Since I switched to the FG knot, its the only knot I use for braid to mono or fluorocarbon, however, mono to fluoro, this surgeon knot is a good fallback. I do four to five loops(turns) instead of just three.

The FG is for braid-2-mono and not mono-2-mono ... apples 'n' oranges.

Yes, this 3 turn surgeon knot can be used for connecting mono and fluorocarbon. I'd stick with the 3 turns for these two lines. I have tested it against the double uni and the surgeon's proved to be stronger. Never tried the seaguar knot so cannot give comparison on that.

JAY TV This channel taught me this knot. I was always a die hard FG fan for leaders. This knot has never failed me but only have issues when using it and trying to use my rods that have micro guides.

The percentage numbers that float around are mostly meaningless for those who don't have an official line measuring device (which is almost everyone). So we stick to testing knots against other knots to simply see which one is strongest. And this Surgeon knot proved to be a top contender by beating the double uni knot. Results will vary depending on the lines used, so be sure to test it out against any other knot you're interested in to see what works best for your lines of choice. Fish On!

Has failed 2 times on me now in about a week. Doing 20lb braid to 10lb floro leader. Is that too much of a difference or is there something else im doing wrong?

The key words you're saying is braid to fluoro leader. Braid is much more slick, very limp and thinner in diameter so you need a knot where the braid can bite into the fluoro or at a minimum tension on itself which generally is accepted as double the amount of turns for mono or fluoro. Start out with the uni to uni knot and do at least 8 wraps with the braid side. Get that working and then you can move up to the crazy Alberto, SC or FG knots which require a bit more skill in tying.

It's similar to the double uni knot in size. Note: I recommend not making a habit of casting knots through rod guides because the impacts from hitting the guides on a repeated basis will weaken the knot.

does this knot cast well thru the eyes of the rod? I use the FG for my braid to fluoro setups, but i'm looking for something to use on mono to fluoro set up. I don't have good success on the FG for the mono to fluoro. Also i have used the double surgeon for my loop knot. do you recommend the triple over the double when just using as a loop knot?

This one wont go thru your eyes, its not designed for that. And the FG wouldnt work for mono to fluoro because the way the FG works is it cuts into the fluoro and mono wont do that.
