Hi Elizabeth. I found some ion the freezer that were over 12 months old last year. They looked a bit frosty but I just rinsed that off & tossed it in the stirfry. I think if they were frozen then sealed in a vacuum pack they could last for a number of seasons. Hope that helps you out some. Cheers & have a top one.

Thanks so much for the video. I'm a chef in a restaurant here in Charleston, SC and we get fresh ginger constantly (to make chutney with) and I've incorporated into a lot of specials over the time I've spent cooking. The dehydration and freezing tips have been especially helpful, and I really think I can get that much more creative in using it as well as preserving it now. Cheers.

Thanks for making this helpful video Rob. 👍 A bloke at work just gave me a bag full of fresh ginger, and I was looking for some ideas for ways to store it so none goes to waste. I decided to go with your paste & freeze method, got it in the freezer now in icecube trays, and in the next day or two I'll vacuum seal the ginger cubes in small batches and put back in the freezer. Whenever I open a vacuum sealed bag I'll just put the remainder of the batch into a ziplock bag in the freezer until I need to open another vacuum sealed bag.

Helped it did, Thanks mate :) I havn't tried growing it yet, but I've since found and watched your video on growing ginger, and now that I know how easy it is, I'll definitely plant some and see how it goes. I'm kicking myself I didn't save some of the ginger to plant out, but hopefully the bloke at work will be bringing some more in, but failing that I'll keep my eyes peeled while I'm out shopping for any ginger with some grow points or buds starting, and start growing my own. Cheers Rob 👍

Thanks Rob, I've been wondering which way to go with my ginger. So far, I have been lucky and any frost we've had in Wagga hasn't affected my ginger plant too much. However, it's only a matter of time. I was contemplating drying and pulping, but it would've been more experimental than anything. But not now. Thanks again for a great informative clip. Cheers, Rog

I put my ginger paste into plyable egg trays. No cutting that way! once they're frozen (usually overnight) I turn them out and put them in freezer bags. I usually measure it out before putting it in, and since I usually use it in no less than 1/2 tsp amounts, that the amount I measure out. Then all I have to do is take out the number which corresponds to the recipe I'm cooking. I do the same with broth and soup base. It also can be done with some types of masala for certain Indian dishes, and the various pastes used in Thai recipes. It makes the process of cooking so easy that it can't be beat. There's nothing like throwing a few cubes, some spices, and the protein of your choice into an Instant Pot and having dinner ready in ten or fifteen minutes. A little extra work now makes for nice lazy days later, and especially when you need them when time is short.

just wrap it in an old t-shirt put it in a wicker basket in a closet for the winter, plant it last winter in a pot and put in your window, stick outside after the last frost of the year. our winters up here are damn near 8 months, you can not let any ind of root vegetable stay in the ground up here. Been growing my ginger for 5 years now, I use them for a ginger juice drink, a bit og ginger pulp, some lemon a little sugar, and yummie

These tutorials give simple insight into materials, methods, and applications... Wow! Including the underlying humor, embedded into the talks, the instructive nature of the presentations give individuals a chance to learn through replicating your demonstrations, techniques, and learning through trial and error... So, as someone who was exposed to getting my fingers into the dirt during my youth, partially growing up on my relatives' farms, working in the fields, harvesting, helping to set up urban gardens, vest pocket parks, suburban gardens, and house plants, planting my own successful gardens, composting with my dad (decades ago), and visiting botanical gardens, all of that falls within the domain of why I admire those that cultivate plants etc. Furthermore, I've just been around that element since I've been born! God-willing, I'll be starting some ginger soon...! Keep it up... Glad I clicked on your site... Much Appreciated, Mate! Warm Regards, Jamal PS: *"Stay Green"*

Haven't gone to the greenhouse yet as it is still warm. Thinking about setting up growlights in the basement to prolong growing time. The ginger in the grow pouches has done very well this year. I love to candy some then dip half of of a slice in dark chocolate. That was an excellent video. Thanks.

That sounds like a very tasty treat Bonny. 🙂 Am yet to candy a batch from home grown root. As you can see I've got quite a few comments to catch up on so you might get a few more responses over the next week or so. 😉 Cheers & have a great day.
