About time we have another iron sights shooter! Congrats!

Great. I knew one day one of palma shooters will challenge this. and now here we are!. bravo!
@Stannowik8 жыл бұрын
palma is about competition, beating the conditions,fellow shooters, and ones self. we shoot 308. 155 grain max weight. we concern ourselves with elevation consistancy and the co-ordination of sight picture and trigger release. with breathing control. all this in 45 seconds off the elbows no supports. its shooting in the truest sense. there are no shortcuts. training and dedication are the way to perfection. try it.

Years ago they had these open sights competitions all the time, at the Creedmoor Range in Long Island, New York. It started when the Shooters of Ireland challenged the Shooters of America to a match back in 1874.

Is that an open sight or an aperture sight? I thought an open sight was an open notch.
@LongRangeShootersofUtah7 жыл бұрын
If you want to get technical it's an aperture I suppose. All the rifle specs are in the video description. The sight has no magnification.

@LongRangeShootersofUtah8 жыл бұрын
+allabasterkt 155 gr Berger. In Palma you must shoot a .308 with 155 gr bullet

exactly....I think the 6.5 is cool but for decades the 308win was and is still it. I have yet nor do I think I will be jumping on the 6.5 wagon. I use a 280AI ...better bc in the .284 cal bullets.

Can you get anyone who can do this sort of thing without all the bits of stuff I.e. No strange coat, tubes, levels, stocks - just a stock rifle and no supports, pads etc? What's the limit on range?
@LongRangeShootersofUtah8 жыл бұрын
I think you're way way way over simplifying things but I can oblige...here you go... kzbin.info/www/bejne/qpKZiYagpLl2qM0

Cool. Thanks. I am not especially knowledgeable as I live in UK so no guns of note :) I was belittling the amazing shooting in te video but wondered what limits are 'old school'. Will have a look at link now . Thanks

That should be 'not belittle the video I watched' - oops

Carlos Hathcock shot a NVA Officer at almost 800 yards after crawling through the jungle for 3 days. Shot a human torso (heart) with one shot from a cold barrel. Stuff don't make you a shooter, shooting with skill makes you a shooter.
@LongRangeShootersofUtah8 жыл бұрын
Ptown Rat He was amazing and this is no comparison by any mean but Carlos also had an optic and I'm certain he was shooting from some kind of rest rather than off hand. Carlos also competed in the same shooting disciplines as this gentlemen.
@DPIDDY698 жыл бұрын
very impressive no doubt but when I see open sights listed in the title I don't think of a top level professional with thousands of dollars of gear. I think of an old guy sipping a beer with a DPMS .308 and irons.

Great shooting! Now is it really fair to call a full F-Class rig 'open sights sling only'? That's like calling a 20mm bolt gun a 'rifle'...
@LongRangeShootersofUtah8 жыл бұрын
+Gryyphyn I think you may have missed something...It's a palma rifle, no optics just a front and rear peep sight. He has a spotting scope next to him for reading wind, perhaps you mistook that for being mounted on the rifle. F-class is with scopes and from a rest or bipod and generally you will see f-class shooting high performance rounds like the straight 284, 6.5 x 284, 7mm's, 6mm BRX etc not .308. Palma even specifies that a 155 gr bullet must be use so I'm not sure where you're getting the F-class portion from.
@gryyphyn86398 жыл бұрын
From honest lack of familiarity. Palma and F-Class are two long range styles I've not had significant interest in so my knowledge of the two different rifle builds is minimal. I thought that one of the characteristics of F-Class was the slung jacket that provides support and stability assistance. I maintain, however, that calling that rig 'sling and open sights' is an understatement. :)
@ScooterLee-ei1ep3 жыл бұрын
@@gryyphyn8639 so basically what you are saying is you don’t know what you are talking about but saying. You clearly have NO idea about long range shooting. Shooting jackets used to be the norm. But when the bipod and optics started getting better in the 90’s it feel out of favor. It’s clear you are a just a no one hater who can’t shoot past 50 yards.
@gryyphyn86393 жыл бұрын
@@ScooterLee-ei1ep Does shooting 223 at 750y count? Don't be obnoxious, it's just not called for. I never said I didn't understand the jackets or even slinging up. What I said was related to a specific comment in the video iirc.
