I was there in 1970 for the Laguna Seca race. It was a fantastic day. Jones and Follmer were great.

As a kid I was a drag race fan until a friend of my dad invited us to a Trans Am at Riverside Raceway in 1969. Drag racing never held as much interest for me after that.

Michael Thompson @ McGee Motorsports stables these incredible Boss 302s. To actually see them in the flesh is AWESOME. I'd never heard of "skinny leaf springs" before...Bud Moore Engr. fabricated really-narrow, like 1-1/4" wide leaf springs with spherical bearings in the eyes instead of bushings ...the leaves don't twist and bind-up in corners - the Watts linkage keeps it all centered - very clever.

I had a Bright Yellow Boss 70' 302, and a poster of the Trans Am Mustangs on my wall....that thing screamed...It was the only Boss in town...years later when I was overseas in the Military, the plan lately was to build a 70' Trans Am replica /street legal-ish... but, that was when 70' Mustang rollers were 800 bucks.. .not the case anymore sadly!

I owned a '65 K code (Hipo) Mustang in the mid/late 90's and was having some restoration work done at Orlando Mustang (which was actually located in Osteen Fl. out in the middle of nowhere). They had a shop full of classic high performance Mustangs and were possibly the top 60's Mustang restoration shop in the country and one of the cars they had was a '69 Trans-Am Mustang...I was walking around it one day giving it a close going over and I noticed the fenders could almost be pushed in by my hand. I mentioned it to the owner and he said yeah the top cars were dipped in acid to eat away some of the metal to make them lighter...great time for American motorsports.

Saw video yesterday covering the switch from Shelby to Moore Mustangs in Trans Am. Could not believe my eyes when the video went on to cover the US factory Mustangs that ended up in Australia. Trans Am is dead in the States, they could not out run today's Aussie Mustangs of today!
Anybody know where I can obtain fiberglass quarter panel and caps for a 70 mustang sportsroof.

They couldn't (and wouldn't) run a shaker on the T/A cars because of the 8x Weber downdraft setup, plus weight....it did however have a NASCAR-esque cowl opening that took cool air from the fresh air vents where the wipers are...

I've been running 289's since I was 14 and still do. 50 years later you can still hear the clear out-rev-edness of The Boss (Cleveland style) heads. These sound better than the vintage Bosses I hear today @ Willow, Buttonwillow & Thunder Hill. Enjoyed Parnelli as guest speaker @ SoCalSAAC mtgs & Peterson/Edelbrock luncheons!
@dougcarpenter76279 ай бұрын
@@Bigsky1991They didn't use the Weber down draft carbs. Used a special plenum of Bud Moore's design, using ram air from left or right headlight area. 1 xlrg. 4bbl. Holly dominator over 1000 cfm! Some earlier years used 2 4bbls with a cross ram manifold!!

Those Mustangs looked good and sounded good. but I wasn't impressed, they weren't spanking the competition. in fact that silver Pontiac was giving them a hell of a run for their money. maybe they were having an off day.
