I was at a Range Rover dealer and never got the keys back after they appraised my trade. With the sales manager standing there I asked 3 times and was ignored. I excused myself, stepped outside and called the police. I went back in and about 3 minutes two officers walk in. I got up and escorted the officers to the desk, pointed at the sales manager and said he has my keys and won't give them back. The sales manager tripped over himself back to his desk to get my keys. As I followed the officers out the door, I apologized for calling them. They both said to me this is not the first time they've been called for something like this.

One trick similar to the keys ... my wife and I went into a dealer but didn't have a trade in. But, they took our driver's licenses to make a copy of them before the test drive. But, they never actually gave them back before we took the test drive. When we got back, the salesman started with the hard sell. We kept telling them we weren't interested in making a deal right then and there (we'd planned on going to multiple dealerships) but we couldn't leave right away because they were keeping our DLs hostage. We got passed to at least 2 other sales people and wasn't until we started getting angry with them that they finally gave them back.

Tell them to screenshot both sides of your driver’s license and that you never part with it. If they persist, tell them you’re going with them to the copy machine. If they still persist in walking away from you with your DL, tell them that they just lost your business and leave permanently.

I seldom make a decision on the spot, so I usually go home or to Starbucks and count the.cost of owning the car. One time when I did this, about an hour later the salesperson called and told me, in a very frantic voice, that if I wanted the car I better get back right now because people were crawling all over the car I was considering. I laughed and told her to let them crawl all they want...then went back two days later and got it at a lower price than she originally quoted me 🤣

Get your keys back when they present the trade in offer. Refuse to continue talking about the new car until you have your keys. Alternately, if they wont give your keys back or are stalling longer than you feel comfortable with, go interrupt another salesman who is with customers and describe the terrible treatment you're experiencing. That always seems to make the keys show up.

Immediately the salesman offered to match the other dealers price. My comment was, so you lied to me when I asked for your lowest price. Here’s a trick I played on a dealership once, years ago. I spent a good amount of time with the salesman, and negotiated a “best and final” out the door price for a CPO Audi A4. As we were doing the final paperwork and the deal sheet with the finance guy, I pointed to the tax line and said, “what’s that?” Of course the finance manager said it was the taxes, and I said, well your salesman gave me an out the door price and that’s what I’m expecting to write this check for. So you have to fix that or we don’t have a deal. He was visibly annoyed, but he went back to the salesman and sales manager, and they came back and said that they’d split the difference with me. So after getting their best and final price, they took an additional $1000 off (half the $2000 sales tax) and I bought my Audi.

Generally, you will pay more buying from CarMax, Carvana, etc. They have such large selections because they buy almost regardless of price. They win the bids at auctions because they will pay the most. They also don't closely inspect vehicles very well. It's a numbers game. They sell so many vehicles they figure it's a numbers game. If your patient, do your homework, you can buy a better car at a better price by shopping around online. From my experience working with the industry for over 30 years.

The tactic that always drive me crazy is from the finance department. They initially quote you an interest rate much higher than you know you can get elsewhere. After I balk they offer me a rate at or even slightly lower than I can get elsewhere if I will add one or more of the overpriced warranties they offer. Sometimes they even extend the payments by a few months to get it the same as it would be with the correct interest rate and an initial balance without the warranty. To beat this I agree to the warranty using the lower rate, and as soon as the check clears from the bank to the dealer I cancel the policy. You have 30 days to cancel and get 100% of the warranty cost back. It goes straight to the principle balance, reducing it back to my initial balance. One time I did this negotiating a deal for a car for us and also one for my mother in law. The finance lady got real upset with me when I showed up to the dealer a week later wanting the info to cancel the policy on both cars. Her comment “you’re not going to do this to me are you?”. I told her had she been up front with me I would be with here, but she wasn’t. I assume she lost some form of bonus incentive based on her reaction.

We test drove it , liked it and I put down a very small deposit and told them I would be back the next day with a check from my credit union. Came back the next day and according to my salesman someone in the morning crew had sold the car. The offered to sell me a similar car and they happened to have a 96 Accord EX that was of course $1,000 more. I was pretty pissed and my first thought was they were trying to pull something on me when the salesman asked me to calm down and explained to me that they were going to match the price of the older car and I was getting a great deal. After calming down I looked over the newer Accord and it was much nicer with lower miles so I did buy it and decided it probably was a mistake and not a tactic.

I actually had a deal for a used car about 1990 where when we went to pick up car after signing papers where we were told car had been sold to two different people and they did not catch it in back office. Car had been picked up by other buyer two hours before we arrived to pick it up. We agreed to price signed papers late in day and they were to do last minute cleaning etc and we come back next day to get car. We were very upset and were concerned over money that we had put down on car as down payment (cash) . It was being financed by credit union. They were very sorry and offered another car but we did not accept it as it had higher mileage and different features. They eventually found a car out of state that was a very close match and mileage was within 500 miles of other one. We accepted it and had to sign papers all over again and go thru paperwork with credit union again. Is there a liability to selling car to more than one buyer. My wife thinks they got more money from other deal and wanted to switch us to another car for more money. When that did not work they did have to scramble to find one acceptable. What is your take on this. Have you ever seen this happen ?

I know you pointed out the 3 tactics, So what would the counter tactics for each one...in a respectful matter? When I go to the dealer, if I know I want a specific car....how do you express your interest, without putting myself in a corner and not getting a discount, low balled, or flat out offended the first dealer offer. In other videos that I have seen, the buyer (me) can be “emotionally compromised” and the sales rep can prey on this. Trust me in saying this...sales reps in dealers can sense and prey on those emotions. Suggestion...next video should focus on the emotional aspect from both buyer “attached to a car” and sales rep “ not giving you discounts that you do qualify for” interactions...key works not to use (from both seller and buyer), and key words to use (buyer). Thanks and keep up the good work.

LOL And that brings me to a word of advice; if a line item is taxed, it's BS....get it out of there. Tax, title, license and the lowest cost you can get for the vehicle, not one other charge. Here's another, it saved my wife and I about $20,000 on her Jeep. They likely wouldn't have gotten to keep the money, but it would have been a fight. Even if you are paying cash make them send a purchase order to your credit union (banks suck). This way, you can tell your banker to only transfer money if it is less than X amount. On the way to pick up the Jeep my banker called me and said they refused the transfer because it was $53k instead of $36k. Apparently they "ordered" the wrong Jeep and then tried to charge me for it. That was a fun one. We got the "wrong" Jeep for the "right" price. I then found out that could have been less of a mistake and more of a tactic. Too bad. LOL

Last month Ray had said that Dodge was offering up to a $9,570 discount on 2019 Dodge Chargers. Is that still the case for August? Thanks
@Maria___284 жыл бұрын
Good question. And what other discounts are out there
@ttbeezy4 жыл бұрын
I was looking for a dodge challenger and dodge had a great incentive for it, sadly the last day was August 3rd. Hopefully us dodge seekers will get more incentives in late summer or fall/end of year.

About 10 years ago a Ford salesman ask me how much do I want to spend. My reply was under invoice. Still not sure if that was a good reply. Anyway I didn't buy a Ford.

ive been shopping around for cars in GA and they are trying to charge above advertised price with dealers fees like, doc fees and filing fees, i dont understand why i ask them and they dont want to follow the GA law of no fees after advertised price excluding tax,tag,and title

Take a look at Kevin Hunter (The Homework Guy) videos on KZbin; he covers the fake fee scams and lots more.

Mark H. I just learned today that GA dealers aren’t allowed to charge over advertised price besides tax tag and title, but some dealers are being sneaky or says they haven’t heard of this law, it was passed about 5 years afo

Thats funny. I went down to a local harley dealer to test ride a bike. But, there was a couple sitting on the bike. They seemed really into it. But, the sales guy i was talking to walked up to them and put plates on it and walked it out side to let me ride it lol. (They were not on the bike still when he didi this) but, it was like tactic 2. In this case, just worked out that way👍 there suppose to call me back today. Wonder if that couple ended up buying it lol

"I will be you, and you be me" What is this? The movie "Freaky Friday???" "If you don't come before closing, this price is off the table" Gives me the rest of the day to try and find a better price. I go get something to eat, and get on the blower and call other dealers for a possible better price. "What do we have to do to earn your business?" "Meet my numbers, which are only good for 15 more minutes,and we have a deal, if you don't, then i will be off to the next dealer who may be more than happy with my numbers"

The second one, asking for the keys in front of a customer would be more effective for a used car as there is only one with the mileage and price/feature set. or a low production sports car.
