In this episode, I am exploring the area around Koidu, Sierra Leone's diamond capital. Everything revolves around diamonds here, and almost all inhabitants are working in the diamond mining or trade. Its very hard work for very little money. By far the majority of the people are using hand tools to dig up the diamonds, except for a few large corporations that use heavy machinery.

I was in a community college back in 1989, and in my history class was a boy from Sierra Leone. His whole village had pooled money to send him to our little college so he could get a degree in teaching to come back and be a teacher in his own village. He was living with a pastor of a local Seventh Day Adventist church, and he and I got put together for a project. I learned so much! Sadly he didn't get to finish his 4 year degree, his parents passed away and he had to go back home to care for his siblings. I often wondered what became of him.

@@CAVALRY19D That cynical tone can be applied to your "story" about the two women who worked for you in Haiti as well. Maybe that was your experience. It was the same in America before there was social media! I live in a city called Port royal, South Carolina. Back in the day, all of the rich people all over the world, had a little 5 to 11 year olds shucking their oysters for them, they were sent. This picture of the little children of Irish heritage no doubt? Definitely looked like it! We’re standing in the freezing cold water in boots of leather all tore up in mud. Their little fingers/hands disfigured from oyster knives. The exceptionally wealthy have done this forever. It’s just after around the late 40s word-of-mouth was traveling too fast for them to keep up with these escapades in America.

The sad truth is that it´s often the western world that has fuel these tragic events..... One man's loss is another man's gain.... What (mostly) the western world has done to Africa is beyond sad. Slaves, diamonds etc..... But things are going in a better direction now. Africa has started to negotiate lots of stuff when it comes to trading etc as a whole continent now instead of as separate small countries. They have realised that Africa must save Africa. The western world that has ripped them of freedom, money, minerals etc for hundreds of years won´t never help Africa. They rather trade with China and other countries that actually help them and pay for stuff. So hopefully things will be better from rather recently.....

This adventure in Sierra Leone has just reminded me of a book I once read called 'A Long Way Gone' by a former child soldier Ishmael Beah who found himself forced into the thick of that bloody civil war. Ooh reading that book makes you shed lots of tears 😭😭

Fascinating history with regard to the blood diamond trade and all the atrocities involved during that turbulent period. I hope you are not hindered by the ever looming rain. Those tracks look like they could become impassable should there be a heavy downpour! Stay safe and ride safe!🤗

What an amazing episode Noraly! I started watching you for the motorcycle trekking you were doing but have fallen in love with your channel because of the human side you bring to all of your episodes. While you don’t stay in one place for long at all, you ALWAYS manage to connect with the people, even just random strangers along the side of the road. You truly live IN this world and not just travel through it. Stay safe and I look forward to many more miles with with you.

One of the Itchy Boots episodes to sharpen the social conscience. 🤗 Like when you visited Pako in the sliver mine and the gold mine in Nicaragua and… …and the drone shots show the beautiful patch of earth that was soaked in human blood not too long ago. Earth didn't care. Humans have to do the caring themselves. Let's do it, right? Like everyone here, like, now!!1! 🤩 Great episode again, loved it! 🤗😍 …and I don't think I've ever seen you wear your hair this long. Me likey! ☺

Not every episode is a happy one. However, I do admire the way you bring History into perspective. Your drone seems like an eye over the Land that continues to be scarred. All that green lush and the sound of Birds and Insects in your pause... Very poetic, Noraly.

It was a very cool (not literally😂) ride today and the history of the diamond trade and mining is unreal. I had heard about the blood wars but not as much detail as you provided. Such rich country to provide so little to the workers. I enjoyed seeing your talks at ABR Festival and I hope you had a great birthday!

Super Lucky (Tree) and Super Happy (Food) all in one video. Awesome! I was blown away by this video. Left me with tears of joy in my eyes. The educational content is so much appreciated. Noraly you just have a special way with teaching that makes me hang on every word. Many things that interest you and that you comment on along your way is same as I would do. Like stopping, listening to jungle sounds and commenting how amazing it is. So glad to see Alaska is still going. I recently picked up my 23 300 Rally. Such an impressive machine in every way. Because of you, I had high expectations and everyone of those has been met and exceeded. Same with Revit apparel. Its awesome. You literally are changing my life in so many ways. Peace ❤❤❤

I watched the video with Noraly’s appearance at the adventurer rider rally. On the subject of recording her video setup, I was glad that Noraly was silent on the technology. It is her adventure content that I cherish. I was quit to make the determination that she rode alone and somehow managed to recoded and make use of her drones. What I did not know until this week how difficult it was to have the drone track manually. I knew it could hover and assumed it was on some automatic signal track.

Liebe Noraly. :) Alles Liebe Linda
