My mom makes dandelion syrup or dandelion honey as she calls it. Now that she's getting older it's time to pass the recipe down a generation. This year is the first time I got the okay from her to do it myself. Wish me luck guys. Edit: thanks for the beautiful comments everyone, my first batch came out a bit too thin but thickened in like a week when kept in the jar (at least the ones surviving the family's attack) I think I'll be experimenting with the water/sugar ratio

@@1Corinthians15-1 we boil 500 flower heads with 2 sliced lemons in 7-8 cups of water for about 5 mins. Then let it sit for 24h and strain it afterwards. We ad 1.5kg of sugar and cook it on slow until thick (90 mins or so). Put it in jars and keep them upside down till they cool down.

O' Dandy Lion so boldly yellow. Sitting on my lawn, such a fine fellow! You are the first sign of Spring whose early scouts make me sing. Soon the whole mob will encamp upon the green grass so damp. Spread afar Like Abraham's children. Boundless stars, over hills they will run. With your gold we are rich, treasure in a field niche. Tis slander to call thee a weed. Thou art a fair flower indeed! I would no more yield to mow you over than a lucky field of four leaf clover. Shine on little sun. With you life seems fun. Soon parachutes will fan, alight over the land. You'll be left bare and bony after your babies take flight. I'll recall grey times, lonely until you made the days bright! (George Wooley)

I live in the dry desert in Arizona. So, it was challenging to forage dandelions. I discovered I could grow my own in a flower box. It's been two years and flowers bloom nicely. It's been a two year experiment that seems to have been successful. I will be growing more soon. I have to water them everyday bc it's so dry out here but they are thriving. When the heat goes above 100 degrees I slow down the beating sun with a crate. I just cover then to give them shade but still get sun. Yes I started the plant from organic seeds that I ordered on line. Now my new plants provide the seeds. I've made only tinctures so far from the roots that I had to order before I ever tried growing my own. I am so excited to make salves and lotions next. Calendulas were my first friend and the salves came out so good! I gave so many away since I made so much. I loved seeing that you made a personal amount. I will be doing that next time! Love the video 💝🌞🏵️

YOU can mix dandelion flowers and leaves for mixed salads. The leaves, alone, are bitter, but fine in a mixed salad. I learned this from elder relatives and it was great. That was with fresh dandelions. I don't know what the health benefits are, but it is good, and that was with fresh dandelions. Some people made dandelion wine and that apparently was pretty potent, but I don't have a clue how it was made, only having spoken with a few people, including one of my grandfathers, about this. One of my grandmothers also made medicinal herbal tea with dandelions and that was said to be good. My grandmother certainly like it anyway. Anyway, I would not shy away from consuming dandelions, as long as there aren't any toxic pesticides, etc. Doesn't seem like much for a plant, but I learned that it is good for us. Of course that is assuming that a person is not allergic to this, but I never heard or even read that this plant can cause allergies. Maybe it could?

I've made dandelion wine and it was wonderful. The secret (sometimes secrets should be told 😅) is no green foliage in the wine. It will make it bitter. So it will be time consuming. I pick the flower with the hard center. Just dig that out with fingernail and measure about one quart of yellow blossom per gallon, oranges, lemons to taste, 2 cups sugar, 1 red star wine yeast packet, 7 pints water. Set on must 7 to 10 days. Remove from must. Put liquid in bottle. No plant matter. 2 cups more sugar. U may have to top up your water and to fill your gallon. Add balloon on top.21 day latter add 1 to 2 cups more sugar depending on how sweet it is. Leave alone for at least 4 to 7 or more months.😊

Anything can cause an allergic reaction. It just depends on the individual person's response to being exposed to something. Some things are more allergenic though. For example, I didn't know this until I learned it in college, but a lot of people are allergic to strawberries. I also recently heard of someone having an allergic reaction that was attributed to mangos. She was told mangos are related to the poison ivy family. I looked it up, and pistachios and cashews are too! 😮

With regards to your oil firstly if you remove the green base you will eliminate the problem of more moisture which is what will spoil your oil... what you should be using is plain olive oil not extra virgin and also it is very important to use a wooden stick like the end of a wooden spoon or a skewer each day making it keep poking your flowers down keep poking your flowers down keep poking your flowers down as that will allow any air to come to the surface and bubble out. Doing this each day will ensure that your oil does not spoil... your tincture must be made with 100 proof not 80 100 proof is what will extract the medicinal benefits anything higher than 100 Proof will burn it off and anything lower will not extract

Thankyou so much. I had dried some dandelion last spring by letting them dry then I had them in the fridge for a few weeks. They were dried and looked good but after two weeks upon opening my dark glass jar it smelled like its spoiled or like mildew. Sadly I have to throw it away because I'm just not sure. It probably had moister in it even though they felt dry. I'm going to start fresh next spring or purchase fried dandelion. I also used cold pressed fractionated coconut oil so I'll use olive oil next time. I'm thankful I found you. Thanks again and happy new year 🕊🌼💗

On the making of oil, my first oil was spoiled by mold . Then I learned to put a piece of fabric over the top of the jar and not close it with a lid. This way the moisture that is in the plantmaterial will be able to evaporate and leave the jar and there will be no chance for mould. The plantmaterial kind of dries out while being in the oil. When you find it has steeped long enough you can seeve it and THEN close it with a lid.

I'm a first-time viewer of your videos.😢 you Thank you for this information. May I offer a suggestion? I hope so, haha, as I'm going to. I plan to use something other than newsprint because both the ink as well as the paper are made from highly toxic chemicals e.g. chlorine bleach, formaldehyde, etc.. What I think I'll try will be an old drapery sheer possibly over a thin piece of scrap cotton e.g. an old pillow case with the seams ripped out to lay flat. Both are slick enough for the bugs to crawl across easily. But the cotton might help to keep the sheer from slipping around. Just a thought. But thanks for the info!

Yes, it depends on the area of the country you were reared in. Now with travel and relocation and aliens coming into the country, the pronunciation distinctions are becoming less apparent. Fifty years ago I learned of a man who would ask a person to pronounce several words. He could locate their place of residence within two miles because of the way they sounded those words. He must have been extremely gifted in that area of knowledge.

Fantastic video, thank you! Question: Do you know what the best way is to dry the flowers so they still look somewhat pretty and without trying to seed? I've tried air drying but they close up and fall apart. I've tried oven drying but I think it'll need a lower temperature to keep them from getting brown on the edges. Dehydrator maybe? This would be for full flower heads, not just the petals. Any help would be greatly appreciated 😊

UPDATE: I experimented with the dehydrator and they came out perfectly!!! I'm noticing that it also depends on how many days the flowers have already opened....so if theyre harvested the day before they would go to seed naturally anyways, they will not turn out pretty being dried. If you grab them when they're in their biggest, most beautiful lush state and put them yellow side down on the trays, they come out perfectly!

The chemicals in the weed and feed are not what you want in your body! I bought feed for my goats from a nearby farmer, not knowing he had used herbicides on his land. I compost EVERYTHING compostable, so that's where the goat droppings went. This is the ninth year since I put the compost on my garden plot. The weeds are now beginning to grow. If it had such devastation on the soil, I wonder what effect it had on my goats. What was in the cheese I made? What in the milk? Be careful where you get your dandelions!
