We in the Netherlands use wooden poles rammed next to one another into the embankments and in between we attache mats made of branches. This over time helps to prevent erosion of embankments from meandering rivers, and shrubbery and grass gets a hold to further secure the embankments by their root systems. We've been doing this well before the Romans came sniffing our lands and got their assess handed to them by us, and we are still using these or similar techniques today. Seeing it has done us well,...for over more than 3 millenia's, you might want to try the technique on your precarious looking embankments on your land.

We tout all this miraculous work as we watch these people come in and basically clear cut the land, then act as if that's somehow good for the land. Permaculture? Doesn't even know to chip the wood, just burned it all.

Thin the drywall compound with 8oz of water. Use a hand masher or a 1/2 drill and paddle to mix it; your wrists will appreciate the smooth consistency and ease of use. Make sure you change from the dark green lid of mud to the light green, blue, or purple lid of mud for the 2nd and 3rd coats. The dark green mud has more adhesive in it and is not fun to sand smooth.

The moment coming for you..when you get the drywall up in a new structure you built yourself, and you sit on a floor in one of the rooms..is the magical time for me, when you can no longer see from corner to corner, and the structure takes shape from the plans you've laid. It is even a bit more eerie than when you finish drying in a place for the first time, from a frame to a building, then the drywall makes it a place where you can see the dreams coming to fruition..soon to be filled with life and living. Hope you took that moment, and there will always be more to do, a list that never ends, but see it as the challenge it is..a journey if you will, and not work that can get you down.

If u think about heat and your able to dehumidify and monitor inside with a lil thing called a dehumidifier. It’s all good. Modern day construction is overkill. What do think they did a hundred years ago? Homes breath n flow. It’s not hard to keep it under control. I’m in utter amazement that this guy built a house from from the literal ground up every freaking board n nail n screw all on his own. This thing will last for generations. How it should be. Love the vids. Just a thought, hang the top drywall first, then butt the next piece to the bottom of the first piece, then measure and cut the bottom. Having two joints in the middle will look odd if not sealed and sanded to perfection. Just a thought.
@N8TheSnake5 жыл бұрын
Nobody wants to get down their hands and knees to mud the joints though.
@terryq99665 жыл бұрын
@@N8TheSnake couple of "problems" with the way Heath is attacking the situation. First is that you now have two seams in the middle of the wall and at least one, if not both, are going to have a tapered edge meeting a butt edge. This joint takes much longer to get a good finish. A typical butt joint has to get feathered out about a foot on each side and based on that that, those two joints are gonna turn into one giant 3-4 foot joint - lots of work and finesse involved here. The second issue is at the baseboard. With a tapered edge on the floor, he's either going to have to fill in the taper with mud or use a shim of some sort or your baseboard moulding will not be sitting correctly on floor...they will be "tilted" in at the bottom. Drywall installers always start walls at ceiling and work to floor as that eyes always look up first and tend to not see defects (if any) the lower on the wall you look. I'm not even going to get into the choice of muds he's using, that's a whole other can of worms. Can be done strictly using all-purpose, but takes so much longer. Great looking house 👍 though!!

There is nothing wrong wth the way you hung your drywall, and it will turn out great. For future reference if you would have put the piece on the bottom instead of the middle it would do 2 things for you, first it would make it easier to hide the joint, since you would only have beveled edges to finish, no square edges. Since the cut square edge would be at the bottom of the wall. Also when you install trim, with the bevel at the bottom you will have to shim or space the bottom of the trim out now, since it will be tilted back the amount of the bevel. Which is no big deal but could have maybe been avoided. I think you have lower ceilings downstairs so all of this might be moot at this point. Just for future reference.
