30 year old Sears/Craftsman Table Saw Restoration

These videos are just me documenting what I do in my life, hope you all enjoy watching.
Looking the table saw up, I found out it was made in the early 90's if not 80's. I stated the table saw was around 15-17 years old because that is when I first saw it in the shop.

You got the whole bottom of the saw to go. I have one and you just did the easy part. Hope you do the rest on camera too.

used the old 113 Craftsmans as job site saws since the early 1960's - they are actually quite capable saws IF you dial them in; shim the arbors so the blade doesn't wiggle; and ( most importantly ) get a real fence for it as for loading and unloading, I did that until I was in my early 70s all by myself - and I was 5' 8" and weighed ( at the heaviest ) 135 pounds: all you have to do is set the wing that the rails doesn't stick past on your tailgate and then flip the saw upside down into the bed ( you can hold on to the legs and ride the saw as it lays down in the bed - be sure that the blade is all the way down ) - to remove, you simply slide the upside down saw onto the tailgate and flip it over and out onto the legs that rumbling and jumping the motor is doing is probably caused by one of 3 things: a pulley which is either bent or has trash in the groove; a misaligned motor; or an old belt which has gotten stiff or a permanent bend due to sitting in the same position for a long time

Use Evaporust to clean the table. No sanding required. Then laminate the table top with Stainless 30Ag or Formica or electroplate with copper andf then with Nickel

Never heard of Evaporust, I'll try it out the next time I find rusty equipment! If I don't have too sand I'll use it.

Cool seeing this. I got the same model 113.298762 when I was 12 or 13 years old. I had it in garage with cardboard boxes on top for about 20 years. No rust somehow but I’m in Minnesota where the winters are very dry air indoors. Even in a garage the moisture is incredibly low. Been using it now and the only real problem is the rip capacity from blade to fence is tiny compared to any 32-36 inch saw. Apparently saws that say they are a width is the max rip fence size. So a 36 inch cuts 36 inches. We are stuck with 24 inches which sucks if you’re making cabinets. If you find a Hegner Multimax V22 we can be extra synchronized. I got that when I was 10. Somehow 12 years old was fine for a table saw haha.

Ill keep my eye out on the marketplace for the V22... For my First good table saw this thing is pretty reliable! haven't had any issues with it so far! definitely beats a circular saw

I have the same saw that I bought new 30+ years ago. Have cut many a piece of wood with it.

Hello, you said you used Rustoleum blastoff. Is this correct? Also you mentioned 400 grit sandpaper at the end. What grit did you use in the orbital sander? I have one of these table saws that I'm trying to restore. Any info would use be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the video.

Hey, to clean the table saw I used these products. (you don't have to buy them but its what I used) amzn.to/3SPjl8V - Mesh 400 Grit Sanding Paper (similar product) amzn.to/3wcU7YV - Blaster Penetrating Catalyst amzn.to/494rR9t - Scotch Brite pad amzn.to/42ACG0Q - acetone amzn.to/49lPbzf - Minwax Paste Finishing Wax This is the process that i used 1) Penetrating Catalyst on the table 30 minutes at a time before using the scotch brite pads. 2) used the acetone to get rid of the Blaster residue, cleaned that off and inspected the table. 3) targeted the areas that still had rust. 4) repeated these steps about 5 times until i felt like a majority of the rust was gone. 5) Once I felt like enough of the Rust was removed, I went with the 400 grit sand paper and did that by hand (you could probably get away with using a sander) 6) Compressor with air blow gun to get any remaining debris off 7) Waxed it

Good job removing rust. Problem is, it is only temporary. A better solution ls to use Evaporust not oil. Evaporust is nontoxic and no scrubbing. Then you get a Nickel plating kit and you can litterly rub (lightly) on the Nickel with a cloth and a 12v battery. Two to Three coats required. It will never rust again. Other options are to laminate the top with Formica or 30Ag stainless steel sheet.

Thanks! Someone else also mentioned Evaporust in the comments, I never heard of it till then. I'll have to try that out in the future with the table saw. I'm really interested in the Nickel plating kit, although the table saw is kinda big, it would be cool to attempt!

Love the irresponsible use of chemicals, like a man. I'm picking up the same one tomorrow, but with the uber cool extensions. The next mission is to fund them, not of the bay at some absurd price. Great video.

waaaaa, I'm super responsible when it comes to chemicals... But this is a great table saw! Haven't had an issue with it since i fixed it up. The cast iron extensions are super useful when ripping up 4x8 sheets.

every time i have hauled a table saw with to motor attached like that it ended up breaking the bracket that holds the motor, looks like you got lucky.

I transported it twice with it on, and now i will always take the motor off. Thanks for the tip!
