Must say, my favourite Hermitcraft work I've heard of yours is the Dwarven Folk song for Impulse. That jangly 12 string, the lift to the major key in the the chorus and resolution back to the minor, the 6/8 was also the perfect meter. All that aside, it's melodically perfect too. There is so much economy in that melody, every note is essential, and there's not one that doesn't have to be there. Note value in a melody is everything to me, especially with such a diatonic note choice, and this is just bang on. I'm not sure if you realise how good it is, but you should take a bow for that one.

Your song “Work” was what brought me to your channel. Sure, you were the “Hermitcraft Soundtrack Guy” and Ren’s little brother, but what really pulled me in to your music was the raw talent I heard that song you wrote for Grian. As a creative person, I've started and stopped businesses no end of times because the hardest thing to cope with isn't failure, it's success. You market yourself or your product and the most terrifying thing is people actually wanting it. Too many people wanting it. Success is difficult without a very strong foundation and preparation. I often think this about people who blow up suddenly for something - I feel sorry to see them struggle. But whatever you do, keep doing what you do, you are doing a wonderful job. :) xxx

Thank you so much for this comment - I resonate so deeply with what you have said, thank you also for sharing your experience. I think these words can provide encouragement and wisdom to a number of creatives/entrepreneurs as in the modern landscape, I believe we have to be entrepreneurs to succeed (just my opinion). It’s difficult as the worlds are so different, and I have grappled with finding a balance over the past three years. Another tough lesson to learn (especially in LA) is that people ask the question ‘can it be sold and how’. This is totally against ‘art’, art is not a product - but somehow we have to commodify our art. My hero is Frank Zappa - not only was he a genius musician, but also a savvy business person who was able to make a living off of his bizarreness. I want to be like him. Sorry for my ramble - I appreciate your comment. Jono

Heh, Love the fact Hermitcraft is referenced as an MMORPG. That's brilliant :) Honestly, these insights have been amazing. I've been trying to create for the longest time, and being able to recognize the value of slow growth and not using the numbers as a reflection of yourself is important. Thank you for this awesome comment, I’m thrilled that you found it insightful and encouraged to hear that you are reflecting on these points. @JONOsmithers Жыл бұрын
It can be incredibly discouraging - but in a weird way that makes it even more of a privilege to be a creative. It’s why it’s not for everyone, it’s truly difficult - but with every ‘failure’ we are only made stronger, wiser, and in the end - our belief in ourselves grows. For a long time it feels like we are the only ones that believe it, but your belief in you is your most valuable superpower. The world will catch up in time - you just keep improving with every attempt and watch what happens. All my love!

If you follow your heart alone, then you'll get lost and confused and have a hard time making your way back, but if you use your head alone then you can leave who you are behind and end up doing something that sounds good but leaves you empty inside. It's 6am as I write this. Suffering another sleepless night due to anxiety mixed with a sleep disorder. I clicked on this video which had been in my "watch later" playlist for a while now, expecting something silly, lighthearted and entertaining, considering I know of your relation to RenDog and the fun jingles for Grian as mentioned at the start of the video. I figured it was time to learn more about who was behind them and show some support. I wasn't expecting something so profound and intelligent, or to come away feeling a sense of peace with myself after taking everything in. I, too, am an artist - a storyteller in the most literal sense. I'm a novelist. And I just spent the day completely revising my submission to approach literary agents with after having it rejected for two years. So you can imagine I was lying here feeling dejected, downtrodden, hopeless... and I figured that would all just be something I would have to simply get over, as I have many times before since no words tend to help. But instead, I feel better now. Your video helped. Thank you. Thank you so much. Have my like, my comment and my subscription. I'm sorry they haven't come sooner.

Hey, I like your set up! How do you like the Adam's monitors? I have a pair of the 8's myself, and love the smooth top end, but wish the mids were more present (really good for the price though!).
@JONOsmithers Жыл бұрын
Hey! Thanks for the comment, the 7s were my first speakers and have served me well since my college days! I actually got them because my best friend was using them and I thought they were awesome - great for the price too, but certainly lacking in some facets (I didn’t know at that time). I still use them on every mix…

@@JONOsmithers I've found if using room correction eq, but without correcting the crossover frequencies (2-3k) you can get back a bit of that upper mid bite they are lacking when eq'd flat. As something weird happens when you eq them flat in that crossover range with the phase I think. I hounestly don't think you can get a better pair of monitors in this price bracket tho (was like £200 each, that's stupidly cheap for monitors). 👍

clever and lovely - well done.. but also say yes to most things and you might get lucky..even if you dont think you are ready.. talent is not often a precursor to success.. it will however allow you to be successful in the real world so be the best at what you do and if you arn't mumbo or grian (epic victims of circumstance) be as good as you can be with what ever you are doing and you will be fine xxx

Wow you even sound a lot like your brother ren. Just his voice has a slightly deeper tone to it. Could very easily probably get the 2 of them mixed up in a group call

I love that you were able to learn from your experiences working with the hermtcraft crew. I was hooked on your music since hearing work for the first time. If there were a longer version of that song, I'm not sure I'd be able to take take it off repeat

"3 Things I wish I knew before Hermitcraft" "So, the first thing is that I wish I just knew more about Hermitcraft" you can just end the video there

I know the timeline because i was religiously watching every Mumbo video (but seldom watched any Grian video in it's first week of release) thus I'm not sure if i ever have even heard any if the 3 tunes... (horse neigh DOESN'T sound familiar) i think I followed you maybe a year or two later (maybe you have my subscribed anniversary date?) i only know you're talented because i did subscribe (it wouldn't have just been because Ren told "me" to subscribe) (i'm not a "blind follower") anyway, my point, don't value yourself on others motives, your value is because your contributions to others lives....

This is great, and his work is incredible, but I really don’t like the moral at the end, which is “don’t make art with passion, just become a slave to the algorithm” ‘, :/

Jono, not related to topic, but where did you get the sample for Fast and Furihorse from? Troyboi used it in a song and it is currently blowing up, its even in EA FC 24! I broke out in laughter after hearing the sample there xD
@JONOsmithers Жыл бұрын
I believe I found it on a platform called ‘Splice’ where you are able to access samples - I had no idea that it had been used in all of these songs!!! That’s hilarious!

Every episode of season 8 intro and outro, Timelapse season 7, lots in season 7. I did the Hermitcraft theme song, Doc’s songs, REN’s songs, Scar’s intro, the Hermitcraft theme song and the moon animation!!!

I found you because of the themes you made for hermitcraft. Keep up all the great work. I remember reading a quote attributed to Tom Clancy “it takes 10 years are hard work to become an overnight success” I think he underestimated the years. The grind is real.

At the end of the day, there is no timeline in life - we are all doing our best, learning lessons and growing along the way. We can’t get discouraged by the others, or when things don’t seem to be moving. We HAVE to create stuff to be happy, and it’s a privilege to do so. My love to you!
