In this talk we go deeper into talking about ego and ego fear and how most of our fear is not about an actual threat to our safety, but about a threat to our ego. This ego fear can result in a lot of self-sabotage and unnecessary struggle that can be dealt with simply by learning how to manage the ego.

Trying to balance my need for connection with other people and letting go of their opinions about me is a real challenge. I frequently struggle to not go out and try to earn connection at the expense of my truer self.

I suggest you take a look at the movie bicentennial man and pay special attention at the end-- the last 30 minutes or the movie whiplash about a young, very ambitious drummer. I think to the degree we have a confident, involved Father or Father-figure we lean a lot less on other people's opinion of us as men. What do you think?

Hi my name is CeCeilia! I live in Scottsbluff, Ne and I am 23 years old (24 in August). This isn’t the first time watching any of Julia’s videos, but I thought I would introduce myself since I haven’t done that yet. I am really liking that Julia is talking about the ego. It’s helping me to understand me more and how to work on becoming better.

I have been thinking and thinking and thinking about what exactly goes on for me over and over again. In the Law of Attraction or spiritual camp, they say only focus on what you want to create, AND to stay in the moment. I seem to have a script of people being irritated by me or fear of being rejected. Because of this, I tend to shut down from speaking to people on my street (specifically, and I've lived here for almost 7 years) I believe I over compensate by TRYING to be friendly, and open. The problem is, I BELIEVE people do not respond to me favourably because I am not "authentic." I shouldn't beat myself up for this, as I think I am doing my best, but do then, try to protect myself by feeling anger, and then retreat, and decide not to bother :( I am not comfortable in my own skin.

Thank you Julia! This is mind opening information for me as I battle with growth and my "stinking thinking", as I like to refer to it. My ultimate goal is freedom from the automatic reactions I currently engage in, which includes being defensive. I hadn't accepted that it was my ego controlling my behaviour, even though my current partner has told me this, repeatedly. The joke is my ego was probably telling me lies about this information to protect itself!

Perception of threat... fear of rejection... or putting our thoughts on others. Hmmmm I’m having trouble with the concept of ‘ego’ as I think of Freudian ego... this type of ego is more like ‘sense of self’?

So in regards to blaming our self would a way to overcome this, is to see the critiquing thoughts and anxious thoughts of not being good enough as food that feeds the ego? Which ultimately prevents someone from being courageous and keeping them as anxious person?

Ego is in-command, not you at a time you make a mistake instead of accepting it and learn from it but your ego made a decision to blamed it to others or you feel shamed in order to protect your self-image can make you unproductive. So right to me, i don't know. I just apply it in my experienced. Am having a second thought about this opinion . What do you think, Julia? In advance, thank you for considering.

Ego fear: feel threat to idea to who we are and who we want others to think we are. Threaten by for example if people leave us out or sb think sth about us that we dont want to think. Maybe we make it mean i am not good enough. Sbs else actions could threaten who we are. The ego is trying to protect us. Pay attention what is a feal threat vs threat to our sense of self. Are those things actually true or just because of made up beliefs?
