I have a question/concern about where the algae is sourced and is it tested for PFAS and heavy metals? Algae can easily be contaminated from the water it grows in and has been a problem for brands of chlorella and spirulina. The research I have found for bone health with K2 is that it is MK4 that improves bone health. I take a combination of the 2 with higher amounts of MK4. It is a small soft gel.
@Dr_DougLucas7 ай бұрын
Hi! Every batch of AlgaeCal powder is tested by a third-party laboratory for microbial activity, heavy metals, mineral content and more. The final product is made in an FDA-inspected GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) plant where the highest standards are kept. AlgaeCal is FDA registered and has Health Canada approvals. It has been on the market for 20 years and has 3 clinical studies and a toxicology study showing extraordinary safety!

@@Lanscape81 Do some hardcore research before starting any drugs. Look up Dr. Doug's videos on bisphosphonates and Prolia (at least 3 different videos). Those are not good long term solutions, and yes, they do have a lot of side effects, some very severe. I was on Actonel and Prolia, and had some irreversible side effects. Also on Forteo some time ago. That's a completely different story. I would do that one again. Unlike the others, it actually builds bone. Fosamax, Actonel, Prolia, etc. suppress bone metabolism, which might look good on paper for awhile, but in the end is not good.

I discovered AlgaeCal a couple of weeks ago, ordered the 6-month supply, and just started taking it (the bone-builder pack with AlgaeCal Plus and Strontium). I've had about 4 dexascans starting in my 50s, and the most recent one was mixed: 97% PBD in my spine, but 67% in my left femoral neck. My doctor immediately suggested the dreaded drugs (which I think is weird considering the spine reading!), but I said no, let me take some time to think. Then I discovered AlgaeCal. So this video came at the PERFECT time. Also, I discovered your KZbin channel a few weeks ago because of a recent bout of hip pain. I can't tell you how much I appreciate your approach to analyzing findings of current medical research. Your relentless approach to uncovering flaws and biases is awe-inspiring. My concern about the AlgaeCal is that it's made with red algae, which contains carageenan. Carageenan make three unrelated cats of mine so itchy we saw vets for over a year before we figured out carageenan was the issue. Plus carageenan inflammatory, people with any inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, etc.) react badly to it, coming out of remission into symptom flares in response to carageenan. Did they by any chance take the carageenan out of it entirely?
@Dr_DougLucas3 ай бұрын
Hi! The red algae they use in AlgaeCal is called Mesophyllum Superpositum and is a species of red coralline algae from the order of Algas calcareas. It does not contain carrageenan like some other sea algae such as: Eucheuma denticulatum, Kappaphycus alvarezii, Gigarina skettsbergii, Sarcothalia crispata, and Chondrus crispus) Here is a link if you would like to read more about it: algaecal.info/3xVKHiS.

Don't worry, you can use food or cheaper sources: Dairy, sunshine, liver, heart, natto, eggs, egg shell, fish, lemon zest, bone broth, marrow, other organs, borax (tiny amounts), magnesium bath or topical spray, etc. These foods are extremely nutrient dense, inexpensive and some are free. Or ask your local health food store for affordable choices (such as a multi mineral). Our ancestors had strong bones without supplements, so consider their traditional diet.

Highly informative video. I went to the AlgaeCal site and read the ingredients of AlgaeCal Plus. AlgaeCal Plus contains magnesium oxide. Is magnesium oxide absorbable? I thought the amino acid chelates of magnesium were more absorbable. Can you talk to the company and ask them to switch to a more bioavailable form of magnesium? I think I prefer to get the regular AlgaeCal, add D3 complete, and separately add boron and another form magnesium.

A few weeks ago i fell, and landed on my other wrist, it did not break it was just sprained! I also visit a chiropractor and my back seems to be a lot better butcagain, they are not allowed to xray. As for the money back guarantee from AlgaeCal and its claim that it builds bone, couldn't the "better" dexa results be due to the strontium in AlgaeCal? If it is calcium that builds bone strength and strontium skews the reading of bone calcification in a Dexa (and certainly couldn't be compared to a previous Dexa prior to taking strontium), what good is comparing before and after Dexas? As you said in your video about strontium, Dexa is not the best indicator of bone health and we should be looking at other biomarkers and bone quality imaging. Is AlgaeCal doing studies of their product on bone strength and not just Dexa results? You also suggest that people take calcium at a different time than strontium but it is a component of the AlgaeCal. Thoughts?

@@kmtx78 I have a hard time swallowing pills too, for different reasons . I do open up the AlgaeCal and put it into a tiny amount of yogurt. It's not bad at all. Sometimes I take two capsules at a time that way. The powder is a little bit gritty, but it seems a little less so to me than rock forms of Ca. Doesn't taste bad either. The yogurt coats it and makes it easy to swallow, for me at least. I think it would work in pureed foods too.

I read that strontium thickens the outer bone, which is why Dexa changes. The problem is that thicker bones do not mean stronger bones. This thickening alters the tensile strength of bone. Also, the small amount of strontium 3-5 mg that is included in organic calcium products is okay, it's the separate products ranging up to 500 mg is not good.

A prescription form of strontium ranelate to treat osteoporosis is available in Europe, but it has not been approved by the FDA. Strontium supplements (not the same as ranelate) are available over the counter in the U.S., but no studies show they are safe or effective. Taking strontium supplements can actually lead to inaccurate bone density tests later in life. This product contains strontium.

Do you get a % when ordering it through your vitamin store (not sure what it's called exactly, just recall you recommending that people buy supplements through you) Aside from that, the most recent information that I'm seeing says we should get our calcium from food rather than supplements. Im keeping my (NOW SUPPLEMENTS) from amazon which i have allready ordered and add them slowely back into my new pills if needed after blood work to confirm levels of supplements. How do you know how much to take or cut back, from your every 6 month testing from your doctor. Final result is your dexa scan. If you can get a dexa before you start you will have a baseline to start with. My doc wants me on bisfosamates, im doing this first. I just tell him i need 1 to 2 years to see results and then make a through decession. Dr doug does have a full service class, where they do everything for you on your journey.
