I'm not a boat builder, but I'm a fabricator. I'm imagining the stress and flex put on marine vehicles require more than a butt joint, thus scarfing. Even though you have it epoxied fully (not a standalone, nestled into an existing structure) and fiber glassed, the 3" butt joint vs. an 8" 0r 10" scarf... you tell me what would be stronger. Not jinxing you, just backing up WHY everyone is saying "should've scarfed". Keep an eye on these areas during voyages on rough seas. 😉

Love what you’ve done with the place. Really nice job that you’re doing. I wish I lived in that part of the world. I would like to come help you. I love your parents too. I asked your mom if they would consider adopting me. I explained that I had hoped that it would not be too weird for your family that you would have a 71 year old brother. That sounds pretty idiotic. I have never seen a single cruising boat that did that. On a cat, in particular, since it doesn't heel much you can put through hull drains above the waterline.

The prep work on the hulls is going to payoff big-time once the top coats are applied. Should also payoff once splashed in knowing that the boat is in "near new" condition. Good call on sealing up all the thru hull holes like you said earlier the less the better!

By that, I mean, just turn the sander over, start it up, and rub the gum/rubber stick along the abrasive surface.
@ianclarke8821
@ianclarke8821 Жыл бұрын
Yes I agree gum eraser is best, but you can also use a glue stick or piece of pvc pipe, even hose.get the disk spinning fast for best results, and when sanding don’t carry on till those lumps in the grit become hardened and polished, clean regularly with the stick at hand. You’ll get several more lives from one disk. Great work! I’m going to have to take a nap after watching that!

Some of the commercial body shop abrasives are designed to be washable to clear any clogging. The hard epoxy and anti fouling do seem to work well. The weathers been awful for this sort of work. Hopefully it improves... The old guy in NZ mark explains how the Pahi got its name ...hes had to move his 63ft out of the building hes been working in. Meantime In Hawaii the wildfire 🔥 has shown why many first nations peoples chose a semi nomadic way of living when faced with fire, volcanic activity and droughts floods and Tsunami's ... Withdrawing the rudders as far as i understand was a feature of the Pahis ...to help with beaching or repairs at sea. Like your engine mouts you need to be able to raise them to work on them whilst at sea from the deck. 🤔⌚🇬🇧🧙‍♂️⛵⚓
