🏡If you are looking for canning, gardening, preserving, cooking, crafts, prepping tips & so much more, then you have come to the right place.
Hi guys! My name is Sammie & I am a homesteading wife, a homeschooling mom & a granny.
We live on a 10-acre small hobby farm in Oklahoma, and we have 7 children with 4 still at home. We grow & process a majority of our meat supply & grow an organic garden that supplies us throughout the year by growing & preserving.
We are also blessed with many wild edibles growing on our land to forage, eat & to also use medicinally ~ I show you how to harvest, use & preserve some of them.
Thank you for stopping by! We hope you enjoy our family channel & consider subscribing.

How do you dry the goldenrod so it doesn’t fuzz up? How do you keep the dry leaves/flowers for tea throughout the year? Total newbie but my land is FULL of goldenrod and I can’t wait to start preparing your recipes

@amymasterson527 I wish i could post a photo on here. It does fuzz up, but it's not too bad at all. I keep mine in a big glass container/jar. I put leaves and the fuzzy flowers in my tea bag. I hope this helps. ~Sammie 😊

Great video-- thank you! How much of the acv goldenrod do you take daily? Trying to get my kids and myself help with our allergies!!
@bluefeatherhomestead
@bluefeatherhomestead 8 ай бұрын
Thank you so much. I appreciate that & and it is absolutely my pleasure. I usually take about 1/2 to 1 tsp (acv) in about 1/2 coffee Cup of Water daily. It is so beneficial for so many things. I LOVE it. I have also heard to put a dot of peppermint oil in between your eyes, above your nose, to help with allergies. But it will burn your eyes if it gets in them (obviously), so maybe not on a day that you're sweating outside or something. I hope this helps. Have a blessed day, friend. 🙏 ~Sammie

Doing this soon. Do you strain the one with oil or leave the golden God in there n how do you use it?
@bluefeatherhomestead
@bluefeatherhomestead 9 ай бұрын
That's a really great question. I do strain it. A couple of ways to use it would be making a salve with it (topical~for pain and/or inflammation). I have mixed it with honey & apple cider vinegar for my salads as a dressing. I hope this helps & hope that you are having a great week! Thank you.

Can you make vinegar infusion with wine or balsamic vinegar.

That's a really good question & I wish I had the answer. I will need to look into that. I honestly do not see why you couldn't unless the acid isn't strong enough to keep buggies/germ growth at bay.

I really want to make some tea but it’s so late in the season here all our golden rod has already started turning a little brown. Is it too late to use it do I gotta just wait till next year it’s just not bright yellow anymore.
@bluefeatherhomestead
@bluefeatherhomestead 8 ай бұрын
This is a really great question, and I have been looking to find an answer. In my mind, I say why not do it now before it's completely dead. I haven't found anything that says it's either beneficial or harmful at this point. I'm trying to think of an example to myself.... I wouldn't pick & eat cilantro if it was dead, but I might if it was turning a little brown. I'm going to have to say, it's your call. I literally can not find the answer. ☆☆I'm hoping that if anyone else reading this knows the answer to this question, we will gladly accept!! Thank you ~Sammie

how late in the season can you harvest goldenrod?
@bluefeatherhomestead
@bluefeatherhomestead 6 ай бұрын
That is a great question. If they still have flowers on them, then you can use them. The best time or when they are the most potent is when the flower is just barely opening. I apologize for taking this long to answer. Somehow, I miss comments along the way. I hope you have a great day and coming up weekend! 😊 ~Sammie

I was told to soak in salt water to kill any tiny insects. It that necessary? ???
@bluefeatherhomestead
@bluefeatherhomestead 9 ай бұрын
Good question. I would say, why not? I would soak it for at least 10 minutes to rid of any unwanted insects. (This is what I read) I personally just give the plant a good shake, which probably doesn't rid them all. I just may start soaking them! 😆 thanks for the question & helping me learn something today. I love it! Have a blessed day, my friend. ~Sammie
