Күн бұрын

Yesterday, Dr. Phil spoke with Karen and Jim who claim they are desperate to remove their violent and mooching 31-year-old son, Kyle, from their home. Kyle gave reason after reason why he felt his parents were at fault for his financial situation. Today, Dr. Phil enlists the help of the star of the popular TV show, Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer, to offer advice to Kyle and his parents. Taffer has written a new book, “Don’t ******** Yourself, Crush The Excuses That Are Holding You Back”, and shares with Kyle and his parents the secrets to overcoming the excuses that keep people from being successful. Will Kyle listen to Dr. Phil and Jon Taffer? Will he finally move out of his parents’ house? (2216318RR)

His parents are infantilizing him...its a form of mental/emotional abuse..they've ruined any opportunity hes had to get away from them in order to remain in control.... it's straight selfishness....people are quick to judge him but dont understand how big of an impact parents can have on their children even well into adulthood...i hope he leaves them soon...

I am definitely what one would call a late bloomer. I lived at home until I was 39. However, I pulled my weight around the house. I lived upstairs and my parents lived downstairs. I kept my part of the house clean, did my own laundry, washed their cars, handled the yard work, took out all the trash and paid for my own groceries and bills. The only thing that my parents provided was dinner. I would eat meals with them that they prepared. Honestly, I never really wanted to move out but ultimately felt so much shame and embarrassment from our culture that I chose to move out. My parents and I got along great. My first night in my new house, I knew there was no turning back. I’ve been on my own now for 17 years and the loneliness is brutal at times. I still visit them frequently but I 100% support myself. I’ve done well financially and I give back to them periodically. I bring them a meal at least once per week. Buying my own place got society’s disapproval off of my back but it really didn’t fix anything in me. I’m okay with having my own house but I do hate coming home to an empty home every single day. I’ve never been in a relationship and don’t see that changing anytime soon. I don’t know why but I never really matured emotionally beyond about age 12 or 13. I never wanted age appropriate things like my siblings and peers did. I still feel like a kid inside. I know I’m not though and I accept my adult responsibilities but emotionally I do feel like I’m 13. It’s an odd dynamic because in my profession, I have a lot of responsibility and many people are dependent on me to perform my job. I always come through. It’s just in my personal life where I’m underdeveloped.

As I understand it mom decided to change the kitchen around because that's the way she likes it, she then went on and moved the livingroom around as well. His sister told mom it's not her house and she's just a guest, mom moved the livingroom around again and said something like it's staying this way because she likes it like that. There won't be anyone asking you to please turn the music down (although my kids were pretty good about stuff like that), and you won't have to deny yourself an extra share of the leftovers so I can take them for my lunch." @@christinepage181 This may have nothing to do with intelligence or education. I know a PhD - a smart guy who is a college professor but earns 100K, which is far too little to afford a home (mortgage or rent) if you don't have savings. At least that's how it is in Canada these days. I suspect U.S. is not much better. If you earn less than 250K anually, then you probably fit that category, given the inflation and the cost of living generally speaking.

Okay so this guy should move out right now and I mean get some type of place to live any type of place and get out. We don't need to be stupid and have him sleeping in a car or worse a carboard box. Next thing this isn't phycology this is a sham, the dude is clearly the product of infantilizing from his parents. Yes he is an adult but we are all aware of Stockholm Syndrome, it's a similar thing he is conditioned. My point is simply this the parents aren't blame free and this show won't say it because it takes an extra step to understand this point and the media sucks it only caters to the easiest out and done. Subtly is important and this man better get out of that house and move on with his life and his parents should consider the damage they've done, it would have been normal and kinder to give him a week to get out when he was 21 than this sh*t. This is genuinely a type of abuse. Not all abuse is aware it's abuse, or equal this is a very low level of abuse, but it's abuse all the same.

I highly suspect these are scripted and the guests are paid actors. That being said, when it comes to these situations, I learned the hard way that if you live in someone's place you'll need to put up with their sh!t more often than not. That's why I left my parents' place at 19 and lived on my own ever since. It's not healthy on any side to live with parents.

After 18, you are an adult. Make your own way. Your parents should not be required to give you a bedroom, feed you, do your laundry, etc. Grow up. Move out. Your failure to accept adulthood requires mental help intervention. Come once in a while to visit but call first.
