If you have a little extra cash I would recommend the Sl2 over the older t2i and if you are trying to go even cheaper the panasonic G7 (can be as low as $400).

Magic Lantern is great to put on a t2i to get great features. Also lenses have a lot to do with image quality on a camera like that too. The 50mm 1.8 and the 24mm 2.8 are good value lenses that work great with it.

1:31 none of canon DSLRs have in body stabilisation. The R5 & R6 were the first to implement this which came much later than this video

I started with an investment into a t3i to see how I would take to it. I'm glad that I did because it allowed me to find out how much I love photography as well as I was forced to learn to do a lot manually. Just recently purchased a Sony A6300 mirrorless and my shots are coming out insane due to the practice I've gotten shooting with the t3i. Definitely agree with you on getting started right now.
