It’s all about money. Was diagnosed with osteoporosis about 6 years ago. I’m in my 50’s and I refused to take the drugs as they have given my mum crepey bones. I asked the doctor what natural paths could I take re exercise and nutrition and she said she could advise me.. The doctors aren’t trained in nutrition which is absolutely madness!!! I’ve never taken any drugs, not been invited for any more scans. I’ve been dropped off the NHS list as I won’t comply! If I die of a broken hip as I was told might happen then so be it! I could be run over by a bus.. Take vitamins D3 & K2 (combined), eat calcium rich foods, stand in your patio and jump and skip and buy yourself a rebounder (mini tramp).. it’s called DIY!

I just started HRT at age 70 (.0375 patch and progesterone). The estrogen was making me miserable with PMS symptoms. I switched to .025 patches and the awful symptoms disappeared. I did give the higher dose a 3 month trial and I hated it. I'm much more comfortable with the lower dose. I hope it helps my bones.

I started the same estrogen 0.0375 patch and progesterone. I stopped the patch after 1 month, because I noticed rapid heart rate after applying it. It did dissipate but it was unsettling. No problem with the progesterone. Not sure if that is a common side effect of estrogen.

Just saw endocrinologist in Texas. He said HRT not used in US for osteoporosis (my sister lives in France and is prescribed it). Instead, I’ve been advised to go with the annual Reclast infusion for five years. This seems to be the Mayo Clinic advice. I was surprised that HRT wasn’t even up for discussion, although it could be due to the absence of flushes in my case.

I understand your situation. Doctors are terrified of estrogen if you've had breast cancer. I even tried to get my doctor to prescribe progesterone, but No. So I order progesterone from amazon, Karuna Pure Natural Progesterone Cream for men and women. I also take DHEA, which will help for bones. I had one doctor recommend taking DHEA when I asked him if he would prescribe testosterone cream for my bones. Low DHEA levels, I have read, also are indicated in osteoporosis. I had been taking bioidentical hormones up until I was diagnosed with breast cancer, and then, of course, my doctor would no longer prescribe them for me. My bone scan (after I was taken off bioidentical hormones) showed "Lumbar density shows a very large decline of 12.4%." Just be your own doctor. Get the Karuna Pure progesterone and take DHEA 25 mg. I also lift weights and walk every day, and eat well, protein, yogurt, etc. and vegetables. But the calcium in vegetables is mostly unused for bone health because of phytates, etc.

I believe it's important not to be dogmatic and see what works for you. For me I took two years to slowly work up to a .1 estradiol patch, I check blood serum and get numbers between 80-100 so this works great for me. Its bioidentical patch Estradot. I agree with the bioidentical protester one and even cyclical as a great idea. For two years I tried every way possible to tolerate bioidentical progesterone... Skin cream from compounded pharmacy, then pill form, vaginally cream, then pill vaginally, starting very low dose to work up and I got intolerable psych symptoms, cognitive impairment, insomnia, and tachycardia. I tried synthetic progestin orally to see if I tolerated better because you can't take estradiol without some form of progesterone or you can get endometrial cancer, if you have a womb still. My obgyn was very concerned about endometrial cancer when not on enough progesterone, he's seen some very bad stuff. I tried low dose progestin then cycled for 12 days and all just debilitated me. My endo and obgyn both suggested the Mirena progestin IUD and for two years I refused bc it's synthetic and I wanted only bioidentical. I decided to try Duavee first which has a SERM and kept a. 25 estradiol patch on and intolerable. I didn't take anything but estradiol for 3 months and had to get a D and C and my obgyn placed the Mirena....now my lining is protected from cancer while I take the level of estradiol I need for my bones to rebuild. My bone densities the last two years both had improvements and I'm now out of the severe osteoporosis diagnosis. I can't wait to see what this year's shows. I went from debilitated to lifting weights, taking Zumba, pilates, and walking daily. I have Marodyne and take fortibone collagen and aim to eat one gram of protein per ideal body weight... I get close most days. My whole body has gotten strong and pain is gone and I recheck my body composition dexa in december. I was sold on bioidentical creams being the gold standard but you have to find what you can do and tolerate. I'm willing to have the Mirena to be able to stay on estrogen. The Mirena IUD is the only form of a progesterone/progestin I can tolerate. Just like I do in my field of work I believe one size does not fit all and being too dogmatic can be a disservice.

@@Dr_DougLucas thank you! I'll update as I do my body composition Dexa in December and my bone density at HSS in NYC in June. I'm 48 and there is no way I'm not building back. I visualize strong bones and I'm also a woman of faith in Jesus and know from personal experience all things are possible. Our bodies are awe inspiring self healing and wonderfully made! I continue to find the line of adding weight and stress to strengthen with avoiding injury. I have had set backs but never give up. It is so worth it. I had POI and didn't get to be on hormones.. My case was mismanaged initially rhen I had a fracture and found out what was going on and refused IV evenity or some other bone drug and I am soooo glad I did. THANK YOU FOR SHARING your experience and journey!! I see myself in you and will use it as inspiration for my journey back to strong bones from a severe OP diagnosis. I, too, want to do it without the hard bone drugs and believe Christ, as the Great Physician, can turn this around regardless of what I do. I used to LOVE weight training but after a family tragedy I cocooned and fell hard into a sedentary life for 10 years which is when I developed severe OP. I need to get my life back and start a resistance training program bigtime!!! I looked into the Marodyn LiV (spelling?) vibration plate a year ago and couldn't take the $3-4 grand hit... but I so want it and have been budgeting for it. I haven't done HRT. 😬 Clearly, I need to find an informed physician to guide me in the right ways and see what's working for me. May God bless you richly on your healing journey. Keep up the great work!! I will try to watch out for your update in a year or so. ..... hopefully, God willing, my journey will be a success as well. 🙏🕊❤️

@@rachelk3010 finding a physician to work with who is informed like this is vital. I did a ton of research 3 years ago when I got the diagnosis and read journal articles. This channel didn't exist then so I found a research study that showed women with POI put in full hormone replacement. Including a. 1 estradiol patch had regained to normal density within three years. Yes my loss was worse and I was not put on hormones as soon as they were... And they were a little younger than me but so what... Why not me also... And I knew I had to get on hormones. I did my own research on the women's health initiative and now many doctors speak out against it but hardly any did publically 3 years ago. Thank God things are changing. My opinion is hormones are way more important than the marodyne. Also I got a cheaper one refurbished. I also felt it was most useful when I was still sick and immobile. I was severely ill for 12 years and used a wheelchair and was bedridden, which along with the loss of hormones put me in the severe OP dx. Like the woman with the blood issue that Jesus healed after 12 years I also have a miraculous story of healing. This osteoporosis is the fall out from all of that, but it also is being reversed and healed. My ability to be active again, be able to walk again... I had to do lots to gain my life back... Lots of little steps into freedom... Patience and never giving up. Seeing myself thriving and well and using my body fully... Mindset is so important. Faith. Not using age as a limitation or even identifying too closely with a diagnosis. Every diagnosis I had there was no cure for and I'm healed. Now my bones are healing also. My goal is to be in the best shape of my life when I turn 50, and I have been in some great shape up until I got ill. I was a dancer and lifted weights and ran in my 20's...swam...had good muscle...and was not overweight nor underweight. But I believe I can be even stronger now. I eat much better now with protein and I so value my health and my body now. Stay committed and you can do this... God is a miracle worker and we do out part with the wisdom gained from our research, people like Dr. Doug, and by caring for our body, soul, and spirit. Getting out of a chronic stress response was vital for me. Laughing and dancing... Even when I couldn't stand... Were massively healing. Worshipping God and singing and mostly His Word... The Bible... Fed me spiritually when I was ill for so long and sustained me. It truly is life. I became closer to God and through my journey truly understand the whole point of life. I healed from the inside out and have become a new person. I believe God will lead you to the right doctor, or at least one who will read the research you bring to them and agree to the plan you'd like to have. I kept asking God and He led me to an endocrinologist in NYC who fully agreed with me and had read the studies I had and she's the one who said. 1 patch is the goal, let's see how close we can get. An obgyn is essential also because they know things like watching your lining and making sure you don't take unapposssd estrogen which can grow endometrial lining cancer. I pray God leads you to the right team. Get the foundation going... Close as you can to 1 gram of protein per pound of your ideal body weight... Although I usually get to about 100g a day. I also get my calcium from real food and only supplement if I'm lower than 1200mg that day. I eat no sugar and only on occasion a stevia homemade chocolate or something like that. Reduce stress and have more fun laughter and dancing in life. This reduces cortisol which when too high can harm out bones and lots more. I feel the supplements and the marodyne and even fortibone collagen are just icing on the cake. Slowly increase your exercise and most important is weight lifting. I was so weak and atrophied after 12 years I started with 2 lb weights for my arms and learned how to do squats and dead lifts from the Buff Bones subscription... Which also strengthened my core. I did all of this first and slowly built up over time. I'm now lifting 13 pound dumbells and started to do pull ups and push ups now. I do squats holding 56 pounds and deadlifts with 15 pound dumbells in each hand. Bit by by I'm getting there. My first zumba class I barely moved and I made everything low impact. This week I was upfront leading with the instructor. I still don't do big jumpy things... But I am starting to skip on my walks for just 15 seconds the walk again.. Anyway, its a journey and I wish at the start I had someone like Dr. Doug. I had to figure it out on my own and I was so scared at diagnosis, I thought I could break a vertebrae if I moved the wrong way. My journey has helped me to trust and know my body and I don't do foolish things but I continue to find the line and push it a little. I know when I need a rest day or more.

I had 10 years ago a breast cancer hormonal dependant. I did not take any med or treatements for it except a surgery. I don’ t take any medication, don’t smoke or dring(even soda), not vegetarian. I weight 110lbs and 5.6. Diagnosed -1.6spine and -2.5 left hip and -2.6 femoral. I don’t want to take fosamax. May HRT be given to me?

Can I start HRT at 67? I did start vaginal estrogen tabs a few years ago. Also started taking Fosemax because of some osteoporosis in my spine. new Dexa scan showed no osteoporosis just osteopenia. I do weight lifting 3 days a week, increased protein intake and walk daily with a weighted vest. Should I stop the fosimax?

Would walking with a ruck vest be beneficial for bone density?

That’s my question too. I have a weight vest ( 12-15 lb ) and want to know if walking with it would help. I have bone loss in my hip joint. I also have access to a Jacob’s ladder and would a weighted vest on that help even more?
