Dave ,I 'm 64 years old .I filled both of my tags not the biggest but not Bambi's either.I walked in to my clump of rocks and sat and waited like clockwork here the big doe comes I smoked her with my Howa 1500 in 7mmMag.at 642 am just over 100 yards. The next morning I Smacked a Small buck 2x 3 at 30 yards. With my trusty Santa Barbara Mauser 98 Sporterized in 270 Winchester. Both were White Tails.

Well Done! Sounds like a good supply of venison.

Sometimes a fence post is just right or a gate. Unsupported it's spray and pray for me. Another great video.

Unsupported shooting takes allot of practice indeed, but is the most satisfying if the shot is successful. Thanks for watching.

Minute of deer, hog, coyote, squirrel is what one needs in personal performance from the shooting position they choose/get. Their firearm should be precise to help reduce extra error. If the firearm cannot shoot a group smaller than the target minimum from the bench or prone, the hunting position shots will be iffy at best. Unfortunately many ranges only allow shooting from the bench because of berm height and ricochet potential. Finding a public range of 100 yards or more that allows 3 position shooting is becoming harder and harder. For compactness, I am leaning more into single shot break action rifles. One can put a suppressor on it and still be as short as an auto or bolt rifle with similar barrel length, so one has "ear pro" on the firearm.😉 Keep at it Dave.👍👍

That is a great description of the real world. Thanks for watching.

I’ve been saying this for years. Bench shooting is good for setting scopes. Then shoot how you hunt.

Yes, the principles of marksmanship need to be practiced more often. Thanks for watching.

Sounds like we have the exact same regulations in Minnesota. Only problem is they fund so much brush, cattails and other foilage to dissapear into in an instant, it's not a likely shot. To make matters worse, the whole southern half of the state is Shotgun Only zone for firearms deer season. So, very limited range. I think Muzzleloader is state wide, though. I should look into it.

Sounds more like Duck hunting.

@davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009 feels that way. MN is basically a drained swampland.

Dave. Good video and shooting. Free standing is a real challenge for me even from less than 75 yards. Thanks for sharing and take care.

Thanks Bobcat. Yes, Free standing position takes allot of practice indeed. But do-able.

Yes sir, unsupported barrel doesn't bode well for me at 65 years either. A standing shot was easy as a younger man. Now? Nope. Find a rest of some sort or it's someone else's bull/buck. Don't grade hunt anymore either. Tree stand with rifle rest. Never take a shot outside 150 anyway. More likely 100 and in. Too many trees.

Yes Sir, I'm 5 years older than you. I still need more practice. Trying to learn to control the reticle by implementing a figure eight muzzle movement.
