Everly Brothers are a master class in harmony. Great way to help kids learn to harmonize - I loved singing along with them when I was young!

They credit the original version of The Shoop Shoop Song (It's in His Kiss) to Mary Clayton. They misspelled her name, it should be Merry Clayton who is most famous for her vocals on the Rolling Stones song Gimme Shelter recorded in 1969.

That's why the copyright of songs is there for the writer of the song. The writer will collect royalties for years to come no matter the artist that makes it a hit.
@teeduck2 жыл бұрын
Yeah. Most original singers didn’t write the song either. Writers get checks but no one knows them

The reason The Marcy Brothers version of “Achy Breaky Heart” didn’t become a hit was because their version was never released as a single, this was on their second and last album they recorded. It was released by Atlantic Records in July of 1991. Only two singles were released off that album but only one of them charted and that was the first single called “She Can” it reached No. 71 on the country charts. The second single “Why Not Tonight” didn’t make it on the charts. About the time their second single was released, the brothers exited the label and they disbanded.

I am one of your greatest fans, but I have to set you straight on one thing! You said the original artists didn't get the love they deserved. But those of us who lived the history you are now exploring did, indeed, give them love if got aired enough. It's great that your generation is reincarnating these great songs -- you can't help it if you were born too late to hear the original artists. Thank you for putting them in the spotlight, if only in brief clips. Your reactions always make me either very happy or more informed, or both.[BTW, I was NOT around in 1927, but did help invent Rock and Roll in the 50s!]

Moral of the story, Elvis and Whitney built careers on covering songs. And what was here is just barely covering the surface.

One cover that became a big(ger) hit that the original artist actually said something along the lines of "It's her song now" and was very genuine and gracious about it was "I will always love you" (Dolly Parton original, Whitney Houston cover) But other than that, I imagine it would be frustrating for the original artist, especially if not a lot of time has passed- with a lot of these songs, not just the one you pointed out, only a year had passed between the releases.

Dolly Parton said that when her song "I'll Always Love You" made a hit in 1974, it took her to the bank; but when Whitney Houston sang it, she bought the bank!
