Hey Sipa here in usa I use oven cleaner Easy off , 5 min and everything is gone even build up on exhaust valves got loose, used it on the cylinder head and block and pistons

Talk to Travis Sarno (Facebook) about the ATI damper setup, he might be able to assist. From a FB post: “VAC also sells a harmonic damper, but this is a very different design, with a lot more inertia weight than the VAC unit. Theoretically this one is designed for significantly more HP and RPM, and is more of an interference fit, which is critical to damping the torsional vibrations properly.”

Kiitos erittäin mielenkiintoisista videoista. Näistä pulttien irtoamisista on niin monta surullista tarinaa. Siihen ongelmaan kannattaa kokeilla Nord-Lock -nimellä olevaa prikkaparia. Aikoinaan tuli harrastettua Kartingia ja niissä autoissa ei pultit pysyneet kiinni perinteisillä keinoilla koneiden kiertäessä yli 15000 rpm. Jep, vaan toki niitä pultteja on pikkusen eri määrä tämmösessa 6-koneessa ja se että pultit pysyy kiinni, ei auta siihen että öljypumpun akselit ja muut katkeaa värinästä. Helppoin tapa hoitaa tuo ongelma on ihan siellä ongelman alkulähteillä, eli estää kampuran värinän kunnon dampperilla.

You can configure a couple programmable on/off switches on Megasquirt that can take care of the DISA operation. You can make them load/RPM dependent on a table if you so desire.

True. But the n52 DISA valves are PWM controlled. Which can be controlled in ms3, but the problem is that the duty needs to be 30% or 70%. Not in between values, so don't know if that can be done in ms3. Also the megasquirts are way over priced in todays market, FW development has been stopped and no permission to run the code on custom HW. Speeduino beats ms3 in all those aspects and it being open source, I can whip up my own custom HW and code for the features I need. So megasquirt is out of the equation.

There is also an other way to do 300hp, I've used a M50 block and head, with a 3.0 crank, forged rods, 87mm pistons, 3200cc, 11.3:1 compression, did the dual vanos conversion with M54B30 cams, M50 intake, M62 throttle body, long tube headers and twin 63mm exhaust and I'm running ms43 in an E39.

@@billytremoloband7456 Well there is quite good rule of thumb with the m5x engines. The intake cam duration = the crank hp you can exept from the engine. With pump gas and stock size valves. It can be slightly more if everything else works nicely with the engine setup or way less if you mess up something 😅 those cams will also need bump in the compression ratio even with pump gas to make up the lost dynamic compression ratio. And that is 0.1 to 0.1mm duration. Not 1 to 1 mm.

Siihen laajaan vääntöön vaikuttaa muuten enemmän se DISA, kuin muuttuva venttiilien ajoitus, itellä tämmönen proggis oli e30:ssä MegaSquirtilla, tosin täysin vakiona ja penkissä ajaessa tuli melkoinen hyppy alavääntöön, kun laitettiin DISA:n ohjaus kohdalleen. Termarilla saa ohjattua lämpöjä, mutta se toimii vähän hullusti päin, kun siihen kytkee virrat, siinä oleva vastuselementti lämpenee ja termari aukeaa aiemmin. Omassa käytössä radalla toimi hyvin, mutta en osaa sanoa, miten pitkässä juoksussa, polttaako se jatkuva lämmittäminen sen lämmityselementin. Ilman lämmitystä termari muistaakseni aukeaa vasta jossain 100°C tietämillä. Mulla pitäs vielä olla megalle valmiit kartat ja systeemit, jos kiinnostaa, pistä viestiä.

Yeah I know that maxxecu is really capable and if I would buy aftermarket ecu, it would be maxxecu. But I like to do thing myself as much as possible, so this will probably use DIY ecu. The way that those n52 disa valves are driven is quite interesting and I'm not sure if maxxecu even has feature for that. But for me, it's only few code changes for speeduino FW to be able to drive those.

Not really. I know that even with 300hp, the engine will feel really lazy compared to the turbo engines that I have used to. But this is more like just for my interest project. If I would just want to make my e36 faster, turbo is the easiest way.

As soon as something bare metal comes out of the ultrasonic cleaner you should spray it with wd40 or cover it with oil or it will rust in just a couple of hours, that might be why your main caps are rusted, there's a good chance they were fine before.

That is true. But I did not (yet) ultrasonic clean those. The crank, main caps and bottom of the bores were rusted even before I started washing those.

I thought the hydraulic lifters had problems with draining the oil and started to hold the valves open from 7500rpm up? Are you going to modify them?

Those should be fine up to 8000rpm, so I'm using those if I can find agressive enough cams that work with hydraulic ones.

Täytyy sitten siirtyä niihin lash capeihin kun on ketju ja kone solmussa :D En tiedä onko se lash cappien paikallaan pysymis ongelma ihan urbaania legendaa mutta ajatus "napeista" venttilien päässä tuntuu sekin vähän epävarmalta.

Joo ei se ihan helposti onnistu ja se vaatii enemmän muutoksia koneeseen, mitä moni on valmis tekemään. Ei todellakaan onnistu bolt-on modeilla. Why not intake manifold from N54 engine? I saw one dyno graph with this manifold with M54B30 engine and torque curve was very flat and max torque was about 2.5k rpm.

Torque curve is flat because the N54 has twin turbos. In turbo cars you don't need ram air effects to get more air in the cylinders so the intake probably isn't ideal for the wide torque curve planned for this NA build.

My plan is to do put the guts of a m3 3.2 in and I'd LOVE to get a euro itb set up(I know id need an adapter. But I'm really goin with the m52tu cuz id have the m50(m52) bottom and the m54 top which opens a TON of different intake options...I mean u could put the s54 itb set up on if u wanted to right?

@@TechTokOffical m52tu is basically identical to m54. There is no really differences on the engine side. Electronics etc. differ a bit. You can't bore the m52tu block to accept s52 3.2 guts, because the sleeves are too thin for that. And yeah, I could go with s54 itb's but I won't because I want the engine to have as wide as possible torque curve.

Hyviä koneita noi tuplavanos m52. Mites noi teholukemat noissa vakiona pitää paikkansa ku ainakin ex 528 e39 tuntu todella pirteeltä, vaikee kuvitella että niin painavaa autoa 193heppaa liikuttais niinkin ripeästi. Vai onko ne sit niitä hyvin koulutettuja hevosia ;)

Ei ne ihan pidä paikkaansa. Ne tuottaa kymmenisen heppaa enemmän mitä sinkkuvanos vastaavat. Mikä nyt ei paljoa persiissä tunnu. Mut se tehontunne normiajossa tulee nimenomaan siitä laajasta vääntökäyrästä minkä se tuplavanos ja muuttuvapituuksinen imusarja saa aikaan. Siksi tässäkin projektissa ne pysyy käytössä ja toissijaisena tavoitteena on se laaja vääntöalue.

Viinalla tarvii olla tosi iso puristuspaine tai ahdettu kone että siitä on tehollista hyötyä. Eli käytännössä viritetty moottori. Vakiokoneessa ainut hyöty on että säästää ehkä jotain 2€/100km jos aijaa paljon tasakaasulla 60-100km/h(esim. työmatkat), taajama ajossa kun on paljon kiihdyttelyä niin viinaa kuluu suhteessa enemmän heikomman energiatiheyden takia. Onhan jotkut väittänyt että se vakio suorakutonen vetää paremmin ku on hippibensaa tankissa mut taitaapa olla blaceboa 😃

Ei siitä ihme hyötyä ole. Lähinnä säästöä polttoaine kuluissa. Nykyisillä bensan hinnoilla tosiaan joku 2€/100km on säästöä. Toki öljyn hinta on laahannu jo pitkään ihan pohjamudissa, niin ihmettelen jos vielä pitkäänkin jatkuu noin ja bensan hinta on sit jotain ihan muuta mitä se nyt on ja e85:lla ajo tulee olemaan paljon edullisempaa. Mutta vakio bensakoneessa tehollista hyötyä ei oikeastaan ole. Teoriassa sillä pitäs saada joku 5% lisää vetoja, mutta harvon niin käy. Ehkä alavääntö ennemmin kasvaa sen verran. Moottori pitää tehdä naku-rajoitteiseksi bensalla että e85:sta alkaa oikeasti saamaan tehollista hyötyä.

Really hoping someone can answer this question as I'm almost ready to look for an engine for the e36 to turbo, would it be better to go single or twin Vanos 2.8? Id be planning to put an m52b28 or m50b25 manifold on it to keep my cruise control and cable throttle so standalone ecu is on the table, and is it better to use a decompression plate and 2 head gaskets or not?

Well the dual vanos engines are overall better engines than older one. The m50 iron block is only needed if you aim closer to 4-digit hp numbers. And do not use de-compress plate or two headgaskets, if you want to have properly working engine. Amp44 offers affordable low compression turbo pistons, so high price isn't excuse anymore.

@pazi88 Wondering if it's possible to create high compression motor using B30 pistons, B28 crank and 140mm rods? Would it work with some schrick cams or pistons start making contact with valves? I did the maths and should be around 11.5 to 11.8 :1already had tub28 block skimmed and ready for b30 forged pistons, but if it doesn't work don't want to break the parts for no reason, wondering if you had any input? Thanks

Yeah. M54b30 is normally 1000-2000€ here. M52tu engines can be had for few hundred €. Don't know what makes the m54b30 so special compared to m52b28tu, because those are almost identical engines 🙄

Samaa mietin itekkin. Mullahan on se pwm vanos nyt e30:n m52:ssa ja siinä notkahtelee öljynpaine kun vanos liikkuu. Pikku googletuksen jälkeen, ei mene bolt-on mut minusta näyttäis ihan mahdolliselta pikku modauksella.

You could make that power with an engine that weighs a lot less. Kinda ruins an e30 for what it is which is perfect weight distribution.

@@pazi88 any 4 cyclinder would probably weigh less and can easily achieve 300hp. If u want it strictly bmw u could use a 4 cyclinder from a mini. But id just use a 1.8t which weighs 282ibs and can make 300hp no problem. The m52 weighs like 350ibs

Joo onhan ne putket ontot, mut pitää perusympyrää ottaa varmaan 10mm pienemmäksi, että siitä tulis ongelmaa.

@@wesulius Onkai noita hiottu aika paljonkin ongelmitta. Mutta kuiteskin varmaan joudun pistämään kättä taskuun ja laittamaan aftermarket nokat tähän. Oon nyt tässä urakalla miettiny eri vaihtoehtoja ja miten tuon toteuttaa ja tämä nyt vaatii ihan minimissään 270 asteiset nokat että tehotavoitteeseen on mitään mahdollisuutta päästä. Moisten lukemien saaminen hiotuilla nokilla vaatii nostinpukkien ja nostinten osalta melkoisia kikkailuja, että varmaan tosiaan ostan jotkut shrick/cat cams 270 asteiset nokat, joiden luvataan jämymmillä jousilla pelaavan normi hydrauli nostinten kanssa.

Those are super expensive here. About 1500-2000€ for m54b30. When m52b28/25 is few hundred €. That's the reason. And then it wouldn't be 300hp m52 😅

Vapari on aina vaikeemman kautta, lähes minkä vaan bensakoneen tehot saa tuplattua ahtamalla helposti ja ihan avaamattoman moottorin niinkin että kestää kauemmin ku yhen kesän kuminpoltot. Näissä vapari touhuissa sitten tarvitaan alavireinen jenkki kasi jos meinaa tuplata vakiotehot ilman ahdinta😃 Esim. 5.0 gt mustang, siihen voi tilata viri kannet suoraan pakettina, sitten pakosatsit ja bensapuolen päivitystä niin irtoo 400hp ja 400nm ja hintaa tulee about 3000€ kaikkineen. Vakio tehot oli jotain 215hp ja noin 300nm.

Hand port the heads!! A 3.0 can make 260whp with ported heads and manifold and headers This is not bullshit this is what faster proms did

Well 260crank maybe if you are lucky. 260whp is bullshit. With 15% drivetrain loss that would be 299hp from crank. So 70hp more with those mods 🙄

@@pazi88 kzbin.info/www/bejne/nKLHe3ufe66afJY Watch with and without filter at 20:00 it is actually 255whp They put a bigger throttle body in a later episode and they say but dyno it was noticebly faster. If you want to hear them talk about what they have done watch from the middle of the video After they upgrade the throttle body i believe it reached 255whp all the time not only with airfilter off. So you have agressive cams and 15:1 on top of that. You will get 300whp easy

They say they have zhp cams and the m50 manifold...thats maybe 20hp i would guess, the headwork alone cant strech it the reat of the way imho. Maybe there are other mods or a calibration issue on the dyno...
