I have been through “contractors” in the past 2 years with helping my husband and I build our farmhouse. Now we have spent the last couple months just doing it ourselves. We just got done doing hvac, did light electrical work, some plumbing. Moving onto drywall this week. It takes air longer and is hard work with a full time job, but we did it, so we are proud of our work and we took our time so we know we did it right.

Great to see the drywall is so close to being done. Personally, I wouldn't trust that contractor to do the job, he doesn't sound professional at all and it looks like he will do a poor job. Having said that, you are a professional yourself and I am sure you will do what's best. When building a house, the last few jobs is always what takes the longest, but soon enough, you will be all done.

Watching you work, seeing how much you care about what you are doing and the dedication you put into it, I find both amazing and strangely satisfying. How lovely to see someone building their own home with their own hands, time and effort. Thank you for the videos! I have worked in an office all my life, and find the whole taping and texturing process of drywall kind of fascinating. It looks like something I would actually like to do! I wish I lived closer, so I could come help you and learn how to do it! And I wish anybody who watches these videos that lives near you or has the time to drive up, would offer their help, as well. Wouldn't it be neat to have the online community you've been building, in addition to your house, all these years, come together to help finish it and celebrate?!

Wow, that was amazing, I’ve never seen anything like it. In Australia, we finish drywall (we call it gyrock or plasterboard) by using a strip of special mesh -like tape along all joins then plastering the joins with a trowel and a stiffer mix than you use, then sanding them smooth. We never plater the whole surface, rather, we sand everything level. It doesn’t take long. Thank you for your amazing channel, I’m really enjoying your progress and I’ve learned a lot.
@chumleye11124 жыл бұрын
I live in Canada and we do it the same as you but not necessarily with the mesh, we use the paper. I suspect they mostly do the same in the US, however it seems Heath wants to do it his way (unfortunately it takes much, much longer).

the Less the contractors workers you have up there the less chance of getting robbed later. maybe the contractor is doing you a favor. knock out one wall in the living room perhaps 2.. the ceiling will take a day.. so that is 4 or 5 days and its done. you also have kids that need to learn how to do this.. they can do the low areas.. with the banjo its pull paste and spread flat. if they make a mistake.. its easily fixed.. and you have taught them a new trade too. even the girls can do it. its just like frosting cake. it will be a family doing the family room.
@ekneinniuk5 жыл бұрын
Lol. Even girls can do it because it’s like frosting cakes? Obviously girls can do it! It’s just how you raise them. Girls can do anything, not only things that are similair to frosting cakes. I get that you mean it well though, just thought of it as funny.

Getting the pantry and bathroom done will be a real plus. Not as many trips to the 'settlement' for groceries will save time. A freezer does sound like a good idea. A new top of the line frig/freezer even more so. You can cook under a tarp on the porch while the great room is being worked on. During the summer I put my Coleman stove on my picnic table. Keeps the house cooler.

I would highly highly suggest going to see a good chiropractor or at-least a masseuse/physical therapist once a month given all the work you do. As some other's have said, soreness is one thing but numbness can be serious and it can get worse. That could be a sign of nerve-damage and it's best you get it checked out as soon as possible. Plus, chiropracty or massages feel amazing and you deserve to be pampered a bit. Trust me that getting a massage will help a lot with staying limber and working effectively while also helping prevent long-term nerve and muscle damage. Just like cleaning and maintaining your tools, maintaining your body is important too and your muscles keep you moving; take the time to do some maintenance on those.

For the electric step that lowers when you open the drivers door, check around with scrapyards and ask if any of them have the one that isn't a full step rail but just big enough for your feet to fit on it so you and your wife can easily two step into the cab. It's roughly no more than 8 to 10 inches wide but makes it so much easier to get in and out of the cab.

angela nadeau that can a big if. If he knows someone who knows a good, then he should go to a chiropractor. If he has no experience with one and know no one who does, then he needs to go to the gp because a bad chiropractor is more likely to cause serious injury or worse.
@scottbeaulieu135 жыл бұрын
angela nadeau probably has a pinched nerve.. or worse like me torn ligaments in the shoulder and excessive inflammation pinching the nerve... which a chiropractor will not fix. He needs to see a doctor who can get him an MRI before anyone goes tugging and pulling and pushing on his joints or back/neck. Getting good imagery to see what’s going on first should be the plan and once he knows what’s causing the numbness then begin a treatment to alleviate it, don’t just tel people to go to a chiropractor for an adjustment.
