more stable homes with active fathers in their children’s lives, society wouldn’t be having this problem. Sorry if some people don’t like that last statement, but from my own experience growing up, orders from my dad, and my mom telling me to do the same thing, hit different. Daddy didn’t need to speak but one time, and I was on it. Mom might repeat herself 2 or 3 times before I finally went about doing what she was asking. My dad never had to spank me one time. There’s just something about a dad’s discipline that impacts their children more. The problem is a lack of discipline, a lack of responsible parenting, a lack of stability in the home, and the mind-rotting effects of the internet on our youth, and a failure to properly prosecute youth offenders with sentences that actually deter them from repeating their crimes, has led to this moraIly ßankrupt younger generation who commit crimes against others without a care in the world, because they are too egotistic to care about how they hurt others. If anything, they have an over-inflated sense of self-worth, which is why they feel like they have a right to steal and do whatever they want. They need to be knocked back to reality, and be prosecuted as adults, and spend a few decades thinking about the life choices that landed them in prison. If the parents failed to do their job and discipline them, then the court system must step in and let the penal system teach these young people that negative actions result in negative consequences. They need to understand that their young age does not mean that they are above the law, and they can do whatever they want without suffering the consequences.

I 100% believe that parents SHOULD be charged with child neglect AND with whatever crime their child is charged with- IF it's proven they were neglectful parents and didn't bother curtailing their childs behavior!!! I DO understand we as parents aren't always responsible for our kids - when our son was 12 he got into trouble with 2 other friends he'd met at school breaking into a pop machine - they all got charged and were ordered to repay the business a third of the damages - our son is the only one who repayed them - his dad marched him down to the business to personally tell them what he'd learned from what he'd done, he apologized , then AFTER he earned the money himself to pay them back, he did volunteer work (slightly persuaded by us) for them all the rest of his summer vacation!!!
