Need to do a proper side by side comparison like garand thumb did with .300 black vs 5.56 Except he did something odd, he did the .300blk with a 6 inch barrel and did most of the testing with subs vs a damn 10.3 5.56 77 grain and actually told his audience “oh look gois, 5.56 did better!!!” I was rolling my eyes the entire time

@@trkjivdlopmd true, and I appreciate that he is making content, but in addition to spending thousands of dollars on cameras and an editor to make everything look cinematic, you'd think that maybe one of then could spend 10-20min on Google to do some research on basic ballistics. Highly produced bad testing is still just bad testing. Especially when you have an audience that large, a lot of people take those conclusions as gospel after those videos are published. Then you have to hear incorrect information parroted for years. It's like modern fuddlore getting made in front of our very eyes.

I find that any time I go from lead core bullets to all copper, it ends up taking a good 10 to 20 rds before my accuracy settles down. The barrel gets a good amount of copper fouling and it aids in getting the copper bullets to shoot the best they can out of your host barrel.

Unless I've missed something, it's a little bit concerning that they didn't get the name of the bullet right. It's TAX-TX, not XT. At first, I thought you got it wrong, but nope - their website says TAC-XT ammo, & says that is the bullet. What's a little lysdexia ever hurt anyone? hah These are pretty cool bullets with probably lots of uses - and even at .308 velocities (3000+), were able to expand to .88" and penetrate to over 17". 1 petal did shear off, though...but still.

Man, I wish you would’ve done a testing with a short barrel, but with a 1/5 twist rate. I’m telling you, a fast twist rate is where is at in this cartridge. If you ever do the test again, do it with a short barrel but with a 1/5 twist rate. You will never go back to a longer 300 blk barrel again.

@@BuffRANGE Brother. I was amazed on the ballistic data compared from a 10.5” 300 blk barrel with a 1/8 twist vs that of a 7” 1/5 twist. Yes, the velocity is slower with a shorter barrel, but the faster twist rate makes up for it. There is more damage done to a ballistic gelatin from a short barrel with a 1/5 twist, compared to a longer barrel with a slower twist rate. If I wouldn’t have seen the results myself, I would have never believed that a shorter barrel with a fast twist can cause more damage vs a longer barrel with a slower twist.

@@fl_protection A lot of it depends on the projectile design, and sometimes that "rotational energy" difference between a fast and slow twist is minimal.

@@__Ryan_ probably just don't buy a kit. You'll likely replace every single tool - possiblyrather quickly. Money is a key and how much you have. I bought a Lyman Ideal ~$100 and since I don't load for volume and I go slow, it's plenty fine for me. So I bought a 2nd one. Lee is probably just as good but if memory serves, it the cheap single stage couldn't handle the length of 338 LM. could be wrong. Dylan is probably the best that I know of. If you are doing a ton of 556 & 9mm, you will likely want to have a multi and not a single stage press for very long. Much faster.

Forester coax press, Lyman case trimmer, fx120i scale, Wilson combat case gauge for 223, 9mm. Hornady powder thrower. Loading blocks. Calipers. Powder trickler, good brass tumbler. Flashlight!!!!. If loading for a AR use rem 7.5 or cci 41 primers. My process is first decap all brass with my lee decaping die, wash with dawn dish soap and a pinch of limi shine let dry then run through the tumbler. I use course walnut media from harbor freight it's only 20 bucks for 25 pound case. I add about 3 cap fulls of flitz media polish the first run then add one more every 4 or 5 batches. After cleaned and polished, lube brass with imperial sizing wax size the brass, trim to length, chamfer and deburr. Back into the tumbler to get the lube off and final polish. Once all brass prep is done I'll run batches of 100 at a time. Prime casing then I throw charges into 50 of the casing. I triple check to make sure every one has powder with the flashlight then load the bullets. I crimp my bullets as the last step with a lee factory crimp die. I'll put the 50 in a vacuum bag run the other 50 then seal it up. For 223 I really like 25gr of H335 powder and the 55gr Hornady fmj seated at 2.200. there is a ton of load data on hodgens website so start low and work your way up. For my load development I usually work in .2 grain increments. So say the load data says 23.8-25.3 I'll load 5 at 23.8, 24.0, 24.2, 24.4, 24.6, 24.8,25.0,25.3 find a good node and write it in my book. Keep records of all your load data you come up with for your rifles. Everyone does it differently so find out what works for you and experiment a little and you will have fun. I absolutely love reloading :) one thing to remember do not decap and size at the same time keep your sizing dies clean and just spend the extra 15 bucks on the decaping die. Any scratch you get into your sizing die will be transferred to every piece of brass you run from then on. Just not worth it if you ask me

@nemisous83
@nemisous83 2 ай бұрын
@@MrGible I'd like to see a review of them. However there is only certain level they can bump the pressures. SIG did their hybrid case arguably better because it wasnt just a simple case swap but a fundamental strengthening of the rifle as a whole. The locking lugs are longer front to back to withstand more pressure and the gas port is placed almost at the end of the barrel to control the pressure and velocity the bolt unlocks. If you where to bump the pressure without strengthening the rifle you are just going to get more wear on your rifle with marginal increase in velocity.

@@ShastaBean It is different than the VMAX. I thought it was the same at first. But my upper will not run their red tip Vmax with a silencer reliably but it runs Saber Black Tip just fine. So there is some difference in either the shape/dimensions of the projectile or what they are loading with. Also, I remember reading that the Saber black tip is supposed to give more weight retention and less fragmentation than the VMAX, so I imagine the terminal effects are going to be different as well.
@ShastaBean
@ShastaBean 2 ай бұрын
@@MannElite hmmm...I think it would be surprising if they engineered a different bullet for AAC. But perhaps? I would guess your feeding might be more likely due to what you said about its loading. Tools & Targets did side by side of the 123 gr (SST) for the AK and they had nearly identical terminal effect. When I tested the .308 with 125 SST, it is indistinguishable (for me) from the 110 gr VMAX. Buff said it's slightly thicker copper jacket, but must not matter at that velocity...and the cannelure. If they really have a new/different 110 gr that's different than the VMAX, I'd like to get it as a component. Until then, it's great that you have something that cycles and being from AAC/P$A...save some cash!
