Another good one people get caught on is not watching center mass of the ball handler and watching ball instead. The ball and head can only go so far without the body

YES! That's how you get your ankle broken and laying on the hardwood, in shame and everyone laughing at you! LOL I would always ignore razzle dazzle and keep my eyes on their belly button.

Best tips I have: Active hands Be physical Beat them to their spot Front bigger player in the post If someone has a big mismatch on you in the post, and they are lowering their shoulder then flop as soon as contact is made Bother the shooting pocket

Bet if there guarding you with a completely turned foot, blow by the other way, they will have to turn around giving you two steps on them at least

@@SimpleEats35 it’s not there full stance, you will notice and and have to react in a split second, the most common time I’ve seen it is after they run up on a pump fake then hop back to get into position 👍

@@qwertyzxcvbn3174 but it does though. It means be more active in your defense, more movement, instead of just trying to survive and not get scored on. Mindset matters. Charles Barkley said his rebounding went way up when instead of just trying to get the ball he got way more aggressive and went for rebounds like his life depended on it.

Damn, there was this huge kid who was fast asf in gym class. I’m the best defender but I couldn’t stop him once. After a few of these tips, (especially the last one), I was able to stop him, the only time he got thru was when his teammate gave him a luckily angled screen.

Being ambidextrous and running a 4.2 in the 40 yrd you CANNOT speed someone up or make them move at your pace no matter if you try to dictate where they’re going. Your third tip should’ve been watching the chest instead of watching the ball

Another tip: Always anticipate your opponents dribble move, keep an eye on the ball incase you see an opening, that opening allows you to get an easy steal.

Watching the ball is how u get ur ankles snatched. I agree, don't ignore the ball in case there's an opening, but don't be staring at the ball either

Yeah nah watch the hips so you don't get crossed, use your peripherals to snatch the ball. If your gonna steal try to time it on a down dribble because they can't touch it again until it bounces or that's a double dribble

I started to angle myself while gaurding and it seriously helps so much. You can move better and it pisses off the offensive player. Im a solid guy too so when they try to bump me or get physical Im still in the same place. If theyre bigger than me i just sit on their dominant hand with my other hand high. They be gettin so mad n im just laughing in my head😂

Also do not react to every dribble move it will cause wear and tear on your ankles and keep you off balance and if they drive past you guard them closely and if there is a lot of contact you can take an easy charge

Sometimes I put my hands on their upper back or hips like give it little push whey they try to escape. I can’t explain it really well but I keep doing it to the point they are tired of me and they just pass the ball

I used to always try the sideways dominant hand guarding tactic and I feel like if their a good ball handler it can just get you cooked even harder sometimes.

woah I didn't even think that I'm doing number 2 and 3 was a lockdown defense, I had to devise a defensive stance just like on number 2 but not trying to steals unless it's a clear get and also always widen up my feet to avoid getting ankles broken just like a crab and I called it crab defense, and number 3 is something I always does I intentionally let a blow by on the player and immediately chase down block it 😂

When you turn your hips on the first tip you got to turn your chest as well. Make them go right into your chest. You can get a lot of charges if you get that chest turned quick

I always use the third one with the ppl who plays always right or left dribble only. It always works that they always pass the ball before i clamp them. Im actually a offensive scorer and not playing serious defense because your stamina will drain faster, but when im bricking shots i usually dont do the offense and just be clamping who always scores.

1 on 1 defense can be easy. Deny them the easiest facet of attack which is an angle to the rim. Keep your hands low, trying to force a dribble mistake. Look at the ball and lower Center mass but don’t be glued to one spot. Always look and scan everywhere

Different ways to guard people, guarding a shooter just hang on they shooting arm, they’ll brick every shot, cut off passing lanes also
