A normal blood pressure used to be 150/90 especially for the elderly. It isn't until recently that the medical profession has lowered that so that now they are prescribing a lot more blood pressure meds,

Exactly why I won't worry until my BP goes over 150/90 and STAYS THERE...Also why I refused the Lisinopril that a random doc tried to prescribe without knowing ANY of my history. Why is it such a "knee jerk" answer for doctors to just prescribe the problem away as soon as the number is over a limit that was lowered???

@@green2red Modern medicine is a cult. The cult needs/wants/loves money. Doctors and NPs are brainwashed to prescribe meds. Once they have you on meds, you have to keep coming back to renew your prescription and get more meds (win/win for them and Fat Pharma). If there are side effects to these meds, do not worry, they have drugs for that, also. Do not finance the cult. Stay healthy.
@green2red3 жыл бұрын
@@jerrygordon8103 Yes, they make drugs for the "side effects" of other drugs ...and Lisinopril/blood pressure meds are one of the biggest examples. Right behind diabetes meds(metformin anyone?). Not gonna lie I'm overweight, but I'm not diabetic and my BP isn't crazy high, but Docs take one look at me and salivate over what they think they can prescribe to bring on side effects so they can prescribe more and keep me medicated for life. I'll keep saying NO firmly until I'm told I'll "die without it"...and even then, I'll be skeptical. Fat Pharma won't be lining their pockets with me.

I've been showing signs of hypertension. But the nurse at my doctor's office always takes my BP w the machine. My doctor comes in, sits down, engages me in small talk & takes my BP the old school way. By this time my BP has dropped to normal, so he diagnosed it as stress induced by the actual doctor's office visit! Apparently, waiting in the waiting room, thinking about all the bad things that might be discovered causes stress. But talking baseball w the doctor reduces stress. Go figure!

I do my BP at home and have done it going up my steps to the second floor and once during a Deadlift. I work out at home. Everything he says is true. You just change the position you are sitting and it will change. If you want an accurate reading, try to do it at the same time of day and wait 5 to 10 minutes after you sit down before you take it. You will find it fluctuates all day depending on what you are doing. Thanks for the video.

Thank you for your suggestions and the way they're delivered in a steady, helpful way. Thank you for making this. I am 51 and I moved to a new city about 10 years ago which means I got a new doctor. I'm generally healthy but 6'8" tall and not overweight. Quite literally, as far back as I can remember, my blood pressure has been "a little high". Even as a 10 year old I can remember our doctor saying "His BP is a little on the high side, but not off that charts". It has been a broken record and to this day I'm considered "pre-hypertension" and my doctor has been wanting to put me on meds and I'm resistant. I'm hoping that after 10 years of it just being "sorta high" he will believe me that it's always been like that. Hoping I'm not crazy for preferring to let my body be normal/non-medicated as long as it's not a sustained true HIGH BP.

In early 2020 I caught Covid with only a fever that lasted 6 hours as a symptom. I couple years ago at 28, I went to the ER to get antibiotics because I had been bit by my cat. The nurse there took my BP and it was 163/95. She told me it was high and I should see my doctor for that. So I decided to test my BP at home, everyday for the next month. It was high everytime I took it with the average around 140/90. When I went to my doctor she told me to retake it but only 3 times a week and 3 times in a row. But I had also asked to take anti-anxiety meds while I was there as it was something we had talked about before. After taking Zoloft, my blood pressure consistently improved and I managed to get it down to 120/80 in just a couple weeks. When I stop taking it my BP increases again. I did find out I have a heart murmur at that appointment, which took me by surprise because no doctor has told me that before. Still waiting for an echocardiogram.

I went in to get a pre-op medical clearance and ended up with a script for BP meds I refuse to take and an EKG that was normal. I was never given the opportunity to be quiet for 5 mins. MA checked my weight, sat at the computer started talking to me and placed the cuff on my arm. I suffer from white coat syndrome so of course the reading was high. The doc comes in talks to me about the high reading, had me sit on the bed with my feet barely touching the step and took my BP…arm hanging down. The medical professionals do not follow the same protocol they give you to monitor your BP at home. - At least five mins of quiet - Both feet on the floor - Cuffed arm in-line with the heart - No talking - Back against the back of the chair And so on… The way things look now I am never going get medical clearance…what a travesty. Kind of pissed off…

If I take my blood pressure with a watch that measures BP I typically come up with 110/70 yet if a doctor tries to measure it, the machine will usually go into error or will try to cut my arm off. Barring that, it will come up with something stupid like 220/140, A doctor manually will usually come up with something in the neighborhood of 180/135. I am also a victim of the insane quest to get my BP down to the holy grail 120/80 I bear the scars from the damage to my body done by the Ace Inhibitor Enalapril. I am now 80 and I refuse to take any BP control medication.

When I was visiting Los Angeles a few years ago, there was a "Scientology Building" (on Hollywood Blvd) where they actually had a gauge which measured your stress levels which actually worked. They asked me to think of something that was the most traumatic in my life, and the needle in the gauge began to rise. As I relaxed, it went slightly down (in real-time), and then when I began to refocus on the memory, it began to rise again. I didn't buy their $50 book they were trying to sell me (their stress machine was part of a sale's pitch), but that was an interesting experience.

A pal of many years in our old line of work with London's Met. Police used to say "Avoid stress" and although it was a long term jokey thing between us, I certainly go along with it. Some folk seen genetically disposed towards its existence - a sort of "worry" syndrome that is a negative rather than positive attitude....prone to dwelling on the downsides of life and "what ifs". My own BP has remained high over many years despite losing (intentionally) forty pounds bodyweight over a period of retirement diet adjustment, and I've now added magnesium citrate and beet powder as health supplements. I feel fine within myself despite the ongoing observational concerns of my local health care assistant during annual checks, dealing with lumbar spinal stenosis and an original diagnosis of atrial fibrillation for which medication was prescribed and is still ongoing although a later check said I was "asymptomatic" with regard to the latter. Once on that medical merry-go-round, it's hard to get off!!

I'm usually 115-135/75-85 during daytime. I was taking losartan 100mg and amlodipine 5mg. Since I went on low carb, intermittent fasting 16/8, I was able to maintain my blood pressure with just losartan 25mg and amlodipine 2.5mg. Also I feel much better, sleep really well and do not notice my blood pressure is high until I test it. (Before low carb and IF - I would feel bad right away if my BP is higher, or not get a good nights sleep). Often times I have to take another 25mg/2.5mg if it stays 140/90 during the night time (the around 3 days a week BP stays high during nightime). The following morning my BP would usually be much lower - maybe because I took more than my usual dose of medication the night before.

I smoked, I drank alcohol, I ate too much (no processed foods though), yada, yada. So I did have a heart attack. Did he ever smirk over that! And I had another incident and was given a CAT scan. Turns out I have a condition called fibromuscular displaysia, probably hereditary. There was no way on earth my blood pressure could be normal. And I question whether blood pressure has any real importance. Maybe my blood pressure has to be high in order for the blood to flow through the narrowed arteries. And here I sit taking 3 blood pressure medications and my pressure is still (clinically) too high for most doctors. BTW, I have always looked healthier than by GP. One checkup, my husband actually asked him was was wrong with him.

When an MD tells you you have "High Blood Pressure" you should ask "WHY". Have them address the "WHY" not just give you BP Meds that artificially alter the functions of the Body. Your Blood Pressure is "High" because your Brian is instructing your associated Organs to make it that way.....for a REASON. Also, has anyone ever seen any credible evidence or long range studies that show that pressure in the 140s or even 150s is harmful? Seen stuff on 160 being the trigger point for capillary damage but not under that. Any studies??? If you find any please post. Some people have legitimate disorders that need to be controlled until the root cause is found. But the wholesale prescribing of meds to keep everyone at 120 lines the pocket of the Pharmaceutical companies and then cause a cascade of side effects for which of course there is another med to take. Ever wonder why people start off with one BP Med and then after a while have to add a second , then a third etc etc. It's because your brain is initiating a "Workaround" on the meds to bring your BP back up, for a reason. The Reason might be OK for you or due to Dysfunction. If its an identifiable Dysfunction - it is the Dysfunction that should be treated and the BP will return to proper range.(YOUR proper range) Funny how BP of 135-140 was just fine in healthy people in the 1940s and 1950s but somehow pharmaceutical company funded studies slowly keep changing the goal posts. Further - Have not ever seen an MD who actually knows how to take BP properly - feet and legs always dangling off the exam table during physicals and them holding your arm out. Not Correct. Any of them take an inventory of what you ate in the last 48 hrs? Or during a normal week? Do they ask WHEN you eat? How much water you drink? Soda? Coffee? Sports drinks, other crap? All too ready with the prescription pads. And when was the last time an MD asked "when was your last Chiropractic Exam" Upper Cervical misalignment can cause an elevated BP. Assuming your mind is in order and you don't eat packaged and processed foods (80 percent of the average food store) the only MEDs most people should need are: M=Move more. E= Eat less. D= Drink more water. Your diet, activity and mental state has everything to do with your health. Educate yourself on real and proper Nutrition and timing of meals. I visit my MD only once a year for a Routine Physical just so I have an MD in case I need to get hospitalized from a biological /viral hazard. I visit my Chiropractor twice a month for routine adjustments to stay healthy. Just like any other fine expensive machine the better the maintenance and the fuel the less likely it will break down. My DC takes care of Alignment and I take care of Fuel

A Dr told me to write down my BP.. .so I did about every half hr. for 2 weeks. The highest was watching TV and driving. I yet to find a Dr who can help with stress levels....even if they prescribe natural remedies.

Some MDs have told me not to do BP measurements at home. They are like a mechanic who tells you to ignore the oil pressure gauge on your car. Just bring it in if you see smoke coming out of the hood.
@nataliejohnson43663 жыл бұрын
Don’t do it home because when YOU do it, you put the cuff on snug and get a true reading.. when they do it, they put it on loose and the number goes up ! Hmmm. Learned that from a paramedic- someone who doesn’t profit from your bp
@malcolmmarzo24613 жыл бұрын
@@nataliejohnson4366 Good observation. Clinics tend to do BP readings sloppily. I have had very suspiciously high readings with the old fashioned devices and had them re-do it with an electronic meter. Then I got readings that agreed with my home meters.

The only way to really look at BP is to do 24hour monitoring. Drs don't do it enough or anymore. Easier to treat you and label you. The night time resting BP is a true indication of how your heart is doing or the damage down from a continued high BP. As patients why don't we demand this 24 hour monitoring.

Very cool Thanks! Just subscribed. Soon to be 66 y/o man, 6'3" 260...bmi 33? So I have some work to do. So years ago, I dealt with syncope; b/p was VERY low, so low if I stood up I got dizzy. Now I am 187, 190/100. I'm over-weight (from beer mostly) and I have zero energy.

I asked my doctor about why they lowered the national average blood pressure numbers in the USA. (not in Europe) Crickets... my blood pressure always goes up at the Dr Office. They don't even know how to really take your blood pressure accurately. The new machines they use are terrible and then they want to take it again in 3 minutes. I've had numbers as high as 210 over 180. Seriously? I've been prescribed BP meds, not taking it and I feel fine. They are not good for you at all. I tried, terrible side effects. My daughter in law has real low blood pressure. They didn't offer anything to raise it. Hmmm, how does that not matter? Every body is different, no set of charts can fit every person perfectly. Life, Liberty and Death. Only 1 is guaranteed, the rest are choices.

I took some natural antioxidants, it raised my blood pressure to eliminate the toxins out of my system., meaning that if our body is toxic it’s the natural way of eliminating it faster but it causes damage to our arteries if we have blocked arteries, capillaries and weak veins. Eat healthy…..

Thanks for the common sense information which seems intuitive. Nothing stays the same and everything is changing all the time. Even rocks move throughout the earth. The only thing certain is that nothing is certain.
