I am VERY impressed that the 308 was able to hang with the 6.5 Creedmoor out to over 1,000 yards! I suspect the high hit percentages had more to do with the Indian than the Bow.

169gr SMK has BCs like a 107gr 6mm, so .527 G1. It’s relatively light for a .308 since 175gr has been king of LR with .308 for many years, after a century of 173gr FMJBT in the .30-06 and 7.62x51 Sniper systems. The 6.5mm 144gr Berger Hybrid has a very high BC of .655 G1, but you can’t get it going very fast from a 6.5CM. The problem with both of them is not being able to self-spot. This is why I do this same thing but with 6.5 Grendel, even with a 12” barrel. 123gr ELD-M, 123gr SMK, and 123gr Scenar do about 2350-2400fps from the 12” Grendel. Fort Scott 123gr TUI does about 2320fps, BC is .571. Grendel converts the powder more efficiently than any of the above cartridges, recoil is half of them or less, so your sight picture just stays on and it’s more like a game of watching your own round connect. Very satisfying compared to .308 and 6.5CM. If he was using one in this video, you would see the reticle barely move and the round connect.

Another point for 308 in my debate in which to go with. The fact that you can go with high end rounds for long range accuracy or grab some 147 ball and go to town at closer ranges. Not to mention it's been a NATO round since NATO was a thing so the availability is more than adequate and cheaper due to the scale of production and tons of f data. A chrome lined 16" 308 could fill a lot of roles, especially with proper ammo selection.

@@bitscorpion4687 it is not a outdated cartridge it is the most popular caliber in the world for a reason when it comes to hunting because it does have more energy and more velocity than the 6.5 Creedmoor , if you shoot the 6.5 Creedmoor in what a 308 common grain weight is the 6.5 will not be shooting that fast at all and 308 has more momentum than a 6.5 creedmoor and if you shoot the 308 in the same grain weight that the 6.5 shoots it goes faster . The G1 BC on that 169gr SMK is .527, so it should be .263 G7. I always love the sound of .308 hitting steel, but I don’t love losing my sight picture in the process where I can’t self-spot. @@MountainsMulletsMerica It's built on a PSA PA-10 (their version of the AR-10) from a couple of years ago. Right now, I have a 4-16X scope on it. I've upgraded the BCG, the stock, and the pistol grip. The trigger is already high-end, two-stage, so I'm not messing with that. I have upgraded some of the receiver components to make it ambidextrous, since I'm right-handed and my wife is left-handed. I've got a bipod on there, but it's just a low-cost Magpul and I will be upgrading that. It works, but there's better available. I plan to put a 20" Proof Research barrel on it, because overboad is fun. That'll happen next year, I think. And I have one of the Huxwrx flow-through suppressor that I share back and forth between it and my custom 300 Blackout SBR. The 20" barrel + suppressor will be unwieldy in terms of weight and center-of-balance, so I might do two different uppers, one 16" and one 20". See which I like better after some use. But that's expensive and not very efficient, so I'm not sure about that plan. I liked how the Impact range finder worked in your video, so I'm thinking of adding one of those. But I'm not sure, because I can't have any electronics on it if I plan to hunt with it (state law where I live). Might QD that so it can go back and forth on that point. Or put it on the upper I don't end up hunting with if I go that route. I handload, so I'll definitely give the 169 gn SMK a go. I've got some Barnes lead-free in that same weight range, that I think will be great for hunting.

As usual, some of the best shooting content on the internet. Something I have found: I have better performance shooting lighter bullets with the 6.5mm large frame AR platform due to magazine constraints. I pretty much settled on Berger 130 grain Hybrids I use Magpul P mags which are limited to about 2.820" case overall length, my heavier 6.5 bullets didn't perform as well loaded that short, while the 130 Bergers and 136 Lapua Scenars did really well loaded shorter than this, it's also nice to get some velocity back. I'm getting 2,770 FPS with the Berger 130's

VIDEO IDEA (: If you ever get insanely bored; please consider doing a "best pistol red dot zero distance" video just like the 36 yard zero rifle videos but obviously applied to the particular zero distances you think apply well to 9mm handguns. Thanks a ton. Love the channel.

Love your content as always. One thing I was thinking in terms of the gas guns 100 yard accuracy…. In my case I bought a cheap thing from Brownells called an Accu-wedge. It’s rubber and takes all of the play out of the upper and lower receivers. When I started putting those in my gas guns the groups tightened up instantly.
@MountainsMulletsMericaАй бұрын
Oh man all of my ARs run accu wedges…. My opinion they are a must to tighten up groups

Just found your channel. Been thinking of putting together a AR10 6.5 creedmoor, because it makes since to me already owning 6.5 creed and i don’t own any 308 stuff. I mean makes less loading for myself. Keep the different calibers to a minimum for the most part. I like seeing these videos and makes me happy that you still lean towards 6.5. I like 3OH’hate just have more 6.5 creed at my household. Although it wouldn’t be bad to have a 308 upper also.

I like the wall, one thing I would like as an option would be to have screws the same shade color as the slats. Make it look more sleek and consistent and uniform.

Alright so 6arc ar15, from what I understand, was designed to replace the 308 ar10. Have you already done that comparison? If not, would love to see that one.

I was really excited to see the 308 using the 169 gr SMK. I have been trying to work up a load with that bullet and 4895 powder. Have not shot it over 500 yards yet but it seems to shoot well there. Running a Smith & Wesson M&P 10 with the 18” barrel.

Great video! You should do a video on how you do load development.

Love your content and everything about this. I would love to see a load development video. The only thing that triggers me is 1.5 moa. My OCD would never allow that. My OCD drives me to punch a lot of holes in paper.
@MountainsMulletsMericaАй бұрын
I’ve chased tiny groups long enough that I’m kind of burnt out on it… 1.5 moa 10 round groups are plenty accurate for the type of shooting I do with these rifles. I’d rather hammer steel at distance than spend time at the 100 yard line chasing small accuracy improvements….. also I’m sure I can even shoot a large frame ar better than 1.5 moa haha

Nice, just as im about to build my lightweight 16.5" 308 bolt hunting rig, though I'll never take hunting shots at that distance. It's nice to see.

A request. Can you compare the 169 Sierra projectile to the 168 Nosler Custom Competition at some point? That's what I'm loading, and the projectiles look to be very similar in weight and profile.

Have you tried any boutique metal tipped rebated tail ELR/ULD projectiles? I see some .308/175gr advertised G1@ .707. Total gamechanger.

Good vid dude. Any factory load 308s you would recommend for those distances? Do you still rock the MR762? If so, would you do a comparison vid in those conditions? Looking forward to the next.

Thank you for the great content. You have inspired me to load up a few 169smk's to run through my Robinson XCR-M at 1000yds to see if I can stretch out the range a bit. Would you be willing to share your Load Data (GR/Type, OAL, etc)?

To me big influenceing factors are available ammo/components on local store shelves and the shelves of my friends, and the terminal affects on live targets, but neither is a bad choice.

Superb video, good comparison and a hell a lot of work . Congrats. Please go with both in 24” barrel length, and please compare Apple to Apple with their full potential. Thats where it all comes out. I have both cal. in bolt gun, and i love them both, Superb calibers, just be clear on what You want and what do they deliver on what cost. In my experiences wind is the key success factor in elr to 264 caliber ( BC) , which is totally insignificant in hunting short range like 350-meters. On Shoulder both are OK. Nice content anyway. Greetings from EU!!!

Could you please do a video on how to shoot a heavy gas gun prone? Could you cover grip, body position, head position behind optic, breathing and other things you would find important technique wise? Also, is there a difference in technique when shoot bolt vs gas action? Thank you!
