Glad to find another admirer of the old CollectA Xenoceratops colour scheme! My love for it hasn't faded over time since I first bought it.

Indeed! In fact I am contemplating on saving up, just to get one of these HLGs repainted in that CollectA Xenoceratops scheme, but of course, in an elevated way! Hopefully next yea! 😁

its refreshing to have a model reviewer that covers the detail and science behind the animal!! ive spent all my cash on the pnso mamenchi…keep meaning to pick up the haolongood edmontia and xenoceratops!

Thank you very much! I love learning about dinosaurs, and as I get older and understand more, I get more and more out of reading the papers. Please note I do make mistakes sometimes, so check the description boxes where I usually update with amendments and errata. The PNSO models are pricey, and HLG are really improving their standards by leaps and bounds. Hopefully some of their offerings will suit your preference, and you will save more money from some HLG offerings though. Although I would guess that no one will be saving money for their upcoming Argentinosaurus... yikes!!

I thoroughly enjoy your reviews and respect your takes on dinosaur models of all kinds. Over the years, your channel has been very influential in how I select the models I purchase, and my collection has grown both immensely, but also intentionally. The way you back up your opinions with a foundation in paleo-anatomy makes your thoughts and opinions more credible and weighted. Thank you for continuing to put forth such excellence in material!

I have the Eofauna encyclopedias for theropods and sauropods. Do you have, or know of, a similar volume that contains the same information for orinthiscians? I enjoy making similar scale comparisons like you and would love a good tome (or three!) to assist me in putting other (or ALL) the models in my collection to scale! Any recommendations?
@thomaswagner1135Ай бұрын
@@JoshuaMorris-rq9tw The third volume of that series covering Ornithischia is supposed to be published eventually. Some months ago a tentative title page had been circulating, so the Eofauna group is definitely working on it. But I have not seen any planned release date so far.

@JoshuaMorris-rq9tw Wow thank your kind words! I am glad that you find my videos useful. I have always had a love for anatomy which has continued to this day, and I try my best to share that love with people. I have to say that I do make mistakes sometimes, so please read my description boxes as I always update errors or amendments there. Now as to the books, EoFauna will be having one on Ornithischians soon. I would caveat that by saying that while they put in a lot of work, there are some measurements that have been challenged by various people. I love that they give through-centra measurements, which I believe are the best way to present a consistent size. I hope they'll do the same for the ornithischians as well. Another resource that's often used is Gregory S Paul's The Princeton Field Guide to Dinosaurs. He uses also the through vertebra length, though there are areas of controversy as well. For example he sticks to his belief that there were three species of T Rex.

@DinosDragonsАй бұрын
Thank you! But credit goes to HLG and PNSO for designing some of those most beautiful dinosaurs in recent years. To have the kind of bauplan I used to see on skeletals from favourite artists like Scott Hartman, Gunnar Bivens and Franoys fleshed out in a model is a real dream.

I'm sorry for being late to watch this wonderful review. It's better late than never. When I was a kid, I thought Xenoceratops got its name because of its horn shape. They look like the letter 'X'. 🤣😂 This is the best Xenoceratops figure on the market, and what an amazing figure this is. I thought that gray figure was the one I loved. But now, after watching your video, I think the brown version looks more subtle and beautiful. So one day I will buy that. As always, thank you so much, my dear sir. You are a gem to our collectors community. Please be safe, and I wish you all the best. 🖤

I never thought of it, but that is a creative insight! 😁👍👍 This is certainly the best one I know of, mass produced, and I was surprised that some people did not like it. I wonder if it might be because of a bit of saturation from HLG, and of course, the rather inconsistent decision to show scales of different sizes, relative to overall bulk. I hope that you will get one one day. Hopefully, this will be quite affordable for you, compared to some of the other bigger ones. I am thinking of saving up money so that I can get this repainted to the CollectA colours!

I was actually completely surprised by the lack of enthusiasm for this fellow to be honest! Quite a few people have expressed lack of interest, disappointment, and even unhappiness with this one. Perhaps HLG suffers from its own sterling lineup? 🤔

@@DinosDragonsI support the commentator above. I also want a scientific review of sinoceratops. I've always wondered how long his collar is, like pnso's or haolonggoo's. And also how much the horns on the collar fall asleep. These 2 models fall asleep in different ways.

Hello again, thank you for your video, excellent figure. Even though this brand has offered us a good variety of ceratopsids, the Pachyrhinosaurus is my favorite. It has charisma and life, similar to the PNSO ankylosaurus.

Yes I wasn't actually fond of it, but many viewers have expressed that they love it!
@thomaswagner1135Ай бұрын
Nice and balanced review as always. I just do not understand why Haolonggood does not stop with the (white) squiggly lines. This has been criticized so many times in a number of reviews of their figures. Then the horizontal striping pattern reminds more a so called cryptic pattern which animals have that live in a habitat where they hide from predators between vegetation. The lifestyle and habitat of ceratopsians appears to be more consistent with a disruptive pattern, like more vertical stripes and similar. This serves the need to obscure their shape from predators so that they are not recognized from the distance by the predators. This is more typical for animals that live in more open habitats.
@Jesus-rl9phАй бұрын
Yes... Those fuc**** squiggly lines...
@DinosDragonsАй бұрын
@thomaswagner1135 You make an excellent point. While certain patterns look cool, if we were to be strictly scientific about it, they have to exist in a realistic context. Without clarifying the habitat of an imaginary colour and pattern, a model can lose that extra ineffable something that makes it feel real or not. I've always been fond of the tapir, and the Baird baby's striping is one I wouldn't mind seeing on an appropriate dinosaur! but when it's done like stark squiggles, it's puzzling. I almost suspect we are being trolled or something.

I’ll be expecting a haolonggood triceratops review soon
@DinosDragonsАй бұрын
Haha, this is a late reply, but I dropped it a week ago!
I’ll probably spring for the brown. It has a more naturalistic look. The squiggles are still getting old but, in this case, it seems to work, okay. HLG’s eye treatments are never quite elevated to anything above cartoony. My usual approach is to repaint using the modern herbivore eye with the “goat” slit that provides herbivores a wider field of vision rather than a round pupil using more subdued browns, blacks with minimal whit-ish for sclerae if warranted. I do like the form of this more than some past ceratopsian renderings. The hind quarters are muscled, but not to the point of “baby got back” baggy pants look of their earlier horned dinosaurs. Maybe I’m wrong and the were Jean stretching powerhouses in the rear quarters. They just always looked a little…”butt heavy”.
@DinosDragonsАй бұрын
I found your interest in the goal slit eyes very interesting! I have been asked a few times why I don't seem to like the HLG Pachyrhinosaurus. I realise that while I did like the idea at first, the goat slit eyes just rubbed my sense of aesthetics the wrong way. However having had reason to take it out and have it on my desk for a few days, I do understand it is a great model, and I'm even starting to rethink my discomfort with these eyes!

@DinosDragons29 күн бұрын

@dericplummer9272 I just can't understand the reasoning for it. It's not just here, but on the Chinese forums, that many of us are asking about it, but they still have an ideé fixe on it, apparently.

@@DinosDragons I have been in facebook chat with HLG, and once I mentioned simple things as the Edmontosaurus was underscaled they ignored me. Also a post of them with few replies on FB I told them about this issue about the lazy wave stripes, ignored me again. It may be a little coincidence tho, but I doubt it, it rather leads towards how they are as a company. All it would take would be: "Thanks for your input!".
