I put Vito into the same category of Chris Degarmo. It became all consuming to be at the top of their craft they finally just walked away from it. Could be wrong about that, but that was the way it seemed to me. This stuff doesn't just pop into your head, they put a herculean amount of effort into playing to become this fluid with it.

Some guys fabricate solos. Vito designed his. Dare I call him a Guitarchitect? My favorite solos are "Don't Give Up", "Sweet Little Lovin'", "Wait", "Little Fighter", "Warsong" (I love the acoustic stuff in between the solos but the keys and vocals kind of drown it out. That second solo can bring tears to your eyes), "Goin' Home Tonight", "Lights & Thunder" and "Love Don't Come Easy". I love ALL of Vitos solos but those are my favorites. Vito was better than EVH. His playing was just more interesting to listen to. His solos and fills were great and his melodic playing just makes you go "Damn! That guy is awesome!".

I know I am TOTALLY nitpicking here but anything Vito did while Zakk was in high school can't be "Zakk style". ;-))) All kidding aside, you killed this video man!! Brought back so many memories and you are 100% right, it is a bit sad he had such a short career. That's what happens with the legends. Not sure if it is better or worse that he is out there somewhere walking around with a bum wrist. It is like the big man upstairs says "you can only have this guy for a little while but then I have to pull the plug".
@LateNightLessons5 жыл бұрын
Thank you, but technically 'No Rest For The Wicked' came out in 1988 and Mane Attraction was out in 1991. Also, Zakk and Vito were/are sort-of friends and Zakk was notoriously known for saying how much he loved Vito's playing. I think Vito liked Zakk's playing as well and you can hear/tell that that lick came from Zakk's style, as Vito admitted himself that he had NEVER played anything like that solo until that song. Also, if you read interviews with Vito, you'll catch him saying "fast Zakk Wylde pentatonic licks" often from that time period. : ) Rock on!

I have felt for 20 years that the 3 most under rated guitar players of that era were Vito, Reb Beach, and Mick Mars. Each were amazing players that happened to be in bands that didn’t really allow them to stand out because of the bands overall image. White Lion was too bubble gum, Winger was too chick oriented eye candy metal, and crue was very busy being crue. The music was solid in all three bands but the singer or the image outshined the musicianship. Mick is an amazing guitar player. He wasn’t a monster soloist but his use of slide was everywhere and he did it well when no one else was doing it. It took the rest of us 30 years to realize how good they were on those records. I am going to make an odd confession; I wish I had written “scared” by dangerous toys. That is a great great song by a one (semi) hit wonder. The playing on that song is so aggressive yet melodic

Thank you, really enjoyed your lesson. It was really refreshing. I knew/remembered every lick. For years all I listened to was EVH and Vito. Thank you again.

Thank you so much and Vito totally rocks! I've noticed some negative comments and thumbs down on a few of my videos, but it's really few and far between and I really don't pay attention to it (people can be odd). Thanks again and stay tuned for more material! : )

Thank you for playing Vito Bratta! He is a great guitarist but very underrated, which in my book, is one of the best guitarists ever! Thank you!

Thank you and yeah - he should put out some new music. Even if it was all acoustic and instrumental soundtrack-type music, I bet it would still be good, but I'd honestly LOVE to hear a rockin' shred-style album from him, even though I know that will probably never happen. \m/ VITO \m/

This guy has such a casual brilliance. I wish guys like this were hanging around during my guitar/formative teenage years back in the 70's/80's - I'd be a much better player today. Incredible lesson, thanks for playing each part slow and then a real speed with multiple passes. Just great - I gotta lot of work to do LOLZ!

@@LateNightLessons I dont think I'm a dist relative of George but I'd be pretty sure there's some Irish in him.I loved George's work in Dokken during the 80's but now I find it a little too improvised and less melodic. Still a fantastic guitarist though.

Something I noticed when watching vids of Vito playing is he upstrokes a lot of his blues/pentatonic licks. It’s like Billy Gibbons on steroids lol
@LateNightLessons5 жыл бұрын
That is interesting, and while downstrokes are more aggressive, upstrokes do create a different tone/sound and I like using them sometimes too. ~ Get Up for the Downstroke ~ : )

Bratta, like Jake E Lee, got fed up with the music's business and disappeared, such a shame. At least Jake left us more material and then he finally came back, but Vito remained chained to the 80s "hair-metal" scene with White Lion, and when grunge appeared he said "fuck it". Awesome melodic player, very recognizable between the shredding's "scale-runners" we had in the 80s. He made his life work outside of the selfish and sick music's business, good for him, but he's always going to be missed.
@bghammock5 жыл бұрын
Randy Rhoads was my very first guitar hero when my 12 year old self first heard the Blizzard album a few months after he died. When White Lion came along, I had friends that couldn't stand them due to Mike Tramp's "whiny" sounding vocals (their words, not mine), but I only heard that incredible guitar playing behind him and was hooked for life. I've learned some Randy songs on guitar, but never even attempted any Vito because it seemed way beyond anything I'd ever play .. I never saw the connection between the two of them until you pointed it out. Thanks for that! I wonder if that's what subconsciously hooked me from the start :)

Hi david - great to see someone on youtube whos more in love with the instrument and the artist - than himself lol - well done - your laidbackness and humility is a joy to behold - keep up the good work - your playing is fantastic - gr8 to see something on vito - if you could do something on johhny winter - it would be much appreciated - second winter is one of greatest records of the late 60s - his playing is amazing throughout - a lesson on the good love at some stage would be gr8 - i know i was being a bit hard on some of the guys on youtube - there are many who are doing good lessons - but so many poseurs too - with nothing to impart- other than loook at me!!!!! lol

Vito...the best guitarist in the world doing tapping. He was even better than EVH using the same lick IMO.. (alumni vs.the inventor..?)
@lmsrox25 жыл бұрын
Ed didn't invent tapping. Steve Hackett used it on Return of the Giant Hogweed from Genesis' Nursery Cryme album. Pretty sure there was an Italian guitarist who used t as far back as the 50s.
@endtyme13455 жыл бұрын
@@lmsrox2 Yeah I know what u mean..I mentioned Eddie even that "conflict" (to put it in some way..) on who "owns" the technique..I'm not pretty sure since there's a couple of musicians claiming the same but no one knows exactly about this. Anyway, EVH, creator or not, was the first to play with the technique at a monster level so I think it's fair enough to say he's the king.. 😉
@LateNightLessons5 жыл бұрын
I like this conversation happening over here! : ) There seems to be a lot of debate over this, and while EVH didn't invent tapping, he certainly popularized it more than anyone before him. As far as those early tappers, the earliest ones I'm aware of include Jimmy Webster (1950's) and Vittorio Camardese (1960's). I have a sneaky suspicion that Eddie's dad Jan exposed him to these artists when he was young. I also believe Jan played a bigger role inspiring Eddie/Alex when they were kids than anyone talks about. It's possible they may not even clearly remember since they would've been kids, but their dad was a famous jazz clarinet player, so he had connections and knowledge out the wazoo and I bet he shared tons of things with them when they were little and just getting started.

@@LateNightLessons Thanks for the information! Loved to know more about EVH origins & family's influence! What's your favourite guitar hero using tapping? ☺
@2216sammy10 ай бұрын
Vito better than Edward . You are out of your dang mind . EVH's "Mean Street" intro and "Woman in love" intro alone are superior to anything Vito has ever done . Eddie was light years ahead of everybody , that's why he's the undisputed King .
