In the manga, when Tsunade gets back up to fight Kabuto (after he thinks he's incapacitated her), he actually theorizes that his chakra scalpel didn't pierce far enough because of her large breasts. For censorship reasons, in the anime, this scene is replaced entirely with Kabuto attributing her ability to get back up to her will power or fighting prowess.

Would make a lot more sense. Naruto as a whole was a LOT darker early on in the series. I’d be extremely curious to know about the backstory of Kishimoto and his life during the time he wrote Naruto. There are some things that are planned and set up that I feel he did a 180 on later on like… It’s obvious Naruto’s dad was always supposed to be the 4th Hokage, but was he planned to be a good guy? Naruto’s treatment after his death makes NO SENSE considering how beloved he was in the later parts of the series. Another thing is that I definitely don’t think Itachi was ALWAYS planned to be a tragic hero. All of his set up in the beginning really doesn’t lead to his later stuff making sense. He puts Sasuke and Kakashi into comas that they only wake up from because of Tsunade. Like if what Itachi says later on IS true, then he wouldn’t have been like, “and I’ll place my brother into a coma he will never wake up from for no reason.” Right? Like I’m not crazy for thinking that there MAYBE were some plot points that were changed over time? LOL Especially considering how Shippuden’s entire story is focused on how actually everybody’s families were great and they loved them. Like how Gaara’s mom didn’t hate him and it was the one tailed beast in him that gives him his sand defense, it was his mom’s love this whole time! Like nah, man that was not the written plan from day 1.

That arc was so cool but I have sad feelings looking back at it in retrospect. When that arc was airing on toonami me, my dad and my brother were waiting all week in anticipation for what would happen next. Then when it was over there were like 200 episodes of (bad) filler or something and the show moved to another network with Shippuden. By the time the show apparently got good again we had long moved on.

I keep on saying this again and again: censorship GREATLY dimishes quality in works of fiction regarding war. Blood, gore and sizeable or gaping wounds are tremendously helpful to properly reflect the danger of death, which transmits dramatism like nothing else. If you colour that wound, conceal it or just erase it the whole thing can feel bland, uninteresting or simply fake, non-believable and forgettable. This is even more obvious in comicbooks where one vignette can be crucial for the whole chapter.

I think I was pretty traumatized as a kid when I was just searching random stuff on KZbin. Found a anime gore compilation and I couldn’t stop watching, anime in the 80s/90s was apparently very violent. But at the same time it’s how I came across Gantz, Berserk, and Genocyber (which still has my fav anime soundtrack). So everything else in comparison I saw in the Naruto manga was pretty tame tbh. And actually I read the manga first as my middle school library had most the volumes till Shippuden. One parent complained, but a bunch of students telling em to shut up managed to save our manga. The same couldn’t be said for the “I Love Boobies” wrist bands everyone at the time was wearing though. All said it was to support breast cancer awareness but staff were not having it.
