I had a man drive all the way from his home in Valencia to Madrid, Spain where I lived for our FIRST date. (A four hour drive.) It went so well that he repeatedly made the drive and even stayed with family in Madrid for extended periods so we could be together every day. All the while he was paying rent on a place in Valencia and finishing up his last semester of grad school there. Yeah, if he's into you, he will find a way to be with you. :) :) :)

Dear Matthew, I recently began watching your videos, and the advice you share has been very insightful and helpful to me. There have been a few times in the past few weeks where I had the opportunity to exercise putting forth my standards in a confident, competent, and kind manner. The reactions I received by the men I communicated with made it clearer to me that they are not the sort of people I wish to spend my time with because it seemed as though they really were looking for the fast food dating experience I didnt want any part of. For a long time, without knowing it, I was the overly sweet person who went along with whatever the person I was dating at the time, wished to do or asked of me. I couldnt understand why no matter how sweet I was or willing to go about things their way, I did not feel respected or valued. I was afraid if I voiced my boundaries or unwillingness to go about things their way, that they would abandon me. It really affected my self-esteem, and I felt like I didnt know who I was or why I was allowing others to dictate everything. It feels good to set boundaries now, in a blissful fashion, as you would put it. It can be hard sometimes, because it feels out of character for me to do. But I would rather be in the company of a high-value man who respects my boundaries because I am a high-value woman who would respect their boundaries as well. Please keep the vidoes coming, they really are helpful and funny! :) Thank you so much, Matthew! Sincerely, Sarrah

Good to see these kind of videos again with practical advice (we seemed to have a change of pace for a while). I've seen some comments saying "if you call someone out it'll scare them off". Yes, that may be true. But do you want that kind of guy? The guy that rises to a playful challenge is the kind that women with standards want. It gives them the feeling of chasing you, which is attractive. They enjoy the chase. If he's scared off? Leave him. Move on to someone who will find the fun in a challenge. It also helps you set out your expectations from the beginning, rather than being disappointed by his behaviour over and over again, and him being clueless as to why you're not happy (because you didn't communicate your standards from the outset). And to be honest, this goes across both genders, it's not always necessarily gender specific. People sometimes are clueless. Or perhaps so many others have accepted less, that it seems ok to them. At least if we do our bit in communicating what we want, need and deserve, it goes some way to preventing misunderstanding and unhappiness.

I appreciate your commitment to empower women and inspire them to be more confident using a non-violent communication instead than a passive-aggressive reaction (excellent marketing strategy) but I truly believe that in order to build a healthy long-term relationship based on shared values a mutual empathy is more important than trying to play with someone's mind to bring the best out of them. Men and women can be encouraging with each other without trying to control their free will using tricks because on a deeper level it shows that we don't trust them enough to meet our standards. One of the most romantic thing that my boyfriend told me is: "We are a great team." Keep up the good work Matthew, I look forward to seeing more when you will take it to the next level. P.S. A man or a woman is not just a date or a bridge towards our personal fulfilment. If we embrace our vulnerability and become aware of our journey then we will be able to welcome a relationship that is aligned to our spiritual growth.

I think the 3 messages are okay, but could come off as a little bitchy, I think there's a way to communicate your standards whilst avoiding that. Scenario 1 - message is fine but I'd say overly sarcastic, kinda gives off bad vibes, something flirty like "surprise me" still implies you expect them to think of the date idea but its far less bitchy Scenario 2 - I like the second half of the message but the first half is kinda confrontational and seems like someone who's insulting you but trying to be playful to make you accept it. Simply shortening it to "Isn't it your turn to come to me *kissy face*" Still communicates standards but without the insult. Scenario 3 - I like this message for the most part, and the premise works, I just think the phrasing could be better: "Hey you, are we still on for tonight? Otherwise..." then insert an actual potential plan, rather than being vague which can come across like you're just pretending. Something like "My friends been pestering me to do X" works well. The trick here, and with all interactions where you hope to convey your standards, is to genuinely have something else you can be doing. Being a high-status, desirable woman who isn't just waiting around for a man to make her life interesting. This way the standards you're conveying are congruent with your life, and don't seem false or bitchy. The man will either be like... "oh shit.... better step up my game" or lose interest, in which case you've not settled for someone you didn't want to be with really anyway. This is the essence of confidence, being able to say, I'll be alright whichever way this goes because I'm good on my own. It forms relationships based on two awesome independent people coming together rather than co-dependancy.

I know, but in my humble opinion I think those messages were already nice enough. I don't see why the sender regardless of gender has to improve their communication especially since it's the other party that is failing to rise to the occasion. It's so true though that it's kind of a pink flag. Honestly I think if a relationship has to reach that point where someone has to send such texts is a dealbreaker anyways. Thanks for replying and sharing your experience hahah :)
@MHSlypher17 жыл бұрын
bustednebs You're obviously entitled to your opinion, and perhaps those who agree with you won't listen to my advice. I'm just providing my stance and opinion, with alternatives based on that. I think everyone has bad days where they may fail to rise to the occasion, sure if it's a pattern stop communicating with them, but on the off occasion, I'd rather be equipped to effectively communicate my standards in a way that encourages attraction. Generally, I think we should all be striving to improve our communication skills in life, being effective in your communication is a big part of how you get what you want in all aspects of life. I also don't think that taking a stance of, well the other person should have to change is necessarily healthy, as, regardless of where the blame actually lies, pragmatically, bettering yourself gets you the results you want more of the time.

I have been focusing on communicating boundaries all week and watching many of Matthews videos. I finally got to put it into practice tonight and it worked! There is always that FOMO you get when you know you have to communicate your boundary... I haven't been asked on a date in 9 months, and this guy asked 2 lines into the conversation to go out right then and there. I pushed back saying I had a phone call date with my best friend in another state, and he pushed back on me. I was careful to drop the right cues when pushing back myself. He tried again. I then said "if you don't want to keep chatting though and see me another time, I understand 😊". He said "of course I'm cool with that 🙂". I replied "great, I'll be sure to tell my friend I matched with a nice guy then 😉" and he said.... And I laughed and thought... Matthew would be so proud... "haha awesome! I'll tell mine that I matched with a good negotiator." 😅

A problem with this is that these messages are texts without tone of voice or any body language so they can be interpreted as completely bitchy if you don't know the persons true intentions and you don't know the person well enough to know what they mean.

I like the first response, however...On the first 3 dates with my (now) husband, I drove an hour to him. He had very elaborate dates planned for us each time though. He was super bad about telling me the time/details the day before. I waited until 7:30 or 8 pm and finally asked him if we were still on for tomorrow or not. Then we discussed times. By date 4, he drove down to me and asked me to be his gf. The rest is history! I wanted to let him lead

After watching text #3, I had to get up, and give you a little standing ovation for that one. Just. . . *applauds* man that's good one. And then the cherry on top would be making back up plans, like there really is something else going on that's cool and you wanted to go check out, so then you're not just pretending to be cool and not sad, you really *are* cool and not sad.

Hi, there! Advice on this topic is needed. What about those guys who text you friendly, asking question, the conversation is fun and flows freely and is not forced, but then they can suddenly disappear in a mid-conversation and return IN A WEEK or a month as if nothing happened, and it repeats more than once? I'm not asking how to make them more interested in me or smth, I just want some advice on how to call them out in a classy way, and show them it's not ok behaviour. And it's not just about guys, some friends or just random people do it too, so advice would me much appreciated!
@kaleighmunsterman76917 жыл бұрын
Alena Ch when they come back as if to carry on the conversation you can say something like "sorry, it's been so long since we've talked I'm confused by what you mean" "or playfully say something like "hey stranger/long time no talk; we'll have to do better to talk more often. I value consistency in any current/future relationship " make it known that you are worthy of a stable relationship whether it is romantic or platonic because no one really wants to be confused on when ppl will walk into/out of their lives at the drop of a dime. That plays into loyalty too... you want ppl who have your best interest at heart not someone who is going to use you for their pleasure or out of boredom.
@pakyzabibi69917 жыл бұрын
Alena Ch I have the same problem. An advice would be really useful for the kind of behavior.
@nekomitaina7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for advice! The only thing, I do not want to look like I overreact or smth. Do not want to show that it hurts (and sometimes it really does). It bugs me the most when it is someone who was really interested in conversation in the beginning (or at least seemed so), and particularly when the person knows me in real life, and we are in good relationship. I do not understand what makes them to leave in the middle of the conversation, especially when they just asked me a bunch of questions, apparently eager to talk. When I am in a conversation with a friend or someone I like, I feel it natural to write back as soon as I see the message on the screen, and not wait until tomorrow or the next week. When they do this, I feel like they deliberately want to show me that our conversation does not really matter.
@Chizuruchibi7 жыл бұрын
+Alena Ch I think Kaleigh Munsterman's messages are great to send, especially the first one. And you know, he may or may not interpret your message however he pleases, but personally I think you shouldn't have to worry about that. Does he worry that he comes off as a flaky, unreliable guy when he disappears? Why should you worry about sounding too angry? (and the message is perfectly civil, so it shouldn't be taken like that, really). Also worth wondering if it's even worth entertaining thought about such a guy. Maybe you could watch the video where Matt talks about a toxic guy, the "MPI" (minimum possible investment) guy.
@amelelk6197 жыл бұрын
You should take the phone and CALL, maybe the person doesn't like to spend minutes to respond when it's easier and faster to tell it with a call directly. Personnaly I don't like the phone, I text to have a quick answer and I call when it's to long to have it in a message. A relationship is built in face to face and not with a phone between the two person. I think you don't have to take it personnally
