As a defender I one hundred percent agree with this video. It becomes on both ends of the ball. The issue I have is that I am physical player and when introduce the contact (discipline non foul that is) the ball handler cries about it. There are definitely ways to get around a defender who uses contact. I’ve learned this as a both a defender and ball handler

@@stephentaylorjr7518 there’s a reason why basketball players hit the weight room. Being fast and skinny will not always make the cut.

The only way to get around a defender who uses contact, is to use contact yourself. (Apart from screens and give n go). Something I wish I'd realised earlier 😅

Last part! Sometimes as hoopers we feel like we need to score on the defender always. You're not going to beat every single defender in every single situation, everyone gets stopped at times it happens even to Bron, KD etc. Nothing wrong with passing the ball if someone is playing great defense, rather than over dribbling or forcing a tough shot. Also we tend to over look this but USE SCREENS to get tougher defenders off of you unless it's a 1v1 😭 (keep using them until you get the desired matchup if you must) its always so overlooked but can lead to so many easier buckets. W vid as always Coleman!

Thanks coach, i always had issues getting bullied by bigger and stronger defenders, but this helped me and I just recently crossed one of my friends which is a good defender. So thank you 🔥

The best way to score on defenders especially NBA elite level defenders such as Marcus Smart is to score off of the ball. Specifically, catch n shoot 3's off of close outs because the likelihood of him stripping the ball from you is very low in that situation. The reason for this is, you aren't necessarily putting the ball on the floor and further playing to their defensive strengths (containing the drive). Playing on the ball offence against a world class defender such as Marcus Smart however, poses a significant risk because his knowledge of the game, as well as speed make it very difficult to drive against him. This is why shooting off of the catch is arguably the most important skill in the game. It enables you to play in any system, as well as score on anybody regardless of how good their 1 on 1 defence is.

Great video as usual. A lot of the concepts are surely the same, but I’d like to see a similar video for getting open off the ball.

make a video on pre-planning moves vs improvising. for example I feel like a cross over for me at least is always almost pre planned, same with cross jab. but a scissor step, or hesi, I have more time to read the situation and either blow by one way or cross back the other way. how to find that balance?

I really think if you are a perimeter player against high level competition you need a certain level of quickness and/or strength that cant be overlooked. But of course you need high basketball iq as well.
