In my very first playthrough, I was way too young, and I couldn't get past Pravoka because I got sick of grinding for spell money and walked away from the game. I think it took two years before I realized I could just keep going.

That's the FF I played the most. Yes on NES After the canoe, I go get the rat tail, there is Zeus gauntlet in that dungeon! After that the ice cave then the airship ... And like the volcano after Kraken and Tiamant

Is my preferred path also

It’s a good plan. I personally always do ice cave before castle of ordeals, but it works either way.

Thanks for the tips. I just started ff1 on PSP the other day. I tried a party of 3 monks and 1 white mage to cure. I haven't had to buy much of anything yet lol

It's a pretty solid line up lol. I remember when I started filming for the segment I was blown away by how easy Garland was!

Really love the monk tip. Anything that gives an early game advantage is always fun to try. Just started a playthrough in FF6, and I love how there are small things you can do in the beginning of tha game to make things easier. Like taking the Mythril Spear from the Mog when saving Terra, or getting the Stay Cat Rage for Gau at the very first Veldt.

I remember when I first took the Mythril Shield from Mog in the beginning YEARS ago, I felt like I was cheated almost lol. I too love little things like that and am always looking for new ways to do exactly that same thing. Speed runners are masters of finding little things like that! Thank you so much for commenting!

I did an 8 hour and change run in 92. I still hold it as one of my favorite gaming moments of all time. Definitely my favorite FF game.

I'd say to throw a black mage on that monk team, for blasting big groups and encouraging your monks to FAST. :P And as far as grinding goes, it's probably faster to do shallow dungeon runs for loot. The average party wipe can be salvaged by a second or third attempt, which will take less time than grinding out a level or three.

And this is without abusing the Peninsula of Power and/or other squares on the map with different enemies than the land around them! Giant’s Alley is also a good place to quickly train in the Earth Cave if you need it, but those Giants pack a whallop on an under-armored party. Training around Crescent Lake as soon as you get the canal blown into place is also really useful, for gold, EXP, and Silver/Mythril items :)

I'm doing a new run-thru now, and I wanted some good ideas. These look worth it, but I'm not going for multiple monks this time. Maybe next time tho.

@@TheReturnersHideout Will do. At the moment tho, my life is chaos, and I'm only hoping I'll get to finish it sometime soon, but I'm in no hurry. I like to dig deep and explore the deets when I play anyway. btw, I'm going pretty basic this time, Fighter, Thief, Monk, and White Mage. And I'm playing the NES version on an emulator.

Personally, I just don't care for white mage, thief, or monk. A white mage stands around doing nothing useful in 95% of the game. A thief is a dollar-store fighter who is bad at everything. A monk is the worst RPG character, since a player has no decisions to make, because he doesn't use spells or equipment.
